This is a very bustling pub and it can be difficult to get a table -- even outside-- on busy weekends. Good beers and decent wines. Charming old building. Friendly staff.Kid-friendliness: Kids are certainly welcome during the day. They also have children's portions.

This place was a gem. The service as soon as i opened the door was excellent. The vibe was pleasant and welcoming to locals and foreigners. My wife ordered the lamb rump with mash potatoes and a pea puree, and who knows what other delicious add-ons. I could have liked the plate if it was socially acceptable. This was the best meal we've had in quite some time! The lamb burger I ordered was also a hit. My other family members ordered the sea bass, and it was delicious as well. The menu seems to be changing periodically, but everything we ate was great, so I can't wait to visit again in the future and see what new things they come up with.

A cracking pub all round, nestled in the heart of a chocolate box Cotswold village. The Oak retains some original beautiful features including a central open fireplace, a stunning courtyard that has been cleverly rain proofed and a lovely snug by the bar. The food is delicious and not over priced, the staff and owners are always friendly and the atmosphere is top notch. You can't find better for a sunny afternoon drink, a winter evening meal with friends or a just nipping in for some refreshment while passing by.Wheelchair accessibility: The pub is on one level but sunk below the level of the road outside, the entrance is a tad tricky which has a few steps down through the doors.

We went for lunch, chose from a great menu, then came back the same evening. Had friendly staff & nice Saturday night busy vibe.

Excellent food and service! It was very busy so we sat outside to eat but they eventually brought us inside without us even asking for our food. So delicious!

Best roast I've had in ages! Service was amazing as well, lovely atmosphere. Had absolutely nothing bad to say about any part of the dish, was absolutely delicious and recommend the beef to everyone. :)

Best Sunday roast I've had in a decade or more! From the moment we sat down the service was stellar and the food was perfect. Beef was melt in your mouth, roast potatoes were cooked perfectly and the veg was varied and plentiful. Cherry on top was the flavourful gravy and the lovely atmosphere. If you're in a 30 mile radius it would be worth the trip

Visited on a Saturday lunchtime. Parking is obviously difficult here with the narrow streets, but luckily someone was just leaving when we arrived. Nice inn with two real ales and a selection of lunchtime choices for food. Doesn’t seem to take bookings and it’s fairly small inside n Winter (about 10 tables) so it’s on a first come first served basis. Ham and eggs was great and a reasonable price too.

We popped into The Oak for lunch on our way home to Bath (after reading good reviews online ). We weren't disappointed. Lovely atmosphere with a warm welcome from the bar manager and an open fire (it was a cold day so this was much appreciated). It was busy on a Fri afternoon and it's not a big pub, so we were lucky to find a table for two. The front of house guy/manager was excellent ? He was working alone taking orders, serving behind the bar and waiting tables and he did it all with a smile and courtesy. Food was delicious!!

We stayed in Painswick for 4 nights and never had a bad meal at the Oak. The Sunday roast was so generous and delicious! Food was amazing, fire place so cozy and hospitality just generally on point. Thank you!

Out for a dog walk and found this small but perfectly formed, dog friendly pub that was open for lunch on a Weds. welcomed by a warm fire, cheerful landlady and a simple but superbly well prepared menu we couldn’t have been happier. Great value, great taste and a tasty local pint of ale. All in all an excellent experience and the homemade scotch egg was to die for.
