Just finished a delicious soy glazed sirloin steak with Bombay chips, which is back on the menu after a long absence. The steak was cooked to perfection (rare, naturally!) and the soy glaze, along with pickled salad, added a depth of flavour, crunch and freshness thay was just perfect! Although the pub was busy they found us a table, service was exceptional and the staff are very friendly and helpful. Get there while the spring menu is on - you'll regret missing this!

One of the best locally owned pubs in the area. The beer garden is perfect for a warm day, and it's very warm and cozy inside. The food is amazing, with huge portions... I always leave the crown feeling stuffed!!I also wish to confirm (as a mixed race individual) I have never felt more welcomed in a local pub than I do here!

I have been a customer here for years and the quality of the food, service, everything is outstanding. I am also a member of Reform UK and attended a meeting here in one of the function rooms recently. There are many customers of the C&CS who share political views of one kind or another. Some agree with mine, others do not. The fact that this has been used by another reviewer (Jeff McAdam) to undermine the reputation of the C&CS (AND REFORM UK) is absolutely disgusting. Reform UK are a legitimate and perfectly legal political party and have been totally misrepresented in Jeff McAdam's review. His inflammatory remarks about making this a venue unattractive "to local minority groups" are unsubstantiated and without basis. He also refers to this group somehow "facilitating an attack on our neighbours." Jeff McAdam is libelling a group of individuals and a political party here. What attack? On whom? If this is the case the matter should be reported to police but it is an outright lie. His attempt to 'cancel' this groups meeting venue is an attack against the freedom of lawful assembly, freedom of speech and freedom of thought. Please can google warn Jeff McAdam about being the purveyor of hate speech, and if he continues to make public comments that are misinformation and an attack on other people's freedoms, he may be sued by the Free Speech Union on my behalf. Having a different view to someone is perfectly fine - do not try to cancel others or bring into disrepute a business just because you have a different view though. The C&CS did not even know what the group were, let alone encouraged or facilitated the group meeting - none of which would have been any kind of bad act if they had. Trying to use a venue's good name in order to exert influence on them NOT to allow certain groups to meet there is an attack on democracy and it is Jeff McAdam who should be ashamed of himself.

An otherwise lovely bar let down by encouraging and facilitating right-wing meetings to take place within it's premises. It says it has a welcoming atmosphere but it seems that welcome does not extend to local minority groups based on the fact they hold right-wing meetings within the venue.I have been a customer for years, but shame on you for facilitating an attack on our neighbours.

Unfortunately the management seems to have lost customer focus. The policy regarding the log fire appears to be to save money by not operating the fire for the comfort of loyal customers but to save money by keeping the bar cold and uncomfortable.Very disappointing after several years of regular Friday afternoon drinking.Maybe won’t make a difference but we’ll take our custom elsewhere. It was interesting to read your response to my review. My complaint was nothing to do with customer’s putting logs on the fire as this ceased months ago after a notice was isssued by yourselves. To operate a log burner correctly it needs air to burn efficiently but what has been happening recently is your staff (and certain customers) have been shutting off the air supply resulting in a miserable fire and most certainly not a cosy bar. There is a really cold wind blows through the bar when the passage door is opened as the back door on to the car park is alway wide open. It is a real shame as we have generally enjoyed our Friday afternoons in the Crown.RegardsBryan.
