Took twice for a room they didn't have available, which isn't really what you want to hear when you turn up with a suitcase expecting to get a key for a room you've already paid for.Go to The County across the road, for an extra tenner you get somewhere run professionally.

My first visit to this quirky pub. Staff were friendly and helpful. We enjoyed our catch up over a few glasses of wine.

Don't ever trust them with a room reservation. Made a booking back in September for 1 night on 25 December and despite corresponding with me last week to confirm key pick-up time for the room, today they've decided to tell me they're closed and can't accommodate the booking.Disgraceful dis-organisation and my Christmas visit to family is now ruined - they don't deserve to stay in business.

1/12/23 been coming here for 10+ years and there was a swarm of 13/14/15 year olds coming in huddled over a single table zero checks. Not even not even close to being 18 years old. Bar staff tonight early 20’s . Locals at the bar have echo’d the same to me and have left early. Not a signle how ID check. I will be reporting this which is a shame as it’s one of my favourite pubs in Chelmsford.

Lovely pub. Variety of age groups. Fun on a weekend evening, and the BEST roast LAMB on a Sunday! The lamb alone keeps me coming back!

A pub not a hotel. Fantastic atmosphere. Good food, plenty of choice, served incredibly quickly. We were there on Beaujolais Nouveau day by chance (very lucky to get a table) and the staff were all beautifully dressed in French themed costume.

Terrible pint of Guinness This should be where would get the best pint but the staff have no idea. Poured in one hit with no time for settling. Bubbly head snd no dome in fact the head sank into the glass. Young bar staff not trained how to serve. And the glass was dirty. Very poor.

Bar staff excellent. Ordered off the board, said salmon with sauce on side. Bar staff took order. Kitchen staff came out after 10 minutes & said salmon is cooked in sauce, so said no thanks, chose a different dish. When food came out was informed cutlery on the bar. Wrong attitude.

A short walk from the station and town centre this pub has maintained its excellent choice of beers, beautiful decor and always friendly and efficient staff. One of the last proper pubs still in Chelmsford.Walkability: A short walk from the station.

Have lunched here with friends for years because the food was always excellent. On this occasion though the same could not be said, we were really disappointed.

Love the Ship - great traditional pub, super food, and lo wly ambience - is now by far my best local pub in Chelmsford.

You have recently updated your menu prices (increased) so there really is no excuse for lack of transparency of pricing. When ordering an omelette I asked how many fillings do you get with that (the menu states a fluffy omelette with your choice of fillings, and no extra charge is mentioned) , I was told as many as I wanted, I repeated my question and the same answer was given. I chose 2 fillings which is fairly standard when eating out. On paying, the price increased from the advertised menu price. Only upon asking I was told it’s extra for each filling. Nothing is mentioned on the menu and the member of staff also did not say even when asked when choosing the fillings. Only when I questioned the difference price was I told oh yeah it’s extra for each filling. Do you really want to be underhand in this way by making an extra few pounds and being un transparent in your pricing and frankly annoying your customer. Just put it on the menu please and be clear. Otherwise customers will be wondering is sauce extra, salt , vinegar, where else are the extra charges hidden. I have had to mention this as a little while back upon ordering an all day breakfast, I was asked if I wanted toast and extra money was added, again with no mention of the extra charge form the member of staff. I have been coming here for 30 years and have only recently noticed these underhand practices.
