Was not expecting to be blown away by the portion size of the Sunday roast we had today. Well Presented delicious family-style Veg, I could not get enough of the sweet roasted Carrots not to mention the roast potatoes. To die for. I would not share My Lamb but it was too good to experience all by myself. Our last experience in the garden was good but inside upstairs is a must, so much character. Service was prompt and natural, with no hard selling. the food does it all. Do yourselves a treat and make the trip. Go for a long walk afters, recommended. Well, recommended. Well, Done Kitchen and Front of house. You will see me again. Jakes.

My wife and I took my parents here for Sunday lunch to celebrate Father’s Day. From the moment we arrived we were made to feel welcome. Great Sunday lunch menu and the food was delicious. I recommend the ‘nutless roast’ - their very tasty vegetarian option - and their roast potatoes are amazing. Also the chocolate brownie was a generous size and dripping with rich chocolate. Very good value too. This pub has a lovely, unpretentious homely feel. So glad to have it as our local!

We were taking my 88 year old Dad out for lunch and like to try new places. We arrived at The Ship at 12.30pm and were greeted by a lovely lady behind the bar who took our drinks order and, 10 mins later, a food order. Not overly busy but 20 mins after ordering all customers were warned of a food delay as there was only one person in the kitchen. Oddly, some people who ordered food after ours were served first (maybe theirs were ready meals?) At 1.35pm, 55 mins after ordering and still no sign of our meals, we decided to politely pay for the drinks and go. Lovely lady behind the bar was very apologetic. Just as we were about to leave the ‘cook’ came storming out the kitchen, looking verycross saying our food was on its way. He then had the audacity keep berating us, shouting for all to hear, that we had only waited 40 minutes. We only ordered pub regulars of gammon, scampi and fish cakes so maybe timing isn’t his forte! Won’t be going back anytime soon and can’t review the food as it never arrived!

Nice catch up with friends today. Lovely lady behind the bar. Great service. We all had a nice 3 course meal. The pub shut at 3 but there were in no rush to close. Would definitely go there again. ???

A lovely traditional country pub with a warm welcome and a good selection beers and food.Parking: The car park is not the largest, but neither is the pub. We took the second to last space at 12:30 on a Sunday. This was our first visit so I can't really judge whether the car park is big enough. The pub was not busy so perhaps on a busier day you might struggle to find a spot.

Visited The Ship with friends and their 16 month old daughter on a Saturday lunchtime and couldn't have been made more welcome. The food was home cooked and delicious without being overly fancy and served on a roof slate! Service was impeccable and we would recommend to others and revisit without fail.

3 of us visited on a late September evening, Very warm welcome from the staff. Good choice of drinks available and a reasonable choice on the menu. Dad's starter of Whitebait was excellent but maybe too large a helping for a starter. They both went for Lamb shank mains while I pushed the boat out for the fillet steak, which was cooked medium rare to perfection as ordered and the parmesan coated chips were lovely. All three thoroughly enjoyed our meals. Dad and myself finished things off with a lovely slice of cheesecake and mum chose profiteroles. Value was very good for home cooked pub food. The old stone pub was quiet and the lighting is not too bright with a mix of furniture. Would definitely visit again if in the area. Left a menu in our holiday let for others to find.

I arrived as they opened, and the barman (manager?) greeted me in a friendly manner and when asked told me they were serving in half an hour. I waited, and ordered. The staff are friendly, even to a solo male traveller, and the BBQ ribs were very well cooked. They fell away from the bone and were accompanied by a real side salad dressed with balsamic vinegar, and the obligatory chips (less said about them the better). Would I recommend it? Yes I think I would. Having had a similar dish at a Frankie and Benny's I can see now just how good the ribs at the ship are! They had too much BBQ sauce on for my taste, but a friend assures me she cant have enough BBQ sauce, so that's just me then!

Food was disappointing. My friend had the fishcakes which were really dry and frankly looked like they'd come from a packet. I ordered gammon and got mostly peas. Dessert was ice cream which was clearly very cheap, the sort you can get a big tub of for a couple of quid in ASDA. We felt cheated as this cost the same as a quality meal yet I've had much better at Wetherspoons. Not much of an atmosphere either. We were also told we needed to leave before 9pm as they were closing up!

Disappointing considering all the good reviews. I had fish cakes from the specials menu, which unfortunately weren’t very special. They were £16 and both were so dry, definitely not worth £16. We both had ice cream and it was really cheap quality that is usually given on a children’s menu, and that was £6. Staff were friendly though.
