Came for Christmas eve meal. This used to be a great place to come, not sure what's happened but the service tonight was awful and the food was average at best.Had a pint replaced because the glass smelled (waiter agreed), Took ages just to get the bill to leave the place and when we received the bill took more time waiting to then be told pay at the bar in a queue again. Unpleasant experience, better off at the kings arms or roebuck now by the looks of it.

Pleasant staff. Laid back atmosphere. Top notch food. I highly recommend this place. I'll be back again. That's for sure.

Such a nice place, friendly staff, good food and not expensive. So very quiet mid week but busy at the weekend. Hopefully business will pick up for them during the holidays. Definitely recommend.

Great food, and value for money. The lady that served us was great and fab with my baby granddaughter and even treated her to ice cream. Would definitely recommend and revisit.

Having never tried rag pudding before I thought I would give it a go. It was delicious! And the peach crumble for pudding was just what was needed on a wet and windy September day. I was slightly scared by the idea of mint custard (which my husband had) but it was really lovely, especially paired with the chocolate fudge cake. We will definitely be coming back.

We only stopped for a drink but bar lady/possibly manager was lovely and friendly and had a chat with us. All staff are friendly and as soon as our glass was empty we were offered another drink. This never happens anymore in large commercial bars. We will be back for food: thank you

Really lovely food & service at The Black Ladd in Shaw. After a rainy walk, 4 of us were looking for somewhere to eat. It was a busy Saturday evening & the restaurant was fully booked. The very helpful head waitress accommodated us in the bar area & kindly put extra heating on as we were cold & wet from the walk. I’m presuming it is a dog friendly pub as the restaurant is separate from the bar area. 3 of us had the homemade cheese & onion pie & the 4th person had the steak & ale pie, all came with gorgeous thick hand cut chips. Our cheese & onion pie is up there with the best I’ve tasted, lovely strong cheese flavour & no evidence of being packed out with mash potato that you sometimes get in that type of pie. The pastry underneath was cooked right through, (I really dislike some pies that still have transparent pastry on the bottom). Apparently the steak pie was also lovely, no grissle or fat to be found. All our food was piping hot when it arrived. The staff service was brilliant throughout our visit. Well done to all staff, especially the chef. We will defo return. Top tip, if you go during the week they have some really good 2 course & 3 course deals on offer. Monday - Thursday.

Wow, Now as we turned in to this pub with awe inspiring views, me and my husband had to spend a good five minutes looking out over Manchester City. It was amazing! Then we were welcomed by the lovely manager and the waitress. First, the service was impeccable ? friendly, warm and couldn't do enough for us. Then the starter oh yummy! The prawn salad, which was served a gem lettuce. My husband the pate which he too loved. Then I had the cabanarra with chicken. Oh wow, so so tasty and filling. My husband had the chicken dinner with saute mushrooms. He said it was a taste explosion. If we had room in our tummy to have the many deserts they offered then we would have ordered some. But we will have some next time. Thank you for a wonderful evening to you all!!!!
