I used to use this pub regularly ahead of football matches at nearby Fratton Park. When I returned for the 2023-24 season, I was very disappointed. Setting aside the rather brutal and charmless refurbishment, I found a pub under new ownership that was seriously adrift: new, inexperienced staff struggled, while the new landlord - instead of leading from the front sat on the customers’ side of the bar. There was no cask ale and the place had completely lost its mojo. Unless it raises its game ASAP, it’ll all going to end in tears before the start of next season. I now go to another pub.

The Rutland still has the classic Cogswell exterior, but inside it's been renovated, polished and brightened so that the old pub atmosphere is gone and it's more like a café or a coffee shop. Plenty of lager choices for the new clientele, but fine ales in short supply.

What a great place to visit the new team ther are awesome how I see in there Antony cotton yes from core nation streat just ask the boss wonder women and you may see a free from Netflix's the crown great pub great staff great Sunday roast and great entertainment for sure been seen as a hub of the community thank one and

Having been in here for years. Looks a lot more modern however I still preferred the old school, dark wood pub look. Nice staff and good beer.
First time here in 30 years ish and boy has it changed (and after this amount of time it had too ?)was well impressed how modern it looked really modern serving great beers and the starf were fantastic ?
