We went for dinner here. Not only was the food excellent but the staff were incredibly attentive and friendly. Some of the best customer service I've experienced. Great selection of English wine which they champion. The bar and dining room are also beautifully appointed and lovely to sit in.

Having just returned from our lunch reservation, I felt obliged, to put a few words down.I can honestly say that we had a great Sunday lunch experience throughout. We were warmly welcomed by Kerry, who was running the restaurant, and we were attended to extremely professionally. The food was excellent and the attentive staff were extremely friendly. We look forward to the reopening of Romney Bay House Hotel in September, I believe, and to eating there in the near future.

A brilliant mid-week stay at the Gallivant! The food was fantastic, highly recommend the sirloin and it was beautifully cooked. The hotel was stylish, intimate and a great location to relax in - we were lucky with the weather and a sunny evening sunset on the beach. We visited on the 30 under 30 deal and it was incredible value. Special thanks to Jo for the very warm welcome and Ruth for the amazing massages! We will be coming back. Thank you!

Went for an anniversary lunch and the food was very tasty and my wife really liked the local wine selection. The icing on the cake was the manager offered to give us a lift back to Rye as a cab was going to be 1

Our stay at The Galivant was amazing. The service was brilliant, the staff went above and beyond throughout our whole stay. They upgraded our room, left treats in the room after turn down and couldn't have made us feel more welcome. We stayed for supper, breakfast and had a take out in the dunes, all of which were delicious. A special mention for the beef short rib which fell apart at a touch! Breakfast was a delight, an array of tasty local treats with the option to have hot food too. All the little touches made it a perfect getaway; a complimentary glass of wine and nibbles, putting dry robes in our rooms, cakes on the counter, letting us borrow wellies. Thank you very much - we will be back.

I brought my mum here for Mother’s Day, as any son knows there’s always lots of pressure to get it right! We couldn’t have picked a better place to be on such a special day. Kerry the restaurant manager was an absolute delight, service was warm and wonderful. The food from exec chef Nico was delicate and delicious - the chicken liver pâté was the best I’d ever had! Would absolutely recommend a visit here, they’ve nailed everything from the gorgeous interiors to the brilliant team running the restaurant.

Cannot recommend The Gallivant highly enough. Everything is wonderful here. All staff are marvellous but, specific recognition to Lindsay, Naketa, Agnes and John - nothing is too much trouble for them.Rooms: Beautiful and comfortable.Food & drinks: Locally sourced deliciousness.

Had a one night midweek stay at the Gallivant for two. Included a delicious breakfast and a yoga class within the price. I really love the ambiance of this hotel - warm, luxurious and stylish. Our room was superb (Trafalgar); the staff were attentive without being intrusive, and even though it was blowing a sandstorm across the dunes, the beach location was totally invigorating. I would go back in a heart beat.

Rooms may look nice but they are small - with no fridge, no drinks/ snacks, no coffee machine and no room service available etc.Service was pretty poor, and not much restaurant availability for dinner (6pm only) or breakfast (9-10am not available) - although I was there til 9.30am and it was very empty! Definitely not worth the price. Would not recommend.

Noteworthy details: Not even even there?

Following a review of the Galivant from a family member I decided to have a read through more of them. Hopefully not being too cynical, I set aside the 'Local Guide' ones which seemed to give 5 stars on pretty much every occasion. The Galivant seems to divide opinion to an unusual degree. In my case, I was really impressed with the look and feel as I walked through to the bar. I thought the bar service was friendly. I enjoyed my meal, everything was acceptable but the portions were on the small side. On the menu everything was described in an elevated way which, along with the price, made me assume I'd be getting something pretty special. Our meal for 2 was £270 and it really wasn't worth it, it wasn't special at all. Such a shame. There are lots of really negative reviews so I hope the management get to the bottom of the issues, wouldn't it be great if such a promising place lived up to its potential.

We went for a special dinner last Friday for the first time under the new owners.Unfortunately it was all very disappointing .On arrival there was no welcome .We ordered drinks which came but no nibbles !We then went through to the restaurant where we had a long wait for uninspiring food some of which we ordered which never came and other items that were sold out.To top it all a huge bill was presented to us !The Gallivant is totally under managed and overpriced .

Despite the beautiful setting and premises, I had a bad feeling about this place from the start. No friendly welcome on arrival. The staff were aloof, slow and inattentive. Iced coffee was served in a beer chalice glass. We ordered the sourdough, which we over over 15 minutes for and had to ask if it was coming as we were hungry. I felt underwhelmed by the 2 slices of mediocre bread that eventually arrived. I ordered the steak, asked for it to be cooked medium with no blood. After another long wait, it arrived blue and extremely chewy with blood on the plate. We were not asked how our meal was or even if we wanted more drinks. Eventually a waiter came to clear our plates, did not ask how the food was. Our waitress asked us if we’d “had enough”. We expressed our disappointment and asked to pay the bill. After waiting to pay the bill for 20 minutes watching staff mill around in a restaurant with no customers, desperate to get out at this point I had to go up to ask for the card machine to be brought over. Would not recommend.

Highly recommend The Gallivant for a rejuvenating and luxurious getaway! The rooms are breathtaking, the bar and restaurant are inviting, creating a true home away from home. The fantastic team is attentive, friendly, and always ready to ensure an exceptional stay. A special shout-out to Naketa, whose warm welcome made our experience truly memorable – a genuine gem!P.s Don't miss 'Wine at Five' and the morning yoga class – they are a must!

The room was great and the food was excellent. Strange there are reviews here complaining about the service. The staff made the experience what it was for us, they were all so kind and helpful and we felt really well looked after. There were some really nice little touches here and there that made our visit extra special.I think if there was anything I'd suggest changing, it would be being a bit clearer about one or two little incidentals here and there on the bill. I think it might be worth pointing out, for example that if you partake in the afternoon cake or accept some (tasty) nibbles at the beginning of a meal, it's chargeable. That way it doesn't come as a surprise - just a thought.Definitely would return!
