Good pub grub! Ample portions and well cooked. The space is cosy without being cramped. Will return.

Super super Sunday roast.Great customer service. They went above and beyond for us. Food was delicious and all homemade. Very picky about roast potatoes and the ones we were served were crispy on the outside and fluffy in the middle. Veg was roasted instead of just steamed. Our young children devoured every last bite. Will definitely come back

We booked Sunday lunch after a lovely long circular walk in the surrounding countryside and received a warm welcome from the friendly and very efficient young staff. Obviously well-trained to the high standards of the landlord. Table service was excellent and the food was hearty, homemade and delicious. The landlord himself was very helpful and chatty, but without being intrusive.Service is so important in creating a good impression and this pub has got it just right!

Lovely country pub, wood burner. Good selection of wines and beers. Food is lovely, can’t recommend the homemade shepherds pie enough! Great homemade food, haddock and chips perfect.

I was too late for food (my fault!) but very friendly and welcoming people regardless, so managed a decent local Essex pint and a very good packet of crisps from Duxford. It’s the simple things that matter! I’ll be back for food.

Lovely setting for a meal. Roast chicken and beef were beautifully cooked and we were impressed we were asked how we would like our beef cooked. Ashdon is a quaint village to walk around too.

We had Sunday lunch here today and it was really lovely. The rarebit tart as a starter was very tasty, and the roast beef dinner was excellent……the beef was pink, soft and tender. Veg was lovely and a good selection. Special mention for the gravy which was fabulous ..we asked for more it was so good! We took our young labrador with us and sat outside, but could have sat in if we’d have wanted to….so the pub is very dog friendly. The manager was chatty and very friendly and the young lad serving was just as nice. They were both attentive but not overbearing which was great. All in all a very good experience and we will definitely go again.

Brought my visiting family over for dinner. The team sat us down in a quiet room and squeezed in our order just before the close of the kitchen. Food was delicious. Pizzas were cheesy and so filling. My mother ordered a fish and chips, which she really enjoyed. The batter was light and fresh and the fish portion was generous. She was so impressed! The team were fantastic, attentive and so friendly. Thank you!

My husband and I have adopted this as our family pub and it's our default option any time we find ourselves needing to pop out for lunch or dinner. The food is always top notch, the staff are friendly, the cider is cold, and the atmosphere is incredibly cosy and warm, with an added (HUGE) bonus that they are dog friendly, which is a must for our family. We love this place and can't wait to bring friends and family to show off our favourite little spot!

Just had a fantastic family meal at the Rose and Crown. We were made to feel really welcome from the moment we arrived until we left full to bursting. The kids had pizza which they thoroughly enjoyed. The Welsh rarebit tart was a gorgeous starter with crispy thin pastry. We followed this with the homemade Steak pie and the lamb Kofta’s, both were absolutely stunning and cooked perfectly. Apart from the food this pub stands out due to the wonderful staff who instantly make you feel like a local and take the time to get to know a little bit about you. Such a rare treat to find. We will tell everyone about this place as it is perfect.

What a lovely pub! We called in for Sunday lunch and were made to feel really welcome in a cosy corner complete with a bed for our dog. The pub has a lovely ambience with lots of character. The food and service were outstanding - the vegan pie was substantial and delicious with really good flavours, served with perfectly veg. Our dog was even treated with off cuts of beef. I wish we lived closer, we’d be back every week! ????
