I chose the Eight Bells for my husband's birthday dinner after having read very positive reviews. It staryed well with a very nice soup. However, the steak pie was rated average by my husband. He knows his pie. Fairly small portion too. As for my "fish and chip" i left most of it. Dry very unappetizing batter,,. Dry fish, greasy chips. Left all the peas. At that price, really expected something decent. I do not recommend.

This pub is a great place to base yourself for a stay in the Cotswolds. Located within the shadow of St. James's Church at the eastern end of Chipping Campden, it is in a quiet spot but everything in the village is easily within walking distance. Parking can be an issue. There is no dedicated car park for the inn and it is all on-street parking. Visiting at the end of November, we had no issues finding a spot near the inn but I can imagine in the height of the season, this could be a problem. We stayed for two nights and ate in the restaurant on one of those nights. The breakfast is cooked fresh-to-order and portions are utterly sufficient to set one up for the day. Dinner too was very good to the extent that a stroll around the village was required afterwards to aid digestion! The bar area is typically that of a country pub. There is a roaring fire in the season and the range of well-kept cask ales is impressive. The staff are all friendly souls and we were made to feel like very welcome guests and not merely transient travellers. Our room (no. 1) was wonderfully warm and the bed was supremely comfortable. The bathroom was a generous size and the shower was such that one lingered longer than one normally would. Both room and bathroom were impeccably clean. I have no hesitation in recommending the Eight Bells Inn.

We stayed for 2 nights and ate in the restaurant both nights. What really stood out was the quality of the service with friendly and attentive staff.

We were lucky to get a table on a rainy December day! After walking around the adorable town of Chipping Camden, we took a break for lunch here based on a Rick Steves guidebook recommendation. It was a great choice! The food was excellent, they had a nice selection of beers and the atmosphere quintessentially English!

Recent visit, having been several times before. It's a true country pub in the middle of a lovely Cotswold town. Food, staff, and drinks were excellent as always, and the place looks lovely done up for Christmas. Will always be a must visit whenever we're around town. Looking forward to seeing you again!

Arrived & was shown to our room by a charming girl, well mannered and explained everything perfectly. The room was ‘ok’. A little cool, the slats under the bed were out, the light above the dressing table mirror didn’t work and the shower was very weak in giving us water!! But, it was for one night and was comfy enough. We dumped our bags and went to the bar. Again, 2 lovely girls serving, drinks were spot on as was the service. We’d booked a table for dinner, we both went for the most expensive item on the menu (Lamb) and to be honest it wasn’t great. The lamb itself had been mashed up and rolled which required seasoning. The mashed potatoes had been left under a hot lamp and had a skin on top, the highlight of the meal was the carrots, which says it all! I told the waitress and she apologised. It was a meagre amount too for the price, so I ordered a dessert, which was very nice. We received the bill, not a penny deducted, which in the circumstance would have been at least a gesture, but me being me, still left a tip (not really the fault of the waitress that the chef isn’t great!) We had breakfast the next morning which again was ok. Note to chef, if you burst an egg, don’t cover it up with a non-bursted one as it will be seen! It’s an ok place, not expensive to stay there, but food wise it’s a no from us.

A lovely Sunday lunch and great service but there were only two slices of beef and a small portion of vegetables for £21 ! I would like to return but it’s a bit too expensive for the amount of food served.

Great place to stay. We had a 2 night break in late Nov '23. We are a couple in our late 50's. Can't rate it highly enough. Great accommodation, the bed and pillows were some of the best we'd slept in, so much so we asked who made them. We were on B&B basis and really enjoyed the breakfast. What I call a proper English in that all the bases are covered and cooked to perfection and not swimming in fat/oil. Crusty bread toast too. Didn't have evening meals here as we were meeting family for pre-arranged food elsewhere. Big shout out to Ben and the rest of the staff who were personable and attentive without being over the top! I've visited Chipping Camden many times over the years, it's pretty iconic, especially if you don't come from those parts. A great base for exploring the rest of The Costwolds.

Dinner was lovely, really tasty food. Unfortunately the room, number 6, was not. The room and bed are fine, however, the bathroom is just not fit for purpose. It’s feels like the shower and toilet have been squeezed into a space that should be a wardrobe. You can’t open the shower door all the way as the bathroom is so small the door hits the toilet. The showers water pressure is also non existent and does not stay at a consistent temperature. Luckily for us we had family members staying in room 7 so we would use their shower.

We were visiting The Cotswolds from Australia and wanted to enjoy a Sunday roast. We called in around 11 in the morning and made a booking for 2.30 that afternoon. We could not have picked a better pub. The fire was on, it was cosy and a great atmosphere. Most importantly the staff were so friendly making us feel so welcome. The Sunday roast? Amazing, 10/10. Don’t drive by this place.

Fantastic food in a great setting. All the staff were super friendly, even during a busy Friday night period.

The 8 bells is a gem of a pub. We had a perfect table by the fire, the waiters and waitresses were attentive and couldn’t be more helpful. The pub was packed but the food arrived quickly and was delicious. I had the steak which was lovely. The one criticism is that it would have been helpful is to have a steak knife with my steak. We had such a fun evening and would definitely recommend and definitely go back again.

Had a lovely evening meal at the Eight bells on a quiet Tuesday .This was our second visit as we’d been impressed previously The pub has a lovely ambience with warming open fires and mellow stone interior. Very friendly welcome on arrival, great choices on the menu including a delicious pheasant dish and super-tasty linguine (our choices) Great choice of nice ales and the house Shiraz (16 stops from mclaren vale) was about the best house wine I’ve tasted. We were looked after by Gemma who was absolutely great- friendly and right on top of things without “overdoing it” Great place, food and staff…can’t wait to visit again.
