I booked La Petite Petanque for an afternoon tea for a hen party of 16. Everything was fantastic - the booking process was easy, they were very accommodating of various dietary requirements in the group, and service on the day was fantastic. The manager took care of us fantastically - he brought us tea and different drinks very quickly, and there was no issue with splitting the bill and taking off our deposit at the end. The food was all delicious and clearly made fresh. The atmosphere was excellent, and we were also allowed to add our own bunting and table decorations for the hen party alongside their lovely crockery and teacups.

Beautiful. Looks like it has been converted from a Bowls Club.Great atmosphere. Wonderful service. Very friendly. Fantastic staff. Make you very welcome, like your going into their parlour. Great vintage atmosphere.

Was taken here today as a Xmas treat from a friend. We have eaten here before and it was amazing hence the rebooking, how disappointing! My friend paid £50 for what can only be described as 1 (2 slice sandwich cut into 8 tiny fingers and hardly filled), 2 slices of sausage roll, 2 flat, hard, dry scones served with jam and thick cream (not clotted), 2 chocolate strawberries, 2 prepacked mince pies and 4 stale mini cupcake type cakes again straight from the packet. The quantity of food for the price was not acceptable at all. My black coffee was so weak it looked like black tea and had no flavour. Staff were not very attentive, didn't ask if everything was OK, added service charge to the bill and didn't even say goodbye when we left. We will not be visiting again! From somebody who works in the food industry and has previously been asked to provide afternoon tea I am very shocked at the price that was charged for something that would have probably cost £10 in total. I would not recommend this restaurant to anybody

Booked Afternoon tea..for a Christmas treat for a friend..very disappointed..been before and it was lovely so thought it would be good..£50 for 2 dry scones and a slice of cold sausage roll..4 finger sandwiches which were OK but nothing to write home about..4 little pieces of sponge and 2 prepacked mince pies which we didn't eat and paid an extra 3.45 for a latte ..don't mind paying when it's enjoyable but this was pretty awful..now you might say we should have said something but staff weren't making eye contact and didn't ask if everything was OK when we left food on plates..and then had the privilege of paying a gratuity without being asked..won't be going back ?

The staff are still great! But somethings changed… I’ve been coming here for years, and the last 6 months I’ve noticed small changes that seemed to have effected the experience. The roast dinners are not as good anymore, always highly rated in Southend. The cauliflower cheese is awful. Waited so long for my pudding one day I forgot I ordered it. Eggs Benedict was fine until my aunt got to the muffin and she couldn’t get her knife through it… a muffin! The staff are so good and so attentive and they really want to ensure everything is the best it can be l, but sending stuff back on the day is not my style. The experience is already ruined when someone’s dish is cold, hard or late. 3 out of 4 visits in the last 2 months were below average. I would still encourage people to visit and go, you’ll be looked after and maybe I was unlucky, plus my expectations are high because it has always been flawless every single time. I’ll be back in the summer to give petite patanque another try

Took my friend yesterday for lunch. It was her first visit. Apart from enjoying our food, our server was Fab in every respect. We laughed with him from start to finish. What a lovely guy! Can't wait to go back!!

We held an impromptu wedding breakfast at La Petite Petanque. With only 3 weeks notice we were able to organise a perfect afternoon tea and cocktail afternoon. The venue was perfect overlooking the bowling green on a very sunny autumnal day. The staff pulled out all the stops to make the venue look the part and our guests enjoyed lots of laughter whilst devouring the wonderful offerings presented on vintage crockery. Topped off with prosecco and cocktails ... a day to remember. Thank you La Petite Petanque!

Didn't know this place existed until I read an article in The Echo. Really pleased I did. I had the sausage and mash with onion gravy which was delicious my wife had the fish cakes again really nice. Maybe serve on hot plates? For dessert we both had jam roly poly absolutely fab. Two mains, two desserts and two large glasses of nice merlot, £60 - great value. Service is friendly and welcoming. All in all a very enjoyable meal. First time and not the last. Only reason 4 and not 5 stars is that it was a first visit sure next time it will be a 5!

Delicious afternoon tea served on bone china plates. With plenty of tea and coffee throughout the meal. Sandwiches of tuna, egg mayonnaise, cheese and pickle, prawn and crayfish and ham and mustard. Lots of cake to choose from. Would definitely recommend

Stunning Food!!Been waiting to try the Sunday Dinner here. I wasn't disappointed, great service, very little waiting time for such a popular place, Dinner was perfect, well presented and generous, roast potatoes were the best ever, even better than my mother made, home made desert was stunningly good, bill was high but so is the standard - oh! And you get to watch bowls at the same time. Back very soon ?

This is a gorgeous little place. We were visiting our son and his fiancée and they took us here for breakfast yesterday Saturday. The atmosphere is vintage glam, oodles of character, they knew it would be my "cup of tea" and it very much was. If you are looking for a special place to go, this is a treasure gem!
