My mother and I ate in here recently and we were not impressed.Ordered two goats cheese and caramelised onion toasties on brown bread.Initially the plate of food looked great.Unfortunately it was very disappointing. The goats cheese was mixed with the onions to make a sort of paste and not a lot of it. The bread was doorstop thick. The paste was hardly noticeable due to the filling/ bread ratio.I sent them back and requested some actual goats cheese which they kindly did. But unfortunately the bread was still too much to compete with the lacklustre filling.Sorry but if you can't get a basic toasted sandwich right, I wouldn't hold out much hope for anything else off the menu.

I was in Colchester visiting and there is a lot of choice to eat but we decided on Timbers for breakfast. I don't eat meat and there was plenty of options for me but I went for the vegetarian cooked breakfast and it was the best I've had so far. Everything was absolutely spot on including a free coffee and a very reasonable price. I'll definitely go back next time I'm in Colchester and would recommend it to anyone who asks.

Had to comment on how accomdating and helpful chef Lou was when we ate there this weekend. One of our family has a strict diet for health reasons and Lou came out to discuss options that she could make specifically for him. Wonderful service from Lou & the staffand the food itself was fantastic (as always!!!).

Our go to place at lunchtime when in town. The food is nicely cooked, the choice excellent, and portion size ok for lunchtime. The jackfruit curry is especially good. The staff are efficient and friendly. Can get busy at midday and in warm weather the room upstairs can get quite hot.

We booked for a table of seven for lunch. As always, we were warmly greeted and seated very quickly. Can’t fault this place at all, an extensive menu which means there’s something for everyone, and the food is always so good. A special mention for Louise who was in the kitchen during this visit and made my omelet to a special request. They’ll always strive to accommodate you and it remains a firm favourite of ours to lunch at.

My first visit. Had a late lunch of a pulled pork baguette. Very reasonable prices and friendly staff. Side salad looked a bit sad and could have done with a light dressing but other than that it was really good. Would go back again.

We stopped in to Timbers before popping home, greeted quickly by the staff who were very friendly and approachable. Cafe is tidy and clean, and there is plenty of options on the menu including options for the kids that are not all just '...and chips' options! Also they are very accomodating in swapping things in / out, which was great for the kids meals. The food came quickly (with kids meals first - as they should) and it was well presented. I had gone for the all day breakfast, with the wife going for the curry. In terms of the all day breakfast the black pudding was a little over cooked (crunchy) and I had to actually ask if it came with Sausages.. which it turns out was forgotten! They quickly returned with said sausages, so resolved - but always nice if you don't have to ask in the first place. I noticed my wife hadn't eaten much of the chicken in her curry - I tried a bit and despite being in tikka masala sauce it was really dry, not nice at all. On bright side my young 'un enjoyed his kids lasagne! Three of us had milkshakes, opting for the ice cream version but whilst they weren't bad, I didn't think they tasted much like an ice cream milkshake...All in all it was an OK experience and price seemed reasonable, just a shame about some of the food related issues, hopefully it was a one off.

Excellent breakfast. Plenty of it. Really good sausages and bacon.Staff also deserve a mention as service is quick, friendly and efficient. The way they spoke to an elderly gentleman who was apparently in for a weekly breakfast was very touching. Even offered to keep his water bottle topped up of he drank it all on the hottest day. Above and beyond.Recommended.

Absolutely fantastic place to stop for food or a drink! I've lived in Colchester for 8 years & this is the first time I've tried Timbers after reading an excellent review from another person.Cheap, tasty, good service & a lovely place to sit & eat, what more could you ask for, the regular breakfast was spot on, under £6, wasn't greasy or heavy it was perfect. Well done to the chef/chefs. The service was fast & brekkie was out in I think, less than 10 mins. He menu looks great with a wide range of choices - definitely my new favourite & will definitely be going back & telling my friends & family. We was served/cooked for by Maria, Ella, Shanyce Pete & Lou - a credit to the restaurant. Me & hubby are well impressed especially after eating out lately & not getting value for money or nice food!!!Thanks! ?

Really Nice local place for lunch. We had the steak pie to share and it was delicious. The portions are fairly large so sharing worked fine for us. Our waitress Fran did a great job.

A really great experience. We are from out of town, staff were kind enough to direct us and wait for us outside the restaurant. The service was exceptional with very pleasant staff. The breakfasts were really good. Our compliments to the chef.
