The food here is very mediocre. Nice pub, staff fine, but the food was really disappointing. In particular, don't have the loaded chips, really not nice. Won't be eating here again. If you do decide to try it, take a coat as it was cold and we asked if there was any heating and were told no.

The Half Moon catered for us after a local funeral. The manager did a fantastic job. She went above and beyond to make the day stress free and relaxing for us. The food was delicious and to gather round log fires in the cosy pub with spring flowers on all the tables, was just what we wanted. We were really impressed and would highly recommend both the food and the welcoming atmosphere.

DOG FRIENDLY!!! ??This place is literally so amazing we stumbled across it searching for a dog friendly place we can go and I'm so glad we found it!!When you pull into the carpark and look at the building it looks like a homely little cottage so beautiful ?When we arrived all the staff were welcoming and friendly.Food was so fresh and so tasty. Steak didn't have any fat on it nothing worse than having a chewy bit of gristle ?it was perfect !!We had a little robin outside the window who kept trying to fly to us through the window lol so cute.Definitely recommend this place will be back!!Thank you!! ❤️❤️

The New Manager was brilliant, such fun, efficiency and welcoming. Even praised my singing ??Would highly recommendVegetarian options: I wanted a variation on the menu options and the Manager went above and beyond to make my meal yummy and tailored to my very fussy vegetarian tastes

Had a lunch post hull walk - good food and service for the most part but beware the very bland Welsh rarebit - poor choice of cheese makes this very flavourless.Burger was good - well seasoned, juicy, fresh salad, decent burger sauce, fries were superb - double or triple cooked, crisp and delicious.Parking: Good walks nearby!

1/2 Moon is a foody pub - you can sit at the bar but any more than 3 people and you're blocking the route from front to back. Food is OK but expensive compared to other similar venues locally - the food is the same as the other pubs in this small, local chain. Not sure this is a good thing as, surely, most people choose a venue on it's food and this takes away that choice... They do offer a Dining Club discount on food (must include a main course) of 10% - this is Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday and 'a steak for a tenner' deal on Thursdays. The whole pub is undergoing refurbishment in early 2024 inside and out which is great news as it was looking a bit tired when we last visited. Better weather sees the use of the large field for parking and al-fresco dining which proves very popular, especially at weekends as the pub is located in the South Downs National Park and is just a (steep) walk from the South Downs Way.

Following a blustery, wintry afternoon up at Ditchling Beacon how lovely it was to nip 8 minutes down the road for a hearty half of Harvey’s and a bowl of cheesy, chunky chips! A most welcoming haven topped off by sitting beside a warming log fire! Most delightful!

Went for a family meal on boxing day, fast service but ring ahead to reverse a table. Food was mostly okay with vegan and coeliac options but the pie of the day wasnt great.

The welcome by a friendly waitress was good and all seemed promising. When my friend asked for clarification re a white wine she was offered a sample to try - very good. Then things just declined. Having been handed the menus and made our selections we were then informed that both our different starter choices were not available (a 13.00 booking!). As all the prices were quite high I would have expected our alternative choices of ‘vegetable soup’ to have been excellent- it wasn’t. The main courses arrived with our choice of mash potatoes. In addition to being very mediocre and flavourless mash (suggestion of mass produced!) it was cold. Our whole plates were taken away so they could microwave. My friend ordered desert and coffee. The coffee arrived - but no lemon meringue pie. However- it was still on the bill. Towards the end of our lunch the kitchen was clearly being cleaned. Whilst this is admirable the door should be kept closed as it was very unpleasant to be subjected to intense bleach fumes. Our original waitress finished her shift and said a friendly farewell. The handling of the incorrect bill was by a very young man. By then the pub was empty so there was no excuse for the complete lack of effort by the man who appeared to be management. There was no effort at all re apology etc. And - no farewell. At £37 per head for lunch (one desert, 2 glasses of white wine, one zero beer, veg soup, mediocre pie and mash) I would have expected more. My friend is a journalist so it was mere luck that we were not having lunch to actually do a press review.

I don’t usually write reviews but feel compelled to especially as this pub had been recommended on a Facebook group page locally. Our waitress was friendly but busy so it took a while to get menus, a water glass and wine. Two of the five starters weren’t available and the soup we ordered was lacking seasoning. The pie main dish was good but not £17.50 good and the mashed potatoes were cold so we sent them back. A pudding was ordered and never arrived but was still added to the bill. A man we can only assume is the manager - because he never came anywhere near our table - sent a young waiter over to us twice to ask if the mistake was ours and we had cancelled pudding. We told the waiter that we were generally disappointed with our lunch which he conveyed to the manager. Despite this the manager saw us get up, collect our coats and leave but didn’t ask what had gone wrong, apologise - or even say goodbye or thank you. The pub indoors and outside at the front particularly looks a little rundown, the toilets need modernising. Yet another disappointing dining out experience in this country where you pay a lot of money for mediocre food, poor service with little show of gratitude from the managers. Another pub I shall sadly suggest is struck off the local recommendation list.
