You know what you are getting at English's. Proper service, proper table linen, super wine list, the best oysters, traditional menu of expertly cooked fish. Expensive - Yes, Does it deliver - Absolutely. We shared the bread & mackerel pate, oysters, 700gm dover sole, mashed potato & spinach - can not stop raving about it.

Fabulous seafood. Staff were helpful in explaining the menu. Food was beautifully prepared. Ample portions. Some of the best mussels we have ever eaten - and we’ve eaten quite a few.

We have eaten at English's many times over the years but this week they demonstrated that they still deliver simply outstanding dining. Our family party of four were greeted warmly and courteously at the door, our coats taken and, without prompting, shown to the window table we had requested. Their service belongs to a bygone era - respectful, professional, discreet and efficient. We ordered a bottle of house white (well-chilled Chardonnay) which was perfect with the day's special of lobster, crab and tagleatteli topped with crispt baby squid. Two of us had the special and two chose the terrific hot sharing seafood platter which they only just managed to finish. Both dishes were oustanding in presentation, flavour and sheer enjoyment. A really enjoyable and memorable lunch, one that we shall be repeating as soon as possible.

Immaculate linen and uniformed service and perfectly prepared seafood. Go expensive or stick to the set menus which are very reasonable.

A perfect evening in a perfect restaurant. From entering to leaving we felt valued diners, the waiters were helpful without being intrusive. Our food was perfect (starters Prawns and Pate) were well presented and tasty, our mains (Dover Sole and Battered Haddock) were the best we had tasted outside London. Book and go you wouldn't be disappointed.

Was one of our special places for special occasions Top prices so not that that is an issue Just you would expect service to be special and top rate especially as they automatically add a 12 1/2% service charge Well it was noticeable that service by the team this time was not as on previous visits I do believe that top prices deserve top service

Simply brilliant, uncomplicated, delicious seafood. I’m sure their steak’s are great too, but this is a seafood lovers heaven. I just wish they did a cold fruits De mer. Native Oysters were epic, mains cooked to perfection Staff were attentive without being intrusive. The place was full. Bookings essential

I was treated to a lunch today …I knew of this place but initially felt it was perhaps a bit too traditional . Well… it was but in the nicest possible way. The food was fantastic , service good. Place itself just as you would expect from a well established Brighton institution. We both remarked how nice it was to find somewhere with no loud intrusive music…so a good gossip was possible.

We booked English’s for our aunts 86 birthday. She lives in Eastbourne and is not confident enough to get herself to Brighton, so jumped at the chance when I suggested we go! We were not disappointed, the staff, wine, and most importantly the food were exceptional. We shared one of the hot food platters, such theatre when it arrived. It was full of such an array of gorgeous seafood. All delicious ?

We came here for my dad's 80th birthday treat with my family - 14 of us including 6 children. The service was perfect from start to finish. We all loved Fabio who along with the rest of the staff went out of their way to make it a lovely relaxing experience and the food was amazing. Good size portions, well seasoned. A lovely afternoon - thoroughly recommended.

Wonderful food and good service. The two basic essentials for any good restaurant, are here in abundance. In addition, you get a lovely, quite intimate little spot, a great wine list and Avery reasonable bill at the end of your meal. We had 2 courses one glass of wine and a water. £105 Inc the 12.5% service charge.
