We stopped by to have abit of lunch and wow, cannot wait to go back. We had the squid as a sharing nibble and was the best squid we've had. I had ham, egg and chips which was delicious and the hubby had sausages and mash and that was just as delicious (I pinched some) ?

First time returning since it's been taken over. We'll definitely be back!!!It was busy, and the manager told us there'd be a short wait on food because there were some larger tables ahead of us. We almost went elsewhere as the kids were starving... but very glad we didn't.The food is fantastic! Kids' menu options were really nice, and devoured. The pastrami sandwich which came with skinny fries was the best I've had outside of New York! The team that work at the Golden Cross were brilliant - friendly, attentive even as they got increasingly busier. As said, we'll definitely be back. Some of the other good looked incredible and can't wait to try it.

Been to this pub a few times and usually the barman is friendly, however the last time we came he was very rude. We came in for a quick drink and as we had our toddler with us and we asked the barman for a teaspoon as our son wanted his toddler yoghurt. The barman started being quite rude saying that they do kids food and said next time don’t bring toddler/baby food in here and order off the menu as they are a food pub!! I told him that our child is fussy and has specific dietary requirements and the fact he is only 3 and he was still rude even though we had spent money at the bar. They are very accommodating for dogs in the pub but obviously not children!! I find this completely bizarre and such an odd thing to say, does he say this to families with new borns that are Breast feeding or formula fed??This is so sad as we do normally come here for a drink with our son however after this comment we shall not be visiting again and will be going somewhere more excepting of a 3 year old!!

Lovely pub with a log burner, great on a cold and windy day. Not a huge choice on the menu but more than enough, everything cooked fresh, nicely presented and very tasty, I can recommend the chicken, leek and mushroom pie. Service could not be faulted; cheerful, friendly and very helpful. Thank you from five "little old ladies", you made our dayNearby activities: Lots of boutique style shops, all whin a short walk of the pubFood & drinks: Excellent home cooked food

Entered pub at 1.20pm was seated at table 1.30pm as booked. Nobody came to serve us until 2pm that was because we enquired then waitress was abrupt. Food arrived 2.45pm - only because yet again asked where it was. Food was tasty but Luke warm. The bill arrived and they tried charging us for drinks not purchased. Customer service 1/10. Waiters/WaItresses didn’t seem to have a clue .

We had an amazing Sunday lunch here last weekend. From the moment you step foot in The Golden Cross, the customer service is exceptional. The Sunday roast was the best roast I've had. Everything was cooked to perfection, with highlights being the creamed leeks, whole carrot cooked with star anise and succulent meat (I went for the trio, belly pork, beef and chicken). The pub is warm and welcoming, and the cleanliness is top-notch. Dog friendly and located centrally in the town.Definitely ranks up there with some of the Michelin Star restaurants I've eaten at!
