Obviously driven by passion, unlike many Chain eateries, my food looked as good as it tasted.
It’s a place I’d not noticed before when visiting Lewes, but I will definitely be back to try others from the menu.

The Rainbow Pub & Carvery
Resting Oak Hill, Cooksbridge, LewesA second visit this week as we were so impressed by the Sunday carvery.
Friday is pie day, (2 for £20 at the time of writing!) I had the most amazing beef and Guinness pie served with mustard mash and a red wine gravy.
You get a choice mash, my wife had horseradish, both were delicious!
All food is prepared in house! Good wholesome nosh!

10 Fisher St, LewesLovely little Italian Restaurant that sells proper authentic Italian Pizza - that my boys absolutely love (seven year olds) one in particular is very fussy with his food and his Piazza, on the last visit he said it was the best Pizza he has ever had! :)

19-21 Market St, LewesSmall very quirky tap room with a small menu. Lots of all day breakfast variations and other lovely sounding brunch options. The fried mushrooms on toasted bread were excellent, with goats cheese, parsley and a perfect level of garlic. We all sampled lovely beers. Service was very friendly. Happy days.

Town Centre, 82 High St, LewesHad lunch and was surprised the menu only had a handful of choices, then we were told by the waitress Lewes is now a Cʻôte light. The food we had was very good but the old menu with a lot of choices would had been nice.

1 Mount Pl, LewesWe dropped in for a drink after having the Lewes arms recommended to us by someone we chatted to at lunch. A great old pub with excellent beer and really friendly staff (the landlord used to run the falcon in Clapham junction and does terrible jokes). Beer was very well cared for. We may move down to Lewes just because of this pub. Ok, maybe not, but it’s great.

3 Station St, LewesOrdered two burgers when we were in a rush to catch the train. Food came out in 5 minutes, excellent burgers and fries at a great price. Bartender even rushed our food to make sure we got it in time. Ended up having a delicious meal with plenty time to spare before the train!

Big fish
7 Fisher St, LewesPopped in Big Fish for the first time last night, had not had fish and chips for a long time and had a real ’hankering’. Was not sure what to expect but wanted to give it a try. So glad I did, was very, very good. Chips were great but the fish was fantastic. Crispy batter, that was not too thick, and a great sized piece of haddock. Big pots of curry sauce and mushy peas! They do have a bit of an identity crisis if you look at all of the different types of food that they sell but this experience has just made me want to try more of the menu. The lady who served was also really nice.

58 Springett Ave, Ringmer, LewesWe've just enjoyed another tasty meal at Ringmer Cafe, so they definitely deserve a positive review.
We had Eggs Benedict the first time, with everything earning 5 stars, as it was delicious, filling, and the staff were very friendly and accommodating.
Tonight's meals of moussaka and scampi were just as well cooked and very tasty, with good portion sizes, as we were left feeling very satisfied but not uncomfortably full.
I can't comment on previous decor but the current atmosphere is pleasant and relaxing and I feel like I could easily enjoy several hours with a coffee, meal and dessert etc, if I could.
The service was very quick and well done both times with all staff being pleasant, welcoming and polite.

Cafe Ganges,has consistently delivered an exceptional experience every time I order. Their tandoori dishes and butter chicken are absolutely stunning—packed with flavor and cooked to perfection. Whether I’m dining in or ordering takeout, the quality remains top-tier.
The staff are incredibly polite, welcoming, and always friendly. Even when I order for delivery, the service is prompt, and the food arrives warm, well-packaged, and without any mess. That level of care really stands out.
I’ve also had the pleasure of dining in, and the experience was just as great. The atmosphere is warm and inviting, and the management personally greets guests, which adds a lovely personal touch.
On top of all that, the pricing is very reasonable—especially considering the location—and there’s plenty of parking available nearby, which makes it even more convenient.
They also serve halal meat which is much appreciated!
Highly recommend Cafe Ganges —great food, great people, and always a pleasure.

I had the Sussex beef burger, it didn't have any flavour whatsoever, very bland. The fries were great though. Squid was average again, salad wasn't great either. The staff are lovely and the local beers are very nice too. I will return, but probably just for drinks.

The Green, Newick, LewesWe stayed at the Bull for three nights the service in the pub was really good and the food excellent however the room left alot to be desired the mattress needed changing, the shower head kept falling down and the TV position was silly. However it was just somewhere to sleep.

186 High Street, LewesASK in Lewes has become one of our favourite family weekend lunch spots. The food is great, well-priced (especially if you join their Perks), there's plenty of choice and plenty of - healthy - kid-pleasers on the kid's menu too. Kris and his team are attentive, friendly, and nothing is too much bother - whether it's grabbing another fork when our three year old knocks one on the floor, or making sure our picky eater doesn't get a 'face' on her face pizza.
We love it here and look forward to eating there whenever we can.

22 Malling St, LewesGreat location and the staff were excellent. They were so friendly and accommodating. The radiator in our unsuited bathroom didn't appear to be working (however, we didn't report this to staff) and the mattress is probably due for replacing. However, the staff, atmosphere, quality of the food and drink, and the cleanliness more than made up for it. We are looking forward to going back the next time we plan to visit family in the area.

34 Lansdown Pl, LewesMe and my wife booked a table for dinner, both ordered a chicken massaman curry, one with sticky rice, the other with coconut rice. My wife is coeliac and they catered for her with no issues, she felt fine afterwards and the day after. Also bear in mind, they do only have benches, no chairs with backs, some benches are against walls though.
It was the best curry we've ever had, and we go to Thai restaurants everywhere we go, it was just incredible, we even ordered 2 more chicken massamans to take away for dinner the day after, if you're in Lewes and looking for somewhere to eat, eat here!

Food was absolutely amazing, the chicken within the curry was the best I’ve ever eaten (and I’ve been to ALOT of curry restaurants) service was also great with very friendly, welcoming staff. This is a very traditional pub with old pub smell, but serving good drinks and great food, and very friendly and personable staff. There is a section at the front with the main bar, and then another section at the rear with more sesting, a second nar, a pool table, and beer garden.
Highly recommended as prices are very reasonable for Lewes.

LewesWe had dinner during the long interval. We'd ordered a bottle of wine beforehand which was waiting for us along with a jug of iced water. Although the menu was two course (mains & dessert), there were nibbles also on the table and bread. Quantities of both courses excellent as well as quality. We had beautiful roast beef, perfectly cooked with huge Yorkshire pudding, jus and a gratin on the side. Not cheap, but what is, thoroughly enjoyed

62 Springett Ave, Ringmer, LewesWorking for a local customer who bought me the bakery's doughnuts. They were far better than most of the big outlets produce. Properly light and fluffy with a proper filling of jam! I returned at lunchtime and purchased a BBQ chicken, coleslaw and cheese sandwich. £4.20 at this point in time. Hand cut thick bread with a lot of filling. It was more filling than any prepackaged shop sandwich. Unbelievable for such reasonably priced food that fed me for the day. Well done to all staff.

Beak Brewery
Unit 14 Cliffe Industrial Est, LewesWhere do I begin? My partner and I had the absolute privilege of having our wedding party at Beak in September 2025. From the very beginning, Will has been an absolute dream to communicate with. He thought of every single detail imaginable, and truly made the planning process so easy and enjoyable. On the day, Will and the lovely team were absolutely incredible. From helping with decorations first thing, to clearing up at the end of the night- the whole team were truly outstanding.The beers, wine and cocktails were all delicious (of course!). The layout and organisation of the food truck, DJ, dancefloor, prosecco table etc were absolutely spot on, which honestly made our day perfect.
We are so grateful to you Will, and the rest of the team at Beak. Thank you for making our day so perfect- having our wedding day at your amazing taproom seriously is a dream come true.
