Staff went above and beyond for our wake today

Great tradional British pub grub. We didn't book but they found us a table in back room, really busy. Always a good sign. We were staying at The Oakes and walked round.

Been here twice in 2 weeks. Once for my nans Wake. Short haired staff lady (maybe a manager) was rude. (Luckily there was a blonde lady too who was quite nice). We were made to feel we were an inconvenience when we moved out of the wake area and into the food area (we only had 2 hours for the wake). She rolled her eyes at her colleague when she saw we were all sat taking up a few too many tables for her liking even though it wasn’t busy. Went again recently for dinner and again, staff not the best. 2 waitresses were lovely but the higher up staff seemed a little rude. Was also a little shocked to see we were charged £1.50 for peas on the bill after we asked for some because the Gammon was literally, Gammon and chips. On the way out we said bye to the staff and thank you, but after they saw we didn’t leave a tip, the goodbye was extremely blunt. Between the wake and the second visit, we’ve spent over £600. The only good thing we can point out, is their deserts are very nice. Has put us off.

Lovely local pub. Unfortunately, the chap at the bar is very rude, unwelcoming, and with poor customer skills. Puts you off from coming back. Shame!

Note to bar staff here: If you treat customers like they are the enemy they won't come back. Miserable & unnecessarily rude staff. Such a shame because this could be a nice pub.

We were so surprised to read negative reviews of this great pub. Our experience today was so different. The atmosphere in the pub was relaxed, friendly and welcoming. A huge plus, in our opinion, was that there were NO DOGS allowed (HOORAY!) in the restaurant. The staff were efficient and really nice people. The food well presented, fresh and very tasty. Thank you so much. We will be returning.

Hi we had a wonderful meal here on Thursday! My mother and I are gluten free and we were so pleased with the choice of meals for us on the menu. All of it was lovely will def book again! Thank you.Dietary restrictions: GF menu superb!

Disappointing. Vegetarian and Meat lasagne with veg ordered as a side dish. Lasagne sauce tasted like tomato puree, the worst I've had for years. Veg portion paltry and badly cooked.

Disappointing visit My husband and I dropped by for Sunday lunch, I ordered pork loin and my husband the mixed grill The pork was as tough as old boots and brandy sauce tasteless.

Food was very tasty and we enjoyed it after a long time of not coming here. However, there were lots of flies flying around the dining area and circling in the walkways which put us off our food, especially when they kept landing on us! Also, it would be nice to dust the decorations on the wall as they were full or cobwebs and spiders! Would come back but not in a rush at the moment.
