Called in tonight for cod £8 chips peas curry , lovely service , fast friendly, fish was 10/10, chips 10/10 really tasty , curry 10/10 , mushy peas 3/10 sorry but they weren’t great. However I have to say it was the best fish and chips I’ve had for quite some time and I tend to have fish and chips in the fox / the slaughters and the other well known restaurants. Fantastic chippy . Well worth every penny . Thanks

Had many a bag of chips from here and never been disappointed. Just the sort of comfort food that is needed after a walk around the town. Plenty of benches to sit at along the green, or sit on the steps of the war memorial, and enjoy the envious glares from the passing traffic as everyone is trying, and failing, to rush through the town. Great work, Mermaid Fish Bar :)

I’ve had fish and chips from here a few times, so feel I can give a genuine review. First queues are ridiculous long, this must be partly down to the fact they take big orders over the phone, so people queuing have to wait for these orders to be fulfilled. The batter is always too thick and undercooked, soggy inside. Sometimes the fish is fresher than at other times but today I had fish that was not nice, nearly off I think! Don’t think I will go again.

Amazing fish and chips , well worth the 7 mile journey and the queues. Hot, fresh, tasty. Highly recommended.

I love everything about this place. The atmosphere is s quaint, the food was delicious and the staff were helpful and friendly. This was my first experience with fish and chips during my trip to the UK from the US. I don’t normally eat fish but this was absolutely delicious!

Best Fish and Chips in the North Cotswolds, Worth travelling 10 miles for. The usual queue out the door say it all.

It’s Friday early evening and just finished my fish and chips after waiting in a 20 minute queue.Unfortunately after reading many reviews and mostly positive my review is not as favourable. Both the cod were quite crunchy and dry inside. Such a shame as my son and I were really looking forward to a lovely fish and chips.I wanted the batter to be light and crispy and the fish soft and flaking inside.Staff were pleasant enough. Curry sauce pot a little small. Chips were nice and hot.Wouldn’t return.

Oddly I was there on the same Friday as one of the other reviewers. I also waited 20+ minutes to get served because there was a sizeable queue stretching along the street - which I took as a good sign! We all thought our food was good: crispy batter, moist fish, loads of chips, mushy peas on point, curry sauce tasty and - contrary to another review - the staff were very friendly, especially given how busy it was.One star off for only taking cash though!Anyway, we were there for a campervan rally and often pick up F&C on the way to a site and this one was good enough to have a return visit if we are ever in the area again.

chips just about cooked and very soggy. Fish just OK and chicken piece was very good. Overall wouldn't go back as if you can't do good chips at a chippy that's a bit poor.

This place has got to be the worst chip shop I have ever been to. It lets the whole town down really think it’s time to down tools and let someone else give customers some decent chips! The chips are absolutely disgusting cheap and the portions are laughable. The staff are rude and obnoxious. They microwave half the stuff and watched them reheating chicken in the microwave. The only reason they have custom is it is the only place here and there taking advantage of that with prices.

Delicious fish and chips! I come here anytime I'm in the Cotswolds. They have all the trimmings and they don't mind making me crispy chips! It's a winner for me

Ok, Batter too thick. Chips soggy. Long ques. Portions vary tremedously in size. staff very busy and crack on with dispensing.

Utter slop, grease overload, cold chips, dry chicken, probably the worst chippy I've ever been to in a long time, miserable woman serving too, Avoid
