Welcoming staff and a pub with a warm atmosphere. The menu at the pub is more extensive than that shown on the website, which is great as long as you didn't want the pork belly!!

My family ate here last Saturday. The burgers and trimmings were great. I had the vegan wellington but it was a quite dry but with soft/soggy pastry - more sauce or gravy would have been good. My son had a medium rare steak - it was undercooked for his liking - they offered a new one or to cook the one he had longer - he had it cooked longer but said afterwards it was a bit below expectations. The staff were lovely and helpful. We asked if tips go to the staff and were told since new management had recently taken, over staff only got 50% of the tips! I wanted to tip the staff not the management. It will soon be illegal for management to do this, but the sooner they change that the better.

We only went here for a meal. We turned up without a booking, looking for meals for 4 adults and 3 children. There was no issue, and the meals were a good size and great value. Will call again

We went for a meal here when visiting the area. Very good pub food, huge portions. Lovely staff and good service. It's definitely worth a visit. Can't comment on the rooms as we did not stay there, and I can't really comment on the location as we were driven there by friends and it was dark, but the whole area is stunning in daylight!

On a visit to this pub with family yesterday, we were shocked and appalled by the unsettling reception we received. There was a rowdy group of men and women (who were obviously under the influence of alcohol/narcotics) sitting at the table, nearest the door/bar. As we walked to the bar, the party began loudly and aggressively jeering us for no reason. As we waited to be served, these individuals continued jeering, staring and mimicking both me and my female companion. Staff appeared oblivious or chose to ignore what was happening right under their noses. We felt extremely intimidated and threatened by this thuggish behaviour. I quietly and discreetly suggested to my companion that we left. The two men of the group (who were obviously eavesdropping) began loudly mimicking my voice and comments. As I left, I informed the group that we were leaving owing to the discomfort that their behaviour had caused. Their response was a loud and F-bomb laden tirade of verbal abuse. Again, there was no intervention by staff to this yobbish. obnoxious and abusive behaviour, which could be heard even when we had exited the premises. I am just thankful that the rest of my family, including my children were not present at the bar to witness this disgraceful (and frankly confusing) incident that felt like playground bullying. I will not be returning and will spread the word that the Woodsman is not the place to visit if you’re looking for a family-orientated pub, where you feel safe and respected.

Although they offered some gluten free alternatives with pizza or burgers on gf products there was nothing else gluten free. So I ended up just eating chips . Very very disappointed ☹️ I won't be going back.
