My wife and myself ate there . I had a vegetarian main meal which was a celeriac steak , ( perfect consistency) with mashed potatoes ,spinach, and the most PERFECT tasting brown sauce/coulis/ gravy that I’ve ever had . I just wish I new what was in it so my wife could make it for me. Literally the BEST vegetarian meal I’ve eaten ( and I’ve eaten in the “Orrery “ in Marylebone London , The Waterside at Bray , and Raymond Blanc restaurants. ) my wife had ‘Hot smoked Trout “ which was beautiful. I tried to speak to the chef after the meal , unfortunately his wife ( who served us ) said he was having a shower having finished for the evening. The man ( I think he’s wife said his name was John ) is a chef of the highest quality. I’d like to see Jay Rayner review the place . I shall go down to the Forest of Dean again just to eat there . We went to the White Horse after reading the reviews thinking it would be a nice treat for my husband and son’s birthdays. We went for the sirloin beef which was £5 dearer than the topside, thinking it must be more tender. When it came the beef was so tough we couldn’t cut it leave alone chew it. When the waitress came to clear away the plates she asked it everything was alright with the meal and not being the type to make a fuss we quietly told her the beef was really tough. She said she would tell the chef (no apology). The main courses were £23.50 each. When we asked for the bill we think it was the manageress who came to take our payment but she didn’t say a word and just took the full amount. I was so disappointed as it was supposed to be a nice treat. When I got home I sent an email, explaining that I don’t like making a fuss in a restaurant and telling them how disappointed I was. I have not even had the decency of a reply.

Been here a number of times but this time the experience was first class. Made very welcome nice table roaring log burner. The two real ales were perfect while the meal was to put it simply superb. Liver was good quality and cooked perfectly. Smoked trout, caught by chef and smoked by him also, sublime. Such a treat after Xmas-not your usual pub grub but step above and more special.

Visited this pub for an evening meal for a birthday celebration. It's far to say we can be 'picky' eaters but we had nothing bad to say about the food. It was one of the nicest meal we have had in some time and would definitely recommend and return. I would say the menu is slightly limited and the price is higher than the average meal out BUT the food was outstanding and the quality of the products were amazing. 10/10. Dessert was delicious - would definitely recommend the brownie

By far the best pub/ food in the forest. Two menus, one with the regulars, and one changes daily/ weekly. The food is cooked to perfection. The staff are brilliant and the dogs are adorable. Lovely warm and cosy atmosphere, with the log burners on cold days. This pub has become our regular .

First time here and after reading reviews we decided to visit. We were not disappointed. We were made very welcome and were seated in their cosy dining room. We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 course dinner which was very well presented and tasted just as good as it looked . We would definitely recommend the White Horse and will most certainly return.
