I had a very bad experience. The staff are very rude and not at all welcoming. Food was ok.

Really friendly staff, very welcoming, and the food was superb. My t-bone steak was perfectly cooked, and the sauce was lovely.

We went on a Tuesday evening so the restaurant was quiet but we were happy with the lovely background music and making our own atmosphereThe food was sublime - steaks that just melted in your mouth - all cooked to perfection and excellent value for money. Lovely crispy triple cooked chips and a super bottle of Malbec.Service was friendly and generous and I can wholeheartedly recommend Grill 49 without hesitation ❤️

The best place we've been for a steak in Cheltenham, and we've been to most of them.

Great place to eat. Friendly manager and staff, we had our Christmas works meal here. I could not fault the food or was cooked to perfection, and the drink was nice too. If you want to take a partner for a cosy meal or a party of Friends, you will not go wrong in visiting Grill 49

I was one of a party of 4 when we visited Grill 49 last weekend. We enjoyed 3 delicious courses of food, even though 2 of us needed to amend our food courses because a group of golfers who had dined at Grill 49 the night before had consumed all of their stock of king prawns and swordfish.Service was good, staff were attentive and, as already mentioned, the food was delicious. My main was a fillet steak, cooked medium rare, with triple cooked chips and peppercorn sauce. I won't be afraid to order the same when we return in the future.

There are better places for an evening out. The restaurant was empty and therefore no real atmosphere or ambience. The steaks were cooked well but the accompanying sauces did not appear homemade, as peppercorn sauce is very easy this was disappointing. Triple cooked chips should not resemble frozen chips out of a fryer but they did. Always good to try something new but hopefully this review saves you from a poor experience.

After being seated, a staff member commented that we really should have booked ahead however the restaurant was quite literally empty which left us feeling like we shouldn’t be there. We were offered lager and cider on draught however we could clearly hear the cans being opened in the kitchen. The steaks are served with a handful of salad and not the sautéed Mediterranean veg and tomato as advertised. When we queried this the staff apologised and brought a bowl of what looked like a frozen microwave veg bag. The menu doesn’t make a lot of sense. Offering to upgrade to sweet potato fries for £1.99, however the steak doesn’t come with fries to begin with so I guess the upgrade was on thin air. Steak was cooked ok, however the meal came to almost £40 each (including a cheeky surcharge). Don’t waste your time. There must be a lot better steak restaurants in Cheltenham.

This is my first review of a restaurant as I have never felt the need to before however the experience we had tonight was appalling.Despite making a reservation (and calling at 2pm on the day) we were greeted to be told there had been a mix up and they were only expecting one table (a different group) but they would try their best anyway. We were then seated in the “private dining area” which was in the back room next to the toilets and with a horrific draught (the majority of my table had to keep their coats on for the duration). The food then took a long time to arrive and was severely disappointing. The menu states “ All G49 steaks are sourced, 28 days matured and served with sautéedMediterranean vegetables, & balsamic glazed tomato” however we received a portion of a Tesco bistro salad and seasoning spread across the plate (see photo). We then received our sides & sauces (spread across 10 minutes from the first person receiving theirs) and it got even worse (to quote one of the party, “I’m waiting for Ant & Dec to walk out”); The garlic butter was about 15ml of melted butter, the peppercorn was being rationed (15ml is a generous estimate). The steaks were very poor quality despite the waiter telling me he had been to the butchers (I’m confident it was a Tesco steak at best) and my £30 T-Bone (which the waiter said he thought he could make without the bone) was 1 and 1/2 rump steaks of a poor quality. One guest asked for the only advertised vegetarian option but was told they didn’t have it so opted for the Jerk Chicken Burger. The “burger” arrived as multiple parts of a chicken (wing, breast & thigh) coated in a ridiculously spicy peri sauce on a panini bun. It was so spicy that they were left to eat the non saucy parts of the bread.I appreciate they were understaffed but the food was disgustingly poor and very overpriced. To also have to sit in a room where the temperature was ridiculously low is almost insulting.I would thoroughly urge anyone to avoid this restaurant at all costs (McDonalds is 0.4miles up the road).Vegetarian options: One option on the menu and it was unavailable.

Got taken to this restaurant by friends on my stag do.Initially the waiter took our drinks order and completly missed one of my friends (there were 6 of us so not a huge order)We then ordered food. We all went for the same steak (ribeye) and two of our number went for calamari as a starter. The food was fantastic, the calamari was crisp and the steak was delicious.However. 1 of our number ordered his steak well done and when it first came out it was rare, upon asking for this to be cooked to what he had asked for it came out again.....medium rare at best. Additionally another of our number ordered his steak and was left waiting at least 10/15 minutes before his sauce came, whereupon his steak was cold. Additionally, the way the menu is laid out does not make it clear what comes with the steak, the sweet potato fries (while extremly tasty) were given in what I can only describe as disperate portions. One person having overflowing numbers and the others having barely enough to fill a gu pot.To top off this experience, the waiter/manager tried to charge us for an extra person and seemed resistant to the reality of what our bill was. However due to the issues with our orders we did receive a discount.TLDR: Good food, bad waiting and ordering experience

Came in to celebrate our anniversary and we were not disappointed. Starter of the halloumi cheese was a really nice way to start our meal. For mains we had a chicken dish and the ribeye. Both seasoned and cooked perfectly. Finished with a sticky toffee pudding. So pleased with how friendly and helpful the staff was.

We were so disappointed with our visit. This was a birthday treat and we were really looking forward to it during our weekend stay in Cheltenham. When we got to the restaurant we were the first ones there. The manager introduced the waiter for the evening and said it was his first night and he was being trained. We ordered our wine and was told it was unavailable. We chose another instead and that was fine. At this point, there was no issue with the service. Very attentive. However…. As the night progressed and the restaurant filled up, we received our main course. We never saw the trainee or the manager again!!! We waited 40 minutes for somebody to come back to us after we had finished our meal and drinks. We had to ask them to come to us and we asked for the bill and to see the manager. We would have liked a dessert, but the moment had passed by this stage. I politely informed the manager that if you have a trainee you need to have somebody by their side to train them. Listening to other tables ordering their food, there were many choices unavailable and wrong meals being delivered. Such a shame as we couldn’t fault the food. Not quite the birthday meal we had planned!!!

If this review was just based on the food then it would be 5 stars, but when you add in the service, the decor, the atmosphere etc it only just scrapes a 3. The menu board outside is filthy and covered in cob webs which is enough to put people off alone, but once you’re inside the whole place is very tired and in desperate need of a revamp to bring it into the 21st century. The service was also very poor, we had to ask for cutlery after our food was served amongst other issues. The menu says the steaks are served with Mediterranean veg but all we got were a few leaves and when we asked where our veg was they said that’s only in the winter! Why not have a summer menu as well then? They’re only printed on a sheet of paper not carved in gold. There’s no real atmosphere in there either which is a shame because the steaks were amazing, but then you go to the toilets and see the tiles on the wall nearly falling off and remember where you are again. This place could be one of the best places in Cheltenham if it was refurbished nicely and cleaned up a bit and they hired a couple of experienced waiters/waitress’s .

Were the only diners until another couple arrived much later so lacked atmosphere. A number of food and wine items on menu not available. Sensed that some elements of the dish ( salad, etc.) were shop-bought.

Every little helps… We went here for my fathers 50th birthday that we pre-booked and was told when we got there that they was fully booked even though there was only one other table that was occupied. They eventually decided that they could make “room” for us. We ordered our food and ended up waiting over an hour. Whilst we was waiting we noticed that one of the employees was going in and out a lot and came back with a Tesco’s carrier bag… our steaks suddenly appeared about 15 minutes later. When the steak was served it was supposed to be served with Mediterranean vegetables… we did not have this and instead had steak with a tiny bit of lettuce as shown in photo! This steak cost £25! To top it off one of the waiters dropped a whole pint of beer at the back of us which landed on the backs of our legs! Truly disappointed, I never usually make negative reviews like this but feel as though people should be aware before thinking about booking this place.
