This was my 1st visit to Durham & this small Cafe Nero with around 20 seating tables located just inside by the entrance door & to the rear of the building, where you'll also find the only available toilet which caters for everyone ! There's no available outdoor seating space either .I did have to wait in small queue for about 5mins to be served and i found the girl staff member on duty who served me to be very pleasant when taking my drinks order of 2 regular Gingerbread Lattes to sit inside but i did have to remind her to stamp my loyalty drink card ! Cash or Card payments are accepted.Even though there was good variety choice of cakes & pastries etc, the sandwiches/paninis shelves were virtually empty of stock .I was disappointed to find my drink to be very thin which infact I'd class as watery & not the best tasting either. Really wasn't the usual Cafe Nero quality drinks experience here on this occasion .

The staff and food excellent, cannot fault them, busy too and they worked like Trojan’s . But come on Cafe Nero heirearchy, this place needs some TLC, it’s beginning to show its age and your are letting it fall behind, some building work required to refurbish and update it. Us locals will be back, but you might not get occasional visitors make 2nd & 3rd visits……but we will be back with our dog , she loved being fussed & got a lot of smiles, as Golden Retrievers do.

I went there today at 10am (22nd). The young girl has good customer service but the other one is a bit rude. Please be careful of the way to talk to customers.

I went to Caffe Nero as I have been to many of these chains before. I have had two instances with the same staff member who has been rude and very confrontational. One instance my order was prepared wrong so I kindly asked for it to be redone, (I ordered a hot drink and was served it as an iced one, my friend was with me and confirmed with me after that i asked for hot). I was very nervous about asking as I am autistic and struggle with social situations. Upon asking for a new drink I was met with the staff member being quite argumentative and disagreeing with me, inisting I had ordered cold. I was lucky my friend was there as she confirmed that I had ordered a hot drink to the barista. I got my drink in the end but while waiting for it to be served I was very uncomfortable as the atmosphere from staff seemed very annoyed. Secondly, on one occasion I went and me and my friend both wanted to order in takeaway cups but asked for sit in. We have to ask for it this way as our lunch time is very limited on most days so we can only sit in the cafe for around 5 minutes before we have to return to our classes, I also always as for a takeaway cup as I have a lot of sensory issues in relation to cups and this is the easiest way for me to get takeaway drinks. While waiting for our drinks to be served two of the baristas began gossiping and talking about how they didn't like customers who ask for such things, it just felt very rude and as if they were blaming us for 'getting rid of their jobs' as quoted from one of the baristas, and they were gossiping about customers infront of our faces. At the end of the day they are still making the coffee, so no jobs are lost. Overall products are same old same old, if you have been to any Caffe Nero before then all items are just the same. I haven't been back since the second incident as the anxiety and confrontational staff are preventing me from doing so...

The staff are very helpful and explain in detail the different coffee types, it is a small premises and seating can be a problem on occasions especially at the weekend.I think the company should create extra seating upstairs, this would also generate more business as I've seen people walk out because no seats available. The area upstairs is currently no entry as its used by the staff at the moment but would make a valuable asset to the business as a whole.

I didn’t receive the gentleman’s name, but I want to say thank you so much for being so kind! Your service made my day and I appreciated your kindness! Sorry I did not get your name, but my visit was on the 10/10/23 and I visited roughly 6pm. Could somebody from the team please give him my thank you and I hope he gets appreciation for his kindness :)

What a friendly branch of this coffee chain. I really enjoyed my visit because of the genuine warm welcome by the staff and overall good atmosphere. Coffee was up to ususal Nero standrds and the cinnamon swirl really fresh. I look forward to returning here.

Lovely coffee shop. Coffee is nice as are the cakes. Only issue when we went was that the toilet was out of action, but is was just a small walk to the tavern in market square.

Coffee was a bit watery despite being made with oat milk. Toastie was pretty good, though. The loo was out of order... not good!

We hadn't been for a while so was amazed to find the place in a terrible state. Flooring dirty and totally worn out. Decor really sad and neglected. Coffee was very poor and my wife's tea was so bad she left it and we walked out. Won't be back.
