Cheap breakfast cooked here and their capuccino is the best nationwide and comes with free refills. There is top WiFi and plugs to charge your phone. Ales are well kept.

Called in as waiting for the bus and great service and lovely polite staff despite the challenges they obviously face in a city centre pub

Bog standard Weatherspoons pub with all of our favourite drinks and meal. Didn’t need a big meal so had an American 3oz burger to settle my stomach. By the time you subtract the cost of a ‘free’ drink the value is amazing. Only downside is that the mobile phone signal in Durham is crap and so had to go to the bar to order instead of using the app.

Once upon a time it was a great place to have a few beers after work, that's why i'll give 2 stars rather than one. Although management comes into question in particular - too power absorbed, and what little they have, i am glad to hear that new owners will be coming soon, they need to cut out some dead wood though; if they want a fiery start to business ;)

The Water House on North Road is Durham's Version of the Cantina Bar from Star Wars. The clientele ranges from Old dears utilising the all you can drink tea and coffee before 2pm to the hardened local battering the door down on the dot of opening time, then to students and then to folk like myself who like that it's a cheap pub with some plug sockets.Staff are always welcoming and helpful. Fridays and Saturdays, as well as Bank Holidays they are joined by Door Staff with the extra influx of punters.Foods decent. Typical Spoons faire. One downside is the regulars often use the disabled toilet and many of them seem to not have any sence of aim which was not ideal when I had suffered a broken leg and ended up just using the stairs to go to the much cleaner ladies. Of course this is a Spoons with the traditional several flights of stairs to get to said area.Overal it is an experience and sadly one that looks like it might not be around as a Spoons soon.Highly recommended.

Stopped in for a breakfast whilst on a short break. Easy walk to town, cathedral, castle etc.Good breakfast selection and decent price. Usual Spoons selection of drinks.Food was a little slow coming but waitress was very apologetic. Good quality food and well cooked.Friendly staff.

Staff seemed OK but the clientele leave a lot to be desired, lot of down at outs and workmen using the pub at lunchtime. Mixed grill we both had was what could be describe as, you get what you pay for, however in our case that fell short of the mark, some of it was uneatable and it was difficult to tell what type of meat it was. Not surprised to hear that the place is up for sale.

Nice place for a drink. Table service was quick and polite despite it being really busy.Good prices too.

We went in for a drink and a bite to eat and the bar staff lady with short blonde hair was very rude unfriendly. We were waiting to be served at the bar and she just gave us a dirty look - ignored us and served someone else. When our food came over to the table we smiled and said thank you and we got a frosty dirty look in return. Its really hard to be friendly and smile- think shes in wrong job . Appeared to just be giving everybody dirty looks. We would not come back in a hurry sadly as felt very unwelcome with this experience . The young lad at bar was lovely and friendly.. shout out to him .

Relaxing haunt we twice enjoyed for lunch. Grabbed a booth down the steps away from the open area. A traditional pub decor with cheaply priced ale. Didn't have to wait too long for the food. Smaller options for lunch.

Good range of beers, food is great - burgers and pizzas recommended

As like all wetherspoons. Great value. Excellent beer and food. But no longer have bottles of heniz bbq sauce or Helmans mayonnaise. Now to get bbq sauce you have to pay an extra 60 pence. I believe you can still get this from other wetherspoons

Lovely bar staff nice couple of pints. Lots of different cliental. I saw 2 guys go in to the toilet with wash bags and then straight out the door so they were just using the facilities

If you can brave the less well off, and mentally challanged minds you will be rewarded by some amusing banter and drinks at a 3rd of the price of any other establishment, heaven help us no wonder JD Wetherspoon lost money last year.

Getting a bit tired and could do with a decorate and new chair material but good selection of drinks at great prices. A local favourite amongst the over 30's but still a lot of younger folks. We like it
