Turtle Bay Cheltenham
Corner of Pittville &, Albion St, CheltenhamFood was decent, most of them have some sort of spice to it so the waitress did mention to let them know if we can’t take spicy. Happy hour cocktail was really worth it; we got 2 for 1 promo. We tried three cocktails and a mocktail but the best was the passion martini.

Prithvi
Prithvi 37, Bath Rd, CheltenhamThis is by any standards a top restaurant. With friends for the Lit Fest who eat out/ fine dine UK/internationally. Their view - “best Indian restaurant we have ever been to” No - best restaurant” We were delighted to have brought them here. As always, really excellent service ( knowledgeable about food and wine without pretentiousness). A lovely relaxed warm team.

East India Cafe
103 Promenade, CheltenhamLovely atmosphere - small and cosy with warm, low lighting. Expect to spend more but for an overall higher quality experience. The food is very impressive and tasty. Both the texture and taste was extremely good for all dishes I tried. There were fewer options than a typical Indian restaurant but everything I tasted was delicious. Small extras were provided between our courses which was a nice bonus. The staff were very attentive (and very polite) and it was very easy to get attention whenever we wanted. Very pleasant evening!Current parking restrictions are only up to 6pm so if driving here for dinner then there are lots of on street spaces available all down Montpellier street, for free.Parking: Current parking restrictions are only up to 6pm so if driving here for dinner then there are lots of on street spaces available all down Montpellier street, for free.

Revival Cafe Bar & Grill, Restaurant
5-7 Winchcombe St, CheltenhamIt was cosy and warm (cold night) and they served me a great steak. It has comfortable seating and good service so I reckon it deserves 4 stars. I nearly dropped them a star because they served a Gin & Tonic for my wife without lemon (had to ask) and there was no alternative to slimline tonic (yuk). I'll give them the benefit of the doubt this time but if it happens again, definitely going down a star.

The Gloucester Old Spot
Tewkesbury Rd, Piffs Elm, CheltenhamWe love Sunday roast here but celebrated my birthday last Saturday and had a chance to try other dishes we hadn’t tried before. Limited choices on the main menu but don’t forget to look at the lovely specials on the board.Great quality of food with produce from local farms but also come with a price. For £19.50, I would expect two sea bass fillets. They compensated the dish with a crab meat and prawn spring roll cut into two pieces. Some may like it but if I wanted sea bass, I preferred 2 fillets than 1 with a spring roll.We had a dog with us, so always sat in the bar area. Staff ok, more like trainees in the bar area, probably more professional in the main dining room.10% service charge we understood, not many people carry cash nowadays.

Rotunda Tavern
3 Montpellier St, CheltenhamThis was the surprise of my week in Cheltenham for the Jazz Festival. I had ignored it on my previous visits because it never really came up on the beer radar but was passing by and saw four ales advertised on the exterior board and decided to take a look and glad I did. My primary reason for visiting was because of its location dead opposite Montpellier gardens, which is the hub for the Jazz Festival with its three main concert venues and the large festival bar. The Festival Bar this year was sponsored and run by Purity, and as much as I am partial to a pint of UBU, I’m not going to pay the Festival price of £6.70 a pint. The pub has a traditional dark wood panelled interior which was formerly two rooms but now opened up into a main bar area and a connected room opposite. Each section is wooden floored and has a flat screen tele for the sports. It looks quite lived in in parts but the seating areas are comfortable. It has two vistas, the main entrance, which is on the main road facing the gardens and benefits from a large pavement area which is utilised as the outside space for the pub. It’s a lovely sun trap spot but you do get the world and his wife walking past. Then there is a second back entrance from Montpellier Street behind and this side has four outside bench seats along the pavement section. The bar supports four handpumps and during my visits Salopian Oracle and Otter Bitter were on all the time and Goffs Jester no 4 NZ Pale Ale, Goffs Cheltenham Gold, Butcombe Haka and Stroud Brewery Tom Long rotated on the other two. The Salopian Oracle was a fine pint and I tended to stay on this but did try the Otter Bitter and the Goffs Jester no 4 which were perfectly fine but not to my taste as much as the oracle. This is a very friendly pub and is epitomised by who I assumed to be the Landlord and Landlady who are helpfulness and cheeriness personified and a clearly running a decent wet led pub (the only food on offer are toasted Paninis and baps). The only negative for me was that the Gents are in the basement down a very steep set of steps and after a couple I decided to use the toilets in the Festival site rather than risk the descent.

DEYA Mixed Fermentation Taproom
Unit 33/34, Lansdown Industrial Estate, Gloucester Rd, CheltenhamIf you are in the region trying some DEYA beers in the main taproom, then you really mustn't miss out on this little mixed fermentation side brewery just round the corner. Around 7 or 8 beers available on draught all brewed a little differently but with amazing results! Best Restaurants

Memsahib's Lounge
47 - 49 Promenade, CheltenhamNo better way than spending a couple of hours on a Sunday afternoon than sampling the “Experience” tasting menu. Service is prompt and efficient whilst the Maitre d’ is on hand to tell you the history of the establishment. Particular highlights are the Chicken Samosa and The Indian Railway style Mutton on the Bone Curry. They even have there own Blonde Session Beer! What’s not to like - particularly on your birthday?

Spencers Cafe, 10 Winchcombe St, CheltenhamThis is where my wife and I will always go for refreshments whenever we are in Cheltenham. This may well consist of a full breakfast for myself as it is very filling and cooked to perfection. It also keeps me going via all the shops my wife likes to visit! Service is very professional, and we are always greeted with a smile. The constant footfall to this cafe is a testament to how popular it is.
