Lovely little tea room, good selection of cakes, scones etc. Had cream tea, 2 large scones, strawberry jam and thick cream, delicious.

We were encouraged to go in by another couple who are regulars and we were not disappointed. The cakes were superb and generous portions. We sat by an opening to the small garden and enjoyed seeing the garden birds eating leftover cake on the feeders. There is some charming art to browse and buy. We’ll definitely visit again, a nice alternative to the wildlife trust visitor centre which also has awesome cakes but can get very busy. Recommended.

Tea room located within a gallery with work for sale by local artists. Fantastic quality cakes baked locally are a treat. Lunch options were available pre-covid and so hopefully they'll return! Check opening times before a journey.

Delicious cakes and good strong coffee served by friendly hosts. What more could you want?

Stumbled across this sweet little tea room and art gallery - left with some art! A hidden gem.

What a welcoming, wonderful, gem of a place. Super delicious scones and cakes with a changing menu because everything’s homemade. There’s also a gluten-free cake option and as a milk alternative there’s soy milk. To say the staff is super friendly is an absolute understatement. Can only recommend Avocet!

Stumbled upon it when going down to rye harbour. The selection was great of cakes were great, and so were the hosts! The gallery was an added bonus, with many things to pick up for Christmas presents.

Great scones & coffee in lovely surroundings, surrounded by art in the gallery. Tables well-spaced, and sanitised after each customer's use. Very friendly owners and service.
Went for a walk From Winchelsea Beach to Rye Harbour and popped in to the tea rooms for a cuppa and a slice of cake . What a surprise when we say BlackBerry Upside down cake . The owner told us she had picked the blackberries this morning , the cake was heavenly and warm fresh berries amazing . The lemon drizzle was also a delight . Worth the walk , will be back .

Rye Harbour may not be everyone’s cup of tea, but we have been here a few days now and the fact it is a working fishing village, without frills, and with this incredible tearoom in it (as well as an astounding pub - William the Conqueror), really makes it worth coming back to. So much so, that we have already booked a week for next summer. Add to that the unspoilt beauty of the beach, uncluttered and raw, unlike Camber Sands that is ridiculously busy at the moment, plus a beautiful nature reserve to walk through and you have a winner. The owners of Avocet are a welcoming and unassuming couple, who live in the building upstairs. The art gallery is all around the cafe itself and is an eclectic, colourful mix of pottery, paintings, cards, prints, kitchenware, stained glass, sculptures and more. We felt very safe there, as the seating is set very far apart and all windows and doors were flung open. The cakes are simply divine (blackberry cake, blackcurrant cake, fruit cake, lemon drizzle) and taste fresh and home made. Tea is excellent. Our daughter had a lovely pear juice, as well. Several local artists exhibit their works here (including one of the owners - Peter- and it’s lovely to know that what you buy is going back into the local, thriving artistic community. The cafe is only open from Friday to Sunday, so it’s essential to plan your visit, but very much worthwhile. Can’t wait to return, next year.

Excellent tea room, we have come on holiday to this area several times and always come by Rye Harbour and the Avocet Tea Rooms. A lovely venue, very pleasant to look at the varied art work, with good food and cakes. Staff couldn’t be more welcoming, very family friendly.

It must be over 5 years since we were last here. But we were back in Rye for a day trip and wanting afternoon tea and cake before a short walk on the nature reserve. We were glad they were still in business (though they were just about to close for the winter). Last time we came we didn't have a dog, so we were delighted they do allow dogs inside. It's very much a gallery which happens to do tea, coffee and cake. It's not a cafe so don't turn up expecting a full lunch. But they do a great range of home baked cakes. Perfect for a pre/post walk on the stunning Rye Harbour reserve. There are some lovely art works as well. And I was delighted to pick up a very interesting book on bumblebee conservation, a subject on which one of the proprietors is passionate. Great place.
