The wait at the bar for drinks however is unacceptable, waiting for nearly 10 minutes is not really acceptable. Only one girl serving and she was under pressure but she really performed well. From walking through the door to leaving the staff couldn't have done anything better. Great welcome as we arrived, drinks order taken quickly and food the same. At no point did we feel rushed to eat. Food was fab, good size portions, nicely presented and flavoursome. Had veggie samosa and a veg biryani. Cost wise about average but worth it. Being somewhat of a newbie to Darlington took the recommendation from my friend who I was out with and I wasn't disappointed. Will definitely be back again in future.

20 Grange Rd, DarlingtonMade the journey down from North Shields for my partners birthday as a surprise as he lives street food and it was well worth the trip. Food was perfect and we can’t wait to return to sample more of the menu as there was so much choice. Best meal out in a very very long time… Edit as this was posted before our dessert arrived, our waitress was lovely and friendly and went to order our dessert, there was a bit of a wait the same as the mains but no issue with waiting as food was so so good and they were busy. However another woman who I assume was the floor manager came over to let us know (approx 25mins after we ordered dessert and it was yet to arrive) that our table was needed for the next party arriving in 10 minutes. She was very abrupt and honestly don’t know if she knew how to smile she was so rude. Explained we were waiting for our desserts to which her reply was “that’s not ideal I will go and chase them”. She then came back and told a table two down from us that arrived after us and had just finished their food they would need to leave soon to accommodate the new people arriving. All in all our meal was lovely and our waitress was so kind and attentive but the night was let down by the other service team members lack of hospitality. This won’t put us off returning though as everything else was fab. Just hope she isn’t working next time we go!

Yarm Rd, Middleton St George, DarlingtonAfter having the most amazing Sunday lunch a few weeks ago we decided to call in again today on the off chance the we could get a table for a late lunch.The staff were warm and welcoming and the food was outstanding.My wife had the Japanese chicken noodles with prawn crackers and I had the fillet steak with peppercorn sauce.We both said it was the best meal we have ever had and continued to rave about it all the way home.We will definitely return.Well done ❤️.

Much of the rest of the menu could be made gluten free on request. A refreshing change to being made to feel like a nuisance at some restaurants.

The food is exceptional, especially the chicken burgers, we play bingo on a Friday afternoon which has a good atmosphere and then on a Friday teatime they have children's entertainment on which is usually a cartoon character (likes of spiderman and Disney characters. My grandkids love it there on a Friday after school. I would recommend this place top class good old British pub.

Delighted to say this chippy changed hands again and is once more a great value fish and chip shop with huge portions of tasty fresh fish, chips and many more dishes I've yet to try can now highly recommend it again.Updated April 2018 - what used to be my favourite chippy has now changed hands - for the worse. No more fresh crisp food, what is served now is limp, greasy and unpalatable, I've tried it 3 times since it changed owners and each time most of the food went in the bin as it was inedible what a shame they couldn't keep up the previous great standards.Please see above update for upgraded rating 2023.

We popped in for a coffee and something to eat, and the first thing that hits you as you walk in is just how cosy it feels. The decor is really well done and being winter there was a looped video of a crackling fire with sound effects to compliment, which really added to the warm festive feel. The staff, who are apparently all volunteers, are super nice and friendly. I ordered a latte, which was very good, and being married to an Italian I don't accept any old rubbish! To eat I ordered a bacon roll, which was super crispy and delicious. Apparently the meat is sourced from a local farm to maintain a high quality. Menus presented..choice of four starters,four mains and four deserts.Bit limited for choice but still very acceptable given three courses priced at only £ 10 ! Young students took the orders and served the meals….got to say they were all proficient and very friendly although a few nerves could only be expected. Onto the food …Prawn cocktails ( tasty ) Haddock, beef dripping chips, mashed minted peas,and tartare sauce ( best we’ve had anywhere ! ) ..sticky toffee pudding ( ok ) Excellent large glass of blush rose wine £ 4.50. What amazing value. Restaurant was very quiet probably due to the stormy weather but I got the distinct impression that despite the excellent operational side the restaurant would ,without doubt, increase its business exponentially if only the college invested in a programme of marketing.Simple things like a large sign on the busy main road advertising the restaurant.Once visited word of mouth would fill the place. Going back on Thursday for the “Burns” Lunch. Well done to all the managerial staff and the friendly nervous students. Brill

The coffee is decent, they also have plenty of ice lollies etc for sunny days.Kid-friendliness: It's not a place for kids to be running around etc, but the staff have always been very friendly with my daughter.Wheelchair accessibility: There is possibly a rear entrance with a ramp, but the main entrance is just steps.

We were shown to our table. We both got The pizza. There were lush and huge and chips were delicious. Great night out thank you.Vegetarian options: A thew vegetarian option on the menu

Sortie - Charcuterie & Bar
4 Houndgate, DarlingtonThis place in an alley in the city center of Darlington is a jewel! We ordered a bottle of wine and then ordered the 3 meat/3 cheese tray with extra walnuts. To find out the chutney is made by the owner's mother and the owner herself pickles all the vegetables was huge plus! The choices of local meats and cheese rounded out a delightful evening. We WILL be back!

John Fowler Way, DarlingtonFood ordered and arrived within 15 minutes which was very good. The wait at the bar for drinks however is unacceptable, waiting for nearly 10 minutes is not really acceptable. Only one girl serving and she was under pressure but she really performed well. Really need more bar staff.

113 Parkgate, DarlingtonGreat food with great atmosphere! Quite different than usual Turkish restaurants that do just kebab. They serve real turkish cuisine and it is very delicious. We ordered mititi for our daughter and it was super delicious as well.

2-3 Mechanics' Yard, DarlingtonI've been visiting this pub for at least 20 years... Is that right? It can't be?!They have a fantastic selection of beers and some seriously drinkable cider. It was a quiet Monday evening when I was in with some old friends, the Barman was witty and played along with our shenanigans. A good time was had by all.

19 Clark's Yard, DarlingtonWhat an absolute gem of a curry house Cafe Spice is. Great online booking system made it easy to get a table sorted. From walking through the door to leaving the staff couldn't have done anything better. Great welcome as we arrived, drinks order taken quickly and food the same. At no point did we feel rushed to eat. Food was fab, good size portions, nicely presented and flavoursome. Had veggie samosa and a veg biryani. Cost wise about average but worth it. Being somewhat of a newbie to Darlington took the recommendation from my friend who I was out with and I wasn't disappointed. Will definitely be back again in future.

20 Grange Rd, DarlingtonMade the journey down from North Shields for my partners birthday as a surprise as he lives street food and it was well worth the trip. Food was perfect and we can’t wait to return to sample more of the menu as there was so much choice. Best meal out in a very very long time… Edit as this was posted before our dessert arrived, our waitress was lovely and friendly and went to order our dessert, there was a bit of a wait the same as the mains but no issue with waiting as food was so so good and they were busy. However another woman who I assume was the floor manager came over to let us know (approx 25mins after we ordered dessert and it was yet to arrive) that our table was needed for the next party arriving in 10 minutes. She was very abrupt and honestly don’t know if she knew how to smile she was so rude. Explained we were waiting for our desserts to which her reply was “that’s not ideal I will go and chase them”. She then came back and told a table two down from us that arrived after us and had just finished their food they would need to leave soon to accommodate the new people arriving. All in all our meal was lovely and our waitress was so kind and attentive but the night was let down by the other service team members lack of hospitality. This won’t put us off returning though as everything else was fab. Just hope she isn’t working next time we go!

Yarm Rd, Middleton St George, DarlingtonAfter having the most amazing Sunday lunch a few weeks ago we decided to call in again today on the off chance the we could get a table for a late lunch.The staff were warm and welcoming and the food was outstanding.My wife had the Japanese chicken noodles with prawn crackers and I had the fillet steak with peppercorn sauce.We both said it was the best meal we have ever had and continued to rave about it all the way home.We will definitely return.Well done ❤️.

I had a wonderful experience here - the beer selection was top-notch, the food was delicious, and the ambiance was so relaxing. The staff were friendly and attentive, adding to the overall great experience. I highly recommend Hideaway Pizza for a great day or night out. Can't wait to go back, even though I'm here 4 times a week for the £5 lunch deal!

27 Blackwellgate, DarlingtonHad a table booked and arrived early, were still happy to seat us.Restaurant wasn't to busy, but they only had 1 person serving and taking orders.It took about 10 minutes for them to take our food order as the server was taking all table orders at the same time!They have a "food comes when ready" system, but our side of chilli chips came at the same time as the table next to us who had there mains!Mains didn't come until another 10 minutes and felt asif chips were simply given to us without thought. Who eats the side order of chips on there own?!?We then received an item which we hadn't ordered to the table and I asked for my chips to be remade as they were cold by the time the food had got to us.Overall the food was as always, very very good, but the service and thoughtfulness was lack luster.No blame on the server who was trying to do his best but simply left to do it on his own and the chips coming early was a cop out for kitchen convenice to send chips to another table at the same time.All in all, woul go again.

The peas were proper and the fish......Well I have to say it was not a budget piece, it was chunky and not hidden under a multitude of batter and the taste was perfect.A thoroughly enjoyed chippy meal. ?

The food and service were top notch though, at very reasonable prices. This place definitely deserves more patrons.Dietary restrictions: Fantastic range of gluten free options. Much of the rest of the menu could be made gluten free on request. A refreshing change to being made to feel like a nuisance at some restaurants.
