“I've been here 2-3 times in the last 5 years and eaten lunch here. The food is very good. They do table service, but manage to remain a proper pub rather than going "way gastro". A good beer selection, including Wadsworth's 6X, which it's unusual to find in this part of the country.”

“We had a fantastic evening at The Crown and Thistle in Great Chesterford last night. The food was exceptional – authentic Thai flavours, beautifully presented, and cooked to perfection. I had the Sea Bass Special, and the chef kindly prepared one fillet battered and the other grilled, as I couldn’t decide – such a lovely touch! Both were absolutely delicious. The prawn toast deserves a special mention too – I’ve genuinely never had prawn toast that good before! Paul had the Panang Nuea (beef curry), which was rich, warming, and full of flavour. We were both so impressed. The service was friendly and welcoming, and the pub itself is a lovely, characterful building that feels cosy and inviting. Highly recommend – we’ll definitely be back!”

“Kicking myself that I’ve only now been to this pub after visiting Saffron Walden infrequently for many years. My new favourite pub in Walden by a country mile, head & shoulders above the majority of the other local offerings. Attentive and pleasant staff, awesome selection of real ales, comfortable and spacious beer garden, the list of compliments goes on… Unfortunately didn’t have time to stay and sample one of the various food offerings, maybe next time. I will DEFINITELY be back!!”

“Thai is our favourite food and here is one of the best we've had. Set in a lovely country pub. Massaman and panang were both delicious. Excellent tom yum soup and pad thai too.
