Tucked away from the main road in the City Centre and with its own parking, this hotel was a perfect choice for me. Furniture in the room a little dated, but spotlessly clean and the most comfortable bed I've ever slept in. Great breakfast selection too.

Worst place to stay. Do not stay here. This is one of the most worn out hotel. Floor boards are making noise the toilets water didn’t stop flowing. You can hear noises from people walking outside in the hallway and the lifts very loudly and very hard to sleep. Room floor boards were very noisy to the point i had to order a fan to get the noise level in my room higher. Stay away and save your sleep and nightRooms: Rubbish

Very comfortable room, great parking and right in the center of Durham.Safety: Lots of well lit areas, being a University city plenty of people milling around on a night up to midnight at least.Walkability: Situated at the bottom of Old Elvert bridge everything is within a short walk. Cathedral, Castle, pubs and eating places

Didn't sleep a wink in room 240, despite being a heavy sleeper, due to constant humming and groaning coming from the ancient heating/cooling system (despite my controls being set to off). Water pipes also noisy. Rooms in the 240s likely all suffer from this, as there is (see photo) an ancient 'Calorifier Room' (very old term for a boiler/furnace) there. You can hear (all night) an ancient and/or poorly maintained pump struggling. Other hints to poor maintenance are present - bathroom floor tiles had maybe half of the grouting missing (see photo). Combination of old wooden windows and metal secondary glazing doesn't block road noise.Rest of hotel, and check-in staff, were pleasant, but can't make up for not sleeping. Breakfast staff lean over you to take away plates - that's needs training.Wardrobe has no virtually no space for long items as the narrow gap not hemmed in by drawers was clogged by ironing board, robes and - another sign that the cooling system cannot cope - a huge plastic fan.Rooms: Avoid rooms in the 240s if you want to get sleep.

Superbly located but rather tired hotel. The furniture and general feel of the room was dated, the TV kept loosing its image and heating was with an electric heater. Customer service was spot on, though.Safety: I had asked for a first floor room as I'm a female travelling alone. They put me on the ground floor, with a door/window to the car park. May be a problem with their bookimg system not picking up the request? Just make sure you double check.

Amazing service and food! I can only comment on conference rooms as I didn't use hotel rooms.

We had a three day break here and enjoyed it. City centre location only minutes from historic attractions and restaurants. Hotel staff and facilities very good. Hotel car park may seem expensive but the alternatives are more so.Rooms: Good size and facilities.Nearby activities: Historic city centre only minutes walk away.Food & drinks: Good breakfasts.

- Great location - 3 min walk to city centre.- Family room was spacious and clean.- Gym on-site, no pool...- Cooler 'fridge' didn't work on arrival, HVAC also didn't work. Room was unbearable hot. Was kindly given a fan by staff...fan also didnt work.
Really nice hotel, clean cozy room and very friendly staff in a beautiful part of the city.Walkability: The hotel is just two minutes from a host of restaurants.

Lovely location but a tired dated hotel.Checked in early evening on a very cold (minus 4c) day to find the heating in our room off and the window open. I genuinely despair that hotels can think this is a way to welcome guests. The room was a good size but the decor was very dated and the paintwork tatty in places. There was no heating at all in the bathroom not even a heated towel rail.Breakfast was awful, the cheapest buffet they could put together. When I was growing up in Durham the County was regarded as a special hotel. We only stayed here as the lovely hotel on the same street we usually stay at was full. Wouldn’t stay here again.

Received a warm and friendly welcome from the reception staff , room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. The location of the hotel was ideal for a visit to Durham centre. Will stay here again with no hesitation if visiting Durham again.
