A Beloved Indian Spot Taking a Wrong TurnPakwaan has long been a favourite destination for those seeking an elevated Indian dining experience that breaks free from the traditional curry house mold. With its contemporary ambiance and innovative twists on classic dishes, it has carved out a niche for itself among discerning diners. However, my recent visit on Saturday, March 30th, left me with a nagging concern that the restaurant may be veering off course.Let me preface this by saying that the food quality and service remain impeccable, and the overall atmosphere is as inviting as ever. My qualms lie solely with the recent pricing adjustments, which, in my opinion, risk alienating a significant portion of their clientele. The most glaring example is the Chicken Biryani, now priced at just under £20. While this dish has always been a standout, such a steep price tag for a relatively simple offering seems excessive, even in the context of London's dining scene.Similarly, the Chicken Masala Buna, a staple of the menu, now hovers around £19, pushing the boundaries of what most would consider reasonable for a classic curry dish. But perhaps the most egregious offense is the starting price for a bottle of white wine, which now stands at an eye-watering £29. This pricing strategy seems to be at odds with Packwaancasual, accessible vibe and risks pricing out a significant portion of their customer base. While I understand the need for restaurants to adapt to changing market conditions, such drastic price hikes often come at the cost of alienating loyal patrons. In a city teeming with exceptional Indian dining options, Packwaan pricing strategy may prove to be a misstep, potentially driving customers toward more affordable alternatives. It pains me to voice these concerns, as Packwaan has long been a personal favourite. However, if these pricing trends continue, I fear that the restaurant may lose some of its charm and accessibility, straying too far from the principles that made it such a beloved destination in the first place.

Wonderful visit to Pakwaan to celebrate a 65th birthday. It is a 'special occasion' venue for us.Food was fabulous, so tasty with huge depths of flavour and excellent spices.Very well presented food and service is absolutely first class. Friendly, informative and attentive without being intrusive on the meal.Restaurant was quiet (Thursday early evening), but excellent decor and surroundings meant being quiet did not negatively effect the atmosphere for us.Pakwaan, although at a higher price point than alternative Indian Restaurants, represents very good value for exceptionally good food and service. All contributed to making a special event unforgettable for our group. Many thanks and regards,Janette, James + Rebecca

Not just the best Indian restaurant I’ve ever eaten in, but the best restaurant full stop. Bar none. The food is incredible. The staff are amazing, with owner Raj leading the way.I try to visit once a month and have tried the entire menu. Everything is that good.Great for a romantic night. Perfect for a night out with friends. Fun for birthdays. Good with the kids for a special treat. Honestly, just the perfect place.

Went for a dine out on Saturday with family, excellent food and Incredible service. John ,the manager was very friendly and welcoming who made us feel at home. Even though less Service staff but he managed brilliantly. Would definitely recommend. One of the finest Indian restaurants I have been.

I don’t do reviews but felt compelled to do one. Had great expectations for high end Indian food but let down. Had been recommended so many times by people who frequently attend. Two of our party had been before and rated it!! - The good part was the food was awesome but expensive (£100 p/h) - Poor Service even though not busy post Christmas /New Year. Examples ….We asked for a further 5 minutes to choose from the extensive menu… after 15-20 minutes we had to chase to order…. The same happened between main meal and deserts for at least 30 mins. We were at the table for 4 hours in all!! - Table for 6 on large Square table (should be round or rectangular which led to a more unsociable atmosphere for our party. - I don’t know if this is usual but there was a Indian keyboard player and whilst entertaining/singing he kept turning the system up to such a point that we saw the manager/owner make him turn It down!! I know a table of 4 next to us were not happy!! We enjoyed it but was loud! - The annoying part: I don’t check my bills (itemised) but just guess an approximate cost and pay!! It was in the ballpark of my expectations.. However, after I paid I noticed that I was charged for a Rum and Coke from the bar that no one drinks or had!! This came to £11 with service…. I let it go as we had to get home annd didn’t want the fuss/delay and we had been there long enough but this shouldn’t happen!!! Also it didn’t make a huge difference to my large bill!! - It was expensive so I expected high end service and for me it didn’t hit that spot!! Will I go again? The food was incredible but the whole experience didn’t meet my expectations !! I might have to give it another try at some point, but my experience was tainted and to be honest my local Indian house is probably better due to being half the price!!!

This restaurant has a really lovely ambience and we had high hopes. However, the food we were served was mediocre at best and very, very expensive. £300 for a curry for 4 people including one bottle of wine? There are other authentic Punjabi restaurants that would give Pakeaan a run for its money - we would not go back unfortunately.

Dined at Pakwaan on a bustling Friday night. The restaurant had a fantastic atmosphere, and our order, including daal makhani and butter chicken, was exceptionally delightful. Highly recommend giving this place a try. Food and service 10/10.
