We went on boxing day and the place was fairly quiet at about 1pm. The staff were nice enough but seemed a little flustered and low. Didn't have the right vibe for that time of year. We've been to previous Toby carvery on boxing day before and those places had crackers on the table and staff always felt festive. Not a bad experience but not memorable.

Absolutely horrendous. I have never experienced such poor and rude service. You have to laugh at one example of my mum asking for more mint sauce and the waiter said "I'm busy at the moment" I couldn't believe my ears. Stood at the bar with 4 members of staff for about 5 minutes and no one even acknowledged me while the messed around re stocking a sticker box and chatting. Found the food area grubby and the food not very warm. A very poor example of a Toby carvery and won't go back to this one again. I will be writing to Toby head office.

Disappointing Experience at Watermillock Toby Carvery BoltonMyself and my family recently visited Watermillock Toby Carvery Bolton and, unfortunately, the experience was subpar. The food on the servery appeared to have been left out for an extended period, resulting in dry meats and a lack of fresh options. Despite our request for fresher items, none were available. Additionally, the prolonged wait at the servery, with staff engaged in conversation in the other bar area, added to our dissatisfaction. Regrettably, this experience has deterred us from considering a return to Watermillock Toby Carvery Bolton or any Toby Carvery establishment.

Excellent carvery from Toby Carvery Bolton. If you’ve not been to this Toby before it’s well worth a visit just to look at the building! Jude was our server and was extremely attentive and knowledgeable about the building. Make sure you find him when you come!

This is always such a nice carvery. The food is really good and the service is excellent. The staff are always very welcoming, friendly and professional. Special mention to Jude our waiter for his cheerful, friendly polite manner.

We pre-booked a table in advance. On arrival we were placed in the middle of the corridor despite many vacant tables in both rooms. We were told that the tables were reserved and refused to relocate our party to a more convenient location. 2 hours later when we were ready to leave , the tables close to us were still unoccupied.

35mins in and still no drinks or the starters we ordered haven't materialised. We were told 20mins ago to go to the carvery station if we were hungry. We have since queued up to the mostly empty carvery station and eaten our dinner and now we're sat here watching the staff saunter around doing nothing. There's only 4 other tables seated and nobody manning the bar. Absolutely atrocious. Never coming again. Travelled 45mins to get here as we heard the building was beautiful and it was a good carvery. Never again. Floor manager absolutely useless asking staff what's happening and has no bearings at all I'm the restaurant. There's cutlery on the floor and tables not cleared for guests that left before we got here. What a shame

Although the building is beautiful the food was very poor. Besides the carrots and stuffing all the carvery food was cold. Peas and parsnips were very dry. Barely anything was replenished and the beef was mainly fat. Very disappointing as we regularly use Toby Carvery throughout the UK (at least twice a month) and I have never been this disappointed. All we were offered was to “reheat” our food which obviously meant they only intended to microwave it which would have made it even drier. Very disappointing.

For a Christmas Day experience I was really disappointed with the service. We felt rushed and the staff just looked miserable. There was no spirit at all! I chose this place for our special day as I have no family to share it with. We arrived 10 mins late, and I get it that we should have been on time but we paid a fortune per head so we assumed that would be our table for the afternoon, wrong, business is business to these people. No sooner had we sat at the table, hadn’t taken our coats off or had our drinks ordered our starters were dumped in front of us. One of our party hadnt even had his chance to get his carvery because ‘he missed his slot’. My children were eating their deserts, when they came and said we had to leave because the next booking had arrived. Food was nice though and the meat server was fun and friendly but everyone else were miserable. Absolutely deflated and won’t be returning for our Christmas Day again.

Very quiet for Boxing Day evening, meant we weren’t rushed in being served at the carvery and were able to pass pleasantries with the staff without feeling they needed to rush off. Beautifully decorated for Christmas. Such a lovely building to dine in.

Deciding to try Toby Carvery for our Christmas Dinner was definitely the best way to go. Service was excellent even with them being busy and all staff were polite and attentive. All of the food was delicious, served piping hot, fresh and thoroughly enjoyable. Dessert was decadent. It was a lovely experience. The decorations were beautiful the atmosphere was great. I think the staff deserve some well earned recognition, pulling off such seamless service on Christmas day - hats off to them!
