This is a really quaint location with an "old pub" feel. The exposed beams and warming fire give a real cosy feel and the atmosphere was relaxed and friendly. The staff were very welcoming and chatty and very accommodating. There are two menus for food, both with great options and reasonable prices. There was a good lunch menu with some classic pub favourites, but also a full Thai menu. We went for the pub style food which had generous portions and tasted great. Some nearby tables were enjoying the Thai menu which looked and smelt great, with comments on how much food there was for the price. I will definitely be coming back here to try some more of the food and enjoy a drink in the sunshine

We managed to get a last minute table on Mothers Day last year and we were not disappointed. The Sunday Roast was lovely and we have been back several times since.Mama Cook Truck is a great addition. The food is suburb.Great little cosy pub and a hidden gem. Highly recommended.

Popped in today on my way home to Colchester from my parents' place in Wigborough. We were met with smiles from a lovely lady behind the bar, a roaring fire, oak beams and a cosy room. Then we discovered that the landlord's other half is Thai and there is a full Thai menu available. Jackpot! We ordered the veg tempura and pad thai and both were delicious. We will be back.

Cosy country pub. Barmaid very attentative to customers and pleasant. Ordered Thai Chicken Panini with chips and chilli beef jacket potato. Arrived well presented and wife's meal came with 2 good sized jacket potatoes. Another great bonus is that it is DOG FRIENDLY. Definitely well worth a visit if in the Mersea area. Also does Thai food at reasonable prices

We were travelling to Mersea Island with our pooch in the car and thought we would stop off for a drink and some lunch. We arrived about 15 minutes before the pub opened, but the chef came out and asked if we were going into the pub, which we confirmed we were. He did apologise and say that the bar staff was stuck in traffic but would be here in about 5 minutes. That was fine as it was a nice day. The staff were very friendly and helpful and we ordered our food, which was excellent. My husband had fish and chips and the fish was very white and flaky, so it is fresh fish they serve and not frozen. Brilliant. I have moinks, never had these before but they again, were very tasty meatbealls wrapped in bacon. The bar staff provided drink for our pooch and helped us to look at the Strood Cam to see that we could pass safely. We then sat in the rear garden again a very nice surrounding and spoke with the owner, who didn't try and rush off, even though he was busy. Would totally recommend this pub for anybody who is travelling to Mersea Island or even if just passing - Pop in this is an old welcoming pub. Makes a change these days. Thank you to all.

Last went to the peldon plough in April, on the of chance we asked if they could fit 2 of us in,it was extremely busy, we sat in the bar. I had roast beef my husband had the mega roast beef and turkey. Last time we went the gravy was a thing to talk about it was so nice, not quite the same today. The food was good but only luke warm,I was so hungry I wasnt going to leave it. All veg was fresh, good home made Yorkshire. We had extra gravy this time.
