I was genuinely excited about dining at The Bengal, having heard of their 40% discount promotion on all food. When inquired about the offer, the staff confirmed it was a straightforward 40% off. However, a disappointing twist awaited us when we received our bill.Despite no mention earlier, we were suddenly informed of a £60 minimum spend requirement to avail the discount. This unexpected caveat forced us to add an extra £4 to our order, just to hit that threshold. It felt quite misleading, and honestly, took away from the overall dining experience. That being said, it would be an injustice not to mention that the food was delectable. Every dish was a burst of flavors, and there were no complaints in that department. However, transparency in promotions is crucial for maintaining trust, and on that front, The Bengal has room for improvement.

I went here for a solo dinner. All fine until the bill came. I was charged £3:80 for 1 poppadom (0.95 + 3 sauces at 0.95 each) I eventually got this charge removed (being that I hadn’t asked for sauces - definitely never paid for sauces in an Indian before ) but not before being told I’ve never been to an Indian restaurant (I have -many) I just want free food (nope just want to pay for what I order) and I’m lucky they haven’t added a non discretionary service charge (?!) I had to reiterate (multiple times) that although I’m not happy I’d certainly pay rather than argue , the waiter did not want to give up the debate and I just wanted a stress free dinner! Weirdest experience!

Takeaway used to be really good from here but it’s gone downhill lately. There’s always a lot of oil in the food, it just sits on top as a thick layer. Makes the food not taste fresh. I had to spoon the oil off last time. Please stop with the oil

Lovely food served in beautiful dishes. The place has been thoroughly renovated and now fit for the modern era. I had the king prawns special with sag bhaji and tarka dall. All the dishes were nicely balanced and had authentic taste. Well done to the chef.Parking: I’m

Food was lovely but took a long time to come. The two waiters were also lovely, but had clearly no training at all, had no clue about the menu, the other two who I assume were the ‘managers’ were nothing short of hostile. Took no time to welcome or even acknowledge their guests… or help out their staff who were clearly overwhelmed (with their 4 tables) The drinks menu was under stocked and the measures really small. Also I cannot believe that we were charged for the dips which would always usually come with the Papadums! We used to visit often as it was good value and so close to our home. We won’t be coming back!Dietary restrictions: The staff had no clue about allergies. It was hard work trying to find out what was dairy free!

What Indian restaurant doesn't have onion bargees on the menu? Chicken tikka masala was like a korma. Very slow service.
