Nice pub with tons of history. We all had pies, chicken, beef and Stilton and beef and ale. £22 for a pie and a ginger beer. Pastry was lovely and the filling was a good ratio of meat and gravy. Pub was empty and there was some quiet music playing but it was a quiet lunchtime so not much atmosphere. Staff are friendly and there are child/baby friendly facilitiesParking: Parking in the street opposite the pub next to the church.Kid-friendliness: Baby change and enough space for a buggy

Stopped here on the off chance after visiting Down House. Everybody was really friendly, the food was excellent. I would highly recommend the pies. We went on a Sunday but didn't fancy a roast although they looked amasing too. We quite often do hikes and I think we would make sure the route would go via this venue,

We arrived to the pub and was greeted with a very rude lady. There is just no need for it. Don't waste your time going

Our last walk of the year on the 30th Dec 2023, resulted in us having a small refreshment stop here.We were warmly welcomed, upon entering this gem of a traditional pub. The menu looked to be a great choice of the usual pub food. I'll note here that there's a large selection of pies. Which included their Festive December Pie. We weren't hungry on this occasion so chose their basket food, which was reasonably priced and arrived quickly. The rest room facilities were clean and tidy, and I'll note the men's was larger than most for this area. A queue for these would be a rare thing I'd say.In summary a cosy atmosphere, and warm unlike many pubs I've visited recently. I am looking forward to another walk in this area, so I can try out the pies of The George and Dragon.

We went for Sunday lunch after a dog walk. We used to come to the pub quite regularly as a family, but have not been for a few years. It was just as lovely as we remembered.Three of us had the steak and kidney pie. They were absolutely fantastic. Perfect filing, perfect pastry. We also had the roast chicken and the scampi which were also great.Great service when we were booking and when we arrived!!Very comfortable atmosphere and the dog was welcome. We will be back very soon for the Christmas Pie.

Nice cosy place next to the Christmas Tree Farm. The food was okay and the place is suitable for babies and kids.

Kitchen lady was very nice & accommodating as there wasn't a nearby shop!

Bar is very welcoming and ‘cosy’. Food is excellent, famous for their unique homemade pies. I had the Game pie, very filling and had a full tasty experience. Chicken and leek was much ‘lighter’, again an excellent choice. Service is very good and professional. Good selection of beers. Certainly worth visiting. Darwin’s birthplace. Parking can be tricky at times. Best book in advance. Highly recommended.

I have been going to this pub for years when in the area. The Sunday lunch is an absolute steal with buffet style accompaniments all homemade and really good quality.

Travelled to Downe to visit this pub as it was highly recommended only to find out it is CLOSED! Very disappointed! Please update your opening hours to avoid disappointment for others!

Everything you would expect from a quaint old pub in the Kent countryside

I was very disappointed. It could be a lovely pub, but there was only one person inside and 2 outside. We had been to the Christmas tree farm with the baby. The bar person's were very welcoming and friendly, but unfortunately the food was a letdown. I had sausage mash and garden peas. I didn't like the sausage they were hard and gritty texture. One of the sausages was stale. It had obviously been stored in the fridge and had dried out hard, or it was past its date , it didn't taste nice. The three sausages were all different. The peas were dry and hard. The kids' meal was a frozen chigao town mini pizza, and a few chips cost £5.50 rip-off. I was also given a glass with a chip and a crack in it. I wouldn't recommend the food. I definitely won't be eating in there again...
