Great takeaway that is popular with locals. It has a small amount of tables and chairs but is mainly a takeaway. The chip portions are very generous so we always share a large portion. You can get med cod & chips for £10 or budget fish n chips for £6. A good variety on the menu pies, fish, sausages, chicken, spring rolls etc.I think they used to be cash only but noticed today they now take cards.

We tried this based on the good reviews and were really not impressed. The service was very good and everything was cooked to order, but the fish was swimming in old fat and the chips were greasy and soggy. Ended up throwing the meals away as they were horrible. Such a shame.

When here on Friday at 3pm had cod and chips small seating area we had cod and chips food was freshly cooked and very good , good price as well even had fish knifes to eat with would highly recommend this fish shop and will definitely go

Traditional fish and chip shop. The sausages and scampi were excellent; the "budget " fish and chips delicious and just the right size. Friendly and helpful staff. Eat in or take away. Worth the short walk.

Such great fish and chips! The curry pancake is totally awesome
Nice food and nice service but unfortunately I'm shocked on the prices of the food now. I use to get a budget cod and chips for £3.50 then understandable the price increased due to the crisis of price rises. But now is £6 just for a budget cod !!! Absolutely shocking so now I will not go there again. Shame but another chip shop in town is £5 for budget cod. I will go there when I fancy a little bite.

So having recently sampled a few of the Fish & Chip shops in the area... our view is that John's is one of the best.... Up there in the top 2.Service was prompt.The chips were amazing, cooked to perfection.Unlike other places recently, they were not hard (potentially undercooked), they were not cold, and also not greasy/oily. Just perfect...The portion size was good too (£2.20 for small)Would recommend..

On my way to Clacton-on-sea for a work meeting, I really fancied fish and chips. I searched online for the nearest good rated chip shop near to my hotel and this chip shop came up. Easy to find from the seafront; I ordered a medium cod with small chips and 2 ketchup, total £10. I thought that price was reasonable compared to the same in my home county of Devon. They also did a budget fish and chips for £6. Very reasonable wait. The food was excellent - really nice chips, good portion size. Fish was very chunky and tasty, good batter as well. There was a bit of oil in the wrapper but I didn't mind that; overall excellent fish and chips. Would have again when/if in the area.
