I visit The Hare & Hounds once every year or so when I return home to visit family. On this occasion it really was very poorly managed. Easter Friday afternoon & you had 1 bartender on when we ordered our first round of drinks. He earns you the 1 star rating because I felt so sorry for him. He was constantly getting order after order & he remained polite & got through it. But to have 1 staff member on. That's beyond poor! People have been flocking to the low for Easter weekend as far back as I can remember. Staffing should be a crucial part of that. By the time we eventually convinced ourselves to get another round, things seemed to have slightly improved as 2 people were behind the bar. We ordered, took 80% of our order to the table & were told they would bring a tea & cappuccino over when it was ready! 20 minutes later after asking again, we received the order of tea. But no cappuccino. We waited in total 45 minutes for a cup of cappuccino. Could have nipped to Costa & back in that time! When it finally came we already had coats on & we're headed out the door. The lady told us it was ready, we explained we were leaving. So we got a refund for the cappuccino & left. The staff you had on seemed friendly, but overwhelmed. Staffing levels in a pub like that cannot be compromised & someone, somewhere is getting that very very wrong!

The place is really nice with a brilliant view of Manchester. The atmosphere is great and I highly recommend it.

Unbelievably poor. I had the Bistro steak. It was fatty, chewy and tasteless. My plate was an over sized portion of leaves, cucumber strips and chips. The chips tasted like warmed up chips from the local chippy's dinner time service. I had a voucher for £25 so i only paid £38. If I'd have paid full price, £63, I'd have been fuming. £63 and we only had 3 mains, one was a kids meal.. no starters or desserts. Dreadful

Have removed previous review as related to previous owners, as couldn't do a new review.First time have been back since being taken over. Now have a very nice covered outdoor area now with heaters, overlooking a great view of Manchester.Still have great food and really friendly staff.Very dog friendly. When doing a reservation let them know if you have a dog. I did this just meant for anyone booking not aware. They still do food for your dog, sausage, think said chicken could be wrong, also do ice cream.Highly recommend

6 of us enjoyed a meal & the atmosphere at the Hare & Hounds on 19th March ‘24.The food was deliciously cooked by Cal & beautifully presented. We were served efficiently by Diane, who took care to take on board all our personal requirements. Thank you to all.

Lovely location and staff but £9 for a large glass of very mediocre wine is extortionate tbh.

First time having lunch at the hare and hounds today with my sister and we were both awfully disappointed in the food. It’s a really lovely environment with beautiful views from the top of the hill but the food really let us down. Starving after a 2 hour hike we ordered the steak sandwich and the cheese toastie. After waiting 40 minutes for the food to come, the steak sandwich only had two pieces of cremated fatty steak in it and the cheese toastie seemingly had no cheese in it (picture attached). No cutlery was brought over and when asked for cutlery it felt like it was a hassle to do so and was only brought over one knife and fork and no tissues. Lovely place for a drink but would not recommend lunch.
Saw a dog wee up the brick pillar at the side of the bar. Dogs are allowed in the main dining area. Saw a person walk through the dining area with a dog in a blanket in their arms. Burger and potatoes under the table we were seated at. Food nice. Had chicken pie, veg burger (nice) Son had burger ( was dry) sauce in little bowl had skinned over so had been sat a while. Other son didn't eat brocoli (loves it) was from frozen. Nice desserts. My espresso came luke warm 20 mins before my cheesecake (ordered together as a dessert deal) very limited vegetarian options. Was cold throughout the meal too.

Won't go again! Expensive, Poor Food, Some lackluster staff. Not a good experience, finished off with a 3" puddle getting to the car.

Called in for tea yesterday 12/3/2024. We both had the no leaf salad. The food was so tasty thanks to John the Chef and the Service was brilliant thanks to Diane. The Hare and Hounds is a lovely Inn very cosy and stunning views.

Beautiful Setting .. not an ideal experience for myself and family on this instance (or the lovely ladies sat next to us) ?♀️ customer service not exactly a pleasant experience ie. Are you having a drink or not? With the attitude of a don't really want to be here member of staff .. unfortunately I then had to chew through my Steak like a cow chewing through cud (not that I know what that feels like but you get the picture Sirloin Steak was rather tough) Waitress then came up whilst I was doing this and I had to try and explain (whilst chewing) what the problem was .. highly embarrassing as I had no napkin to eject said object into ? anyway not completely ideal .. the manager then came over after a while and kindly apologised for the Steak incident the meal was refunded. This is a beautifully decorated establishment with scenic views and eatery worth a visitation when that particular member of staff is not on .. the dessert was wonderful and the pies apparently were awesome .. just a shame that the cows get a bit tougher up north! Blue Light Friendly

Love what they’ve done with it. Great beers though somewhat on the pricey side but I guess you pay for the terrific view of Mcr & like I say the ales were as good as any you’d find in Gtr
Great
