Having not ordered from here in a long time we thought we tried here again, unfortunately this time was a bit like last very dull. We understand they was busy no biggi but the food was bad the chips had no flavour was luke warm at best, the chips tasted like the potatoes was very old and definitely not fresh my savaloy was cold. The fish very dry the batter was soggy and didn't taste fresh and the burger was sad to see a Rustlers burger would have been a much better option then what we received. The food lacked flavour and freshness the pictures don't look as bad as what we saw

Had fish & chips a few times from Smith & Jones. Mostly been OK but sometimes not OK. Tonight was awful so won't won't use them again.Chips were what seemed to be a mixture of a few freshly cooked but the rest seemed recooked and just kept warm.

Another disappointment ordered two large cod and one medium large chips well the large cod was smaller than the medium and chips were like

I go there when my wife gives blood down the road. Tonight it was quiet, beautifully clean and with new menu boards. Ordered cod and chips x 2. All cooked fresh and when the cod was being wrapped up, it looked good. But when we got home and eat the meal, the cod was spectacular, crisp skin and beautifully flaky fish, a triumph. The chips were good as well! Great place, thank you.
Five years ago it was a no for me but this place has improved so much. People should give it a go.

As a regular customer I really enjoy the quality of the food they serve. Like many places they have had to increase their prices so it is no longer the reasonably priced meal it once was.

Fresh and extremely tasty fish and chips. For me, one of the best places for fish and chips in Braintree. The prices are very good, the portions are huge and the food is of high quality and the staff was very friendly.

This well known and loved chippy has been a mainstay of Braintree Town for years now and it's never really quite which tells a tale of it's own. People will vote with their feet and their feet (and mine) vote to walk here! Prices are quite reasonable and the fish etc is cooked fresh. There's usually a good deal on during the day and early evening.

First time trying this establishment. Not the best, but certainly not the worst. Seemed rather expensive (£8) for a large portion of chips and two battered sausages. Will try the likes of fish next time.
