The Pride the owner has in pleasing customers with home made food he makes himself is humbling! The Hummus is so creamy and smooth you have to taste it to understand how good it is for your self. Quality and Quantity! Uk Pubs and Restaurants would do well to try to match the large portions! Most of the Pubs and 90 percent of the restaurants would never make it in the USA with their small portions! We would not put up with it! So far it seems only Middle Eastern eateries serve decent portions of food! Even Indian restaurants are stingy with their portions?Pubs have really Fallen in Quality food since the 1970s Shame! This Restaurant we will keep coming back to!

Rim Jhim Spice Indian Restaurant

I occasionally work in the Library next door to Rim Jhim and the aromatic cooking coming from the restaurant led to my wife and I going for a meal last week. I have been eating curry for many years and I think this meal was up there with the best of them. The atmosphere was busy but not too loud with a nice mix of young and old patrons. The service was attentive and polite and, although the food was slightly more expensive than other places we have eaten, it was all absolutely delicious and value for money. We will definitely be visiting again soon.

Cosy country pub. Barmaid very attentative to customers and pleasant. Ordered Thai Chicken Panini with chips and chilli beef jacket potato. Arrived well presented and wife's meal came with 2 good sized jacket potatoes. Another great bonus is that it is DOG FRIENDLY. Definitely well worth a visit if in the Mersea area. Also does Thai food at reasonable prices

I came for a meal on Friday evening for my 21st and had the most lovely evening. The food comes out as and when which is perfect especially if you’re ordering loads of small things! The sushi is top tier, some of the best gyoza i’ve had and you have to try the spicy chips! Our server, Gareth, made our evening with amazing service he was so friendly and super attentive! We booked The Lion for a one night stay with breakfast. We stayed in room 4 which did have a quirky bathroom with restricted height access. Room was quiet, very clean and stylish. Bed was firm and very comfortable. Breakfast was lovely and staff keen to please. We were even offered a pastry to take with us which we accepted! Location wise for our event was ideal and also for exploring Flatford Mill before heading home. I have read some not so good reviews for the restaurant but from our experience the staff are happy to receive feedback and pretty sure would do all they could to make things right. Would definitely recommend.

We phoned up and asked for their availability to which we were accommodated with whichever time we desired. The staff were extremely happy, helpful, and lovely to talk to during our stay. Very accommodating for my partners dietary requirements which is always a bonus! 10/10 would recommend and look forward to visiting here again in the future!

Great location - beach is nearby, lots of walks with the dog. Nice bar and restaurant although you have to sit outside with the dog but at least there is a covered and heated area. Shop onsite. Showers were warm and clean, as were the toilets. Internet is non- existent in the caravan but works fine near the entertainment. All staff except the park warden were friendly and welcoming. Fishing lakes closed and although we didn't want to fish, we couldn't even walk around them, which was a shame. Overall a good experience.

Went to play some pool on a Tuesday night so probably not representative of what it'd be like on a Thursday/Friday/Saturday - depends what kind of night you're after, but for a leisurely game of pool on a Tuesday night it was perfect. The bar had a wide array of beers / largers and well stocked liquor. One thing I should point out is the kickboards on the sofa can absorb pool-balls. In a one-in-a-million fluke, I dropped the black ball while racking-up, and confidently let it roll along the floor thinking I'd be able to find it. Could I find it? No. Walked the length of the upstairs area, checked downstairs,to see if the ball had somehow made its way down the staircase. No luck. Then finally, I noticed the cushion on the sofa was a little off centre and lifted it up. Lo an behold, there was the 8-ball. It had it the kickboard and jumped inside the base of the sofa.

If you were driving along the main road it would be easy to not notice the Abbey Arms, especially as the entrance faces the other way and I didn't see any classic pub signage hanging... Inside you will get served by friendly staff and have a large choice of drinks to choose from. There is a table to play at, and a large screen to watch the footy. I didn't think there was loads of seating inside, and to be fair if your having a quick pint, it probably doesn't matter. Whilst they have some benches outside, it is hard to ignore the busy road!

Love the Friar. The staff and landlords are all lovely friendly smashing people. The beer is always good. The pub always has a buzz about it. Over weekends the place is generally very busy, with plenty to amuse you. From darts, pool, slot machines, and sky. Even if you are a stranger you are somehow made to feel welcome. Occasionally some weekends there is live music. Highly recommended as a local which concentrates on its customers and not food as this is a none eating establishment. Thank you. Highly recommended.

Beer is well kept and reasonably priced.Very community minded with regular events and the pub makes space available for local groups before usual opening hours if needed.Absolutely drop in if you live locally, this pub deserves our support.

Tasty food, clean area, nice open kitchen, friendly staff and quick service. For a really spicy lover, do try the spicy beef ramen and scotch bonnet chicken wings. The beer wasn’t cold enough though, we prefer a very cold beer with the slightly frozen bits outside the bottle. This more for a ramen or hot noodle lover specially in the cold weather.There were not many table inside, so book a table in advance is always a better solution.No parking outside because it’s located in the Colchester City Centre which you will prefer to park at the parking building and just walk.Overall experience was good and happy and would love to comeback again.

It was delicious, no grease on the plate, you could tell the eggs were fresh, sausages not cheap nasty but I reckon home made and service was outstanding , felt like we had our own waitresses . This as a club all agreed will be a regular stop and eating hole . Thankyou red dog . Highly recommended.Parking: Gravel car park couple pot holes which in a car isn't a problem. Slight hazard for bikers though but ok

Incredible!!We stayed 4 nights and also ate dinner every evening too,they had such a great menu,one couldn't ask for more!Fresh ingredients cooked perfectly, they were once restaurant owners,so one can see that the food is prepared with professionalism and passion!The rooms are well equipped, super comfortable with everything you need.The house is super quirky, so if that's your niche or want something off the norm,then this is your dream.The grounds are delectable and refreshing.When you exit the house you are immediately in the midst of Constables countryside, it's mesmerising and enigmatic place of serenity and peace.No noise or distractions,no traffic or disturbance...just pure zen!Well done and huge respect for Wendy, Jim and their fabulous staff for putting together this masterpiece, it takes a lot of passion to create this distinctive atmosphere we all seek to free minds!!I can't thank you all enough.
