Very disappointed overall, not a good vegetarian menu, my wife chose the plant based burger with crispy bacon, only to be told they had run out of bacon!! Also a couple of other vegetarian meals were not on the menu, they had also run out!

We went for cream tea, we got the tea within a few minutes of sitting down but the scone didn't arrive for approx 15 mins by which time our drinks were finished. Disappointing as we had exactly same experience almost a month earlier!

My evening meal of Filet of Cod at the Stonehouse Court Brasserie was Delicious, rich cream sauce but just how I like it.

Lovely hotel, the main building is stunning with a lovely bar, restaurant and terrace area. Food was very good. Gorgeous grounds and nearby canal area. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Most rooms are in an adjacent building, the decoration and quality of furniture and bathroom was good but our rooms was set below ground level with one small window so it was quite dark. Our booking was with a Virgin experience voucher which I suspect results in you having a poorer room.

Really lovely and quiet afternoon tea. Staff were accommodating in providing a high chose for our baby and very friendly too. The afternoon tea selection was brilliant and came away very pleased with our choice to go there. Already recommended to many of our friends and family.

Was very disappointed, ordered the pizzas which usually are very nice, after about 10min of ordering we were told pizza oven was broke, which is fine but we should have been told at time of ordering!! Had to reorder food which was very disappointing.

We sat on the Terrace and enjoyed our lunch. It was our first visit and we perhaps chose an unfortunate day because there was a wedding in the side garden. This did not disturb us in the least, but must have meant that several staff were not on the Terrace. Our impression was that you had recruited some new staff, who were delightful people but were just starting their training so things were a little erratic! The challenges of recruiting staff for the catering sector are well known, so we trust that things will improve. The food was good. The portions copious with tasty and interesting ingredients, well prepared. We will probably return.

My Son booked us a Virgin Experience one night stay and first impressions were amazing. The hotel dated 1601, had all the interior and exterior charm you could hope for with lovely gardens and outdoor seating area. The room was also better than expected with period windows and a Victorian bath. So with all this to enjoy we ventured downstairs for a drink in the bar, prior to our evening meal booked for 7:30pm. Expectations were high especially since checking in and seeing the hotel and grounds. We were then told by the receptionist that the hotel was having gas supply issues, so our only option for our evening meal was to eat locally in one of the pubs or restaurants, keep the receipt and claim the money back. No taxis were available, so one of the managers took us into Stonehouse in their own car instead. The Italian restaurant we chose was like a transport cafe, so we walked 200 yards further down and ended up eating in an Indian Restaurant. They didn’t have an alcohol license, so I went to the local Premier shop to get wine. All of this happened with both of us dressed for a gorgeous hotel dining experience, not an underwhelming local Gloucestershire town. This totally ruined what had started so promisingly. The next morning we had a dreadful help yourself cooked breakfast with only tea plates available. I did get my receipts paid back as cash only because of my complaints, but my questions to the hotel are as follows: Why was no thought given to the worst case scenario of this happening and alternative arrangements? The hotel also had electric ovens, so why couldn’t a reduced menu be provided instead of the ridiculous farce of having to go into Stonehouse? We paid for the complete hotel experience including fine dining in the beautiful wood panelled dining room, not an Indian meal we could have had at home!! I wouldn’t be surprised if this is a regular occurrence and we were palmed off with a pathetic excuse. Sad because the hotel is beautiful, but we will never come back. I never do reviews, but people need to be aware, DON’T GO!!!!
