Great food, chill atmosphere, good service, but £3.50 for 1 can of soft drink. But an overall good place, would 100% recommend.

Elly Rewcastle

Hello, I've never been one for reviews so if this seems longwinded or I go on a tangent I apologise however I feel I need to express my deep discomfort I received at Salt Darlington. My initial problem was before I arrived, the traffic on Grange Road exceeded my expectations with me nearly getting knocked over by an arrogant man thinking the world revolves around him and his merry bunch.Eventually I arrived at the Salt Darlington with me being told to stand at the side making myself look and feel like an ornament. I was also confused with the booking scenario as my parter had to handle it all due to me not understanding why such an outdated form of booking was being usedAfter this I was eventually seated where a nuisance of a child was seated to the right of me and my peers who made the next hour of my life least not what I would wish on my worst enemy. Their constant winging and whining really agitated me as of my ability to easily get headaches as I’m sure all of ur staff must be ☺️.As a member of my group I felt I pulled the short straw as the chicken I received did not equate to the £18 price tag. I felt it was overcooked as there were black spots on the batter of the chicken and in an attempt to hide this I believe they overcompensated with the garlic sauce in order to hide it. I personally felt an insult to myself with this type of food however with the judgy looks I already received from the ( overly abundant young female )staff I was too scared to request for a more acceptable dish. Even more shocking was the price of a single can of Coca-Cola which costed £3.50 ?

Made the journey down from North Shields for my partners birthday as a surprise as he lives street food and it was well worth the trip. Food was perfect and we can’t wait to return to sample more of the menu as there was so much choice. Best meal out in a very very long time… Edit as this was posted before our dessert arrived, our waitress was lovely and friendly and went to order our dessert, there was a bit of a wait the same as the mains but no issue with waiting as food was so so good and they were busy. However another woman who I assume was the floor manager came over to let us know (approx 25mins after we ordered dessert and it was yet to arrive) that our table was needed for the next party arriving in 10 minutes. She was very abrupt and honestly don’t know if she knew how to smile she was so rude. Explained we were waiting for our desserts to which her reply was “that’s not ideal I will go and chase them”. She then came back and told a table two down from us that arrived after us and had just finished their food they would need to leave soon to accommodate the new people arriving. All in all our meal was lovely and our waitress was so kind and attentive but the night was let down by the other service team members lack of hospitality. This won’t put us off returning though as everything else was fab. Just hope she isn’t working next time we go!
