Cafes in Southampton

“A wonderful place to go to try and fight off your anxiety by meeting fellow boardgames enthusiasts.

Set days are for certain events with Monday being a free-for-all and open to all newcomers where you can play from either their wide selection of board games or even bring your own!

Saturdays are also the new location of the Adult Social Group from 6pm to 9pm and they are a real lovely bunch of friendly people and the more I've gone, the better and more confident I've gotten.

They stop serving hot meals at around 6pm, but if you get a chance I recommend the Macaroni and Cheese. It's very good! I usually have lemon juice there and really appreciate that they give you the option of sharp or sweet and the cool mug it comes in.

They have a tuck shop, as pictured, that runs through the whole time where you can buy a fun variety of snacks.

I highly recommend checking this place out, especially if you want to socialise, but you don't want to just sit at a bar, pay for expensive drinks and then leave, having accomplished nothing like I have with my own issues with anxieties and trying to socialise. The staff are extremely friendly and helpful in how they are in general.

Again, great place for any lonely gamer to hang out and make friends. Or queer folk as the place is pro-LGBTQ+.

“What an absolute gem of a find in Shirley. Took daughter and two grandchildren (11y&9y) for lunch here for first time. Could not fault the food, plentiful well cooked and presented. The grandchildren said they definitely want to come back here and not MacDonalds (out of the mouths of babes!). Exceptionally clean and staff welcoming. Would definitely recommend a visit and make up your own minds. Thankyou for a lovely lunch.”

This was easy to do.
What I liked was the fact you could make additions or changes to the drink or meals.
Drinks for example with or without ice.
A cheeseburger, items not required for example, no onions or other options.
Ordering made simple.
Despite the restaurant being almost full, our food and drinks arrived very quickly.
Good food and a very good atmosphere, a real buzz

“This is such a delightful cafe, by far the best in Southampton! Everything I've had to eat or drink here has been of the highest quality (particularly a fan of the oat iced latte here). Love the ambience of the mismatched furniture, the board games, and the books that are available to browse and use. Patches is a wonderful server who is always super stylish and very friendly! I attend the Cosy Crime book club here, they very kindly open up after hours to let us meet once a month and and we love the Retro as a base, it's accessible for us all and so comfortable too. Definitely recommend it here!”
