On arriving the reception staff were very friendly and helpful. My room was very clean and tidy and the enormous bath towels were fluffy. A flat screen TV and WIFI was readily available making it easy for me to keep in contact with my business associates. The breakfast was served in a very clean and airy restaurant served by very friendly and professional staff. Enjoyed my stay and would definitely recommend to both business and pleasure visitors. Please be aware this is a dog friendly hotel, although during my stay I did not come across any.

Amazing hotel! Staff are extremely courteous and helpful. Quiet and comfy rooms and an incredibly well kept and truly classic old school gem in the heart of Havant. Very walkable to train station, shops and entertainment. On-site pub and restaurant are awesome. No elevator or AC. Highly recommended. Will stay again!

This was our second visit. Last time, two years ago, we were assured the rooms were about to be refurbished. We were given the same room which was still appalling. Grim all round. Mismatched tatty furniture. No plug near dressing table. Bathroom was dingy and the bath was chipped and stained. Tap wouldn’t turn off in the bathroom. Curtains like nets that wouldn’t close fully which exposed us to the workmen working on scaffolding outside our window at 7.45am!! The second “family” room for our daughter and grandchildren was situated above the bar and the noise was loud and foul mouthed. We complained to reception but the noise only abated for 10 minutes. Their sash window was stuck open with paint by 8 inches and the door to their room was jammed shut and needed kicking open with force. Problems were reported to reception but not resolved. The serving staff were all very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was good. But the rooms badly let the place down.

Absolutely shocking management was charged for rooms 46 and 47 for 4 nights even though they had sold 47 and still no refund and that was 3 months ago. We only booked 1 room and charged for 2. Avoid!!!!

Decided to book a night away to go and eat out at The Wheelwrights Arms just down the road. Arrived at the hotel Saturday late afternoon and was greeted with a warm and welcoming lady on reception. Room very basic but more importantly immaculately clean. Bar staff were fantastic and friendly. Breakfast was excellent as was the service. No grumbles from us at all. We would most certainly return. Shame the Castle on the island don’t function on the same way. The staff there could learn a lesson in customer service. Although now the particular people that were once employed there have now gone we may pop back. Well done all !! Big pat on the back. ?

wow that’s all I can say, the rooms are terrible, horrible furniture , extension leads everywhere , a miss mash of a dinning chair and a wooden chair, bathroom was a state with light fallen off with grey tape behind it, the breakfast was the worst i have ever had! honestly would never book with a green king again

We booked to stay here with our two dogs on the 25th of July for 3 nights. Room 20 has a sloping floor so we slid down the bed as we slept causing us restless sleep. The cost for 3 nights was £255 with another £60 for the dogs and a minimum of £7 for a continental breakfast pp which we paid for in advance for 2 mornings so £28 (this included not very nice instant coffee in a flask), in total £343. We booked to eat dinner on our second night which turned out to be horrible, my husbands Hunters chicken was disgusting most of which he left, I had the salmon fishcakes which had been deep fried for so long that what salmon there was had disappeared into the thick dark coating of breadcrumbs. I stupidly picked at mine as I was hungry but left a lot on the plate. The waiter on asking if anything was wrong and to which I replied it was all pretty horrible just gave profuse apologies and took the plates away, no one came to offer us anything else or a refund which I wish I had got up and insisted upon. We decided to leave a day early because of the uncomfortable bed and poor customer attitude when we left our food which must have been around £40 with wine....so all in all around £400 for an unpleasant stay

Terrible attitude to customer service and reputation management! Booked an advance payment room for 2 nights SOLELY to go on a Pullman train trip from Havant train station (1 minute away) which was then cancelled due to train strikes. Asked if they would consider transferring the booking to another date as a goodwill gesture. The manager couldn't be bothered to call me back, got a jobsworth colleague (who I had to call again) to keep repeating it was advance payment with no cancellation with no consideration at all. Net result - they don't keep the room money IN ADDITION TO £10 x 2 for breakfast plus dinner for 4 (with relatives) on a different date, they just keep the room money now, refuse the additional money, get NO repeat business from me or my family (local) and a very strong recommendation to AVOID. Very short-sighted of them, given their really poor reviews. I'll also let Greene King know, as it was them who suggested I ask for the hotel for the transfer in the first place.

I’ve just stayed at the Bear in Havant for 7 days. The Staff are very friendly and provided everything I needed. Being on my own could be lonely but it definitely wasn’t lonely thanks to the staff in the bar in the evenings. A very special mention for Big Harry in the Elizabeth bar for entertaining me every night with his excellent Guinness and great selection of music, thanks pal;). Also a mention for Steve and all the other staff who made me feel at home. Maybe see you all in 4 weeks time. Loved it, Robert. Room 41.:)

The poor, old Bear is STILL in dire need of refurbishment. Come ON, Greene King..... he really does deserve it! That said, I spent a really comfortable night. Room (good size) had a fan. Bed was very comfortable. Adequate storage. Generous tea and coffee. Staff extremely pleasant and courteous. Cannot fault it. For an arthritic 76-year old with congestive heart failure, getting in and out of a high bath tub to have a shower was a bit of a feat - but there were grab bars. The shower was vigorous - brilliant! No complaints then and congratulations to the staff for keeping their ursine friend going. I have been staying here for many years, and shall continue to.

My goodness my room number 20 needed a sort out. I have given green king time to come back to me but they are oddly silent..... But I have a real issue with not been able to open curtains.... Come on... Dark and dingie room in the middle of summer just dire. Bathroom not clean and radiogram in bedroom from 60's and very dusty and not working why is it been given room space?? Come on you can do better maybe ask people if they have blue light card when they book?? Breakfast was amazing and very good value a big plus well done all. Staff were amazing. Decor well that needs a good sort out just been able to use key to get into room would help.... All in all staff amazing. Corporate business needs to do better my room was well shabby

Stopped of here for a late lunch , we had a nice greeting by the guy at the back at the bar . We got drinks and chose our table , after at short time browsing through the menu we made our choices. x1 Rump Steak medium & Cajun chicken in a basket with a garlic Kiev sauce . The food arrived , it was hot well presented and looked great . The Cajun chicken was excellent and the Kiev sauce was really tasty . I enjoyed every part of the meal . The person with me assured me that his steak was tasty, succulent and cooked just to his liking . I am sure we will visit again .

An older hotel attached to a pub. Room was simple, but clean. Bed was comfortable. Bath was fine, although suggest they add a bath mat for the tub/shower for safety reasons. Television small and a bit oddly placed. Carpets are rather dated and worn and it is a bit of a warren trying to find your room. Breakfast was quite good and the staff at the desk and in the restaurant were courteous. Good value for the price, but it could do with some updating.

absolutely disgusting behaviour from staff, wouldn’t let us in for breakfast as they where full, but when explaining this to us was very rude about it, told us we would of been told when we checked in to sort breakfast booking then and there. when we told her we hadn’t , which we hadn’t she was very rude about how the staff all know to tell guests on arrival so we must be lying. then tried to pick a argument with my partner, infront of our young kids. i’m very appalled by her attitude. we will not be stopping there again

absolutely appauling staff. we went down for breakfast the next morning to be told they had no room and we should of booked it on arrival, when explaining we didn’t get told this. instead of talking to us like normal guests the lady is persistent in saying we would of been told they tell everyone and made me feel like i was lying ! then tried to pick an argument with my partner on leaving the reception. she had no interest in seeing if we could get in and quite honestly i felt she was snubbing us as we had come down with young children. we will not be stopping here again, which is a shame as the evening staff where quite pleasant . but sour face lady was not.
