The venue is beautiful. The staff are excellent. A very comprehensive menu as is the wine list. Great to see local real ale available. Unfortunately the food did not live up to expectations. Cheese souffle was bland and not very cheesy. The crab starter was nice but needed more seasoning, with a little more pepper made it delicious. The mains, pork chop was under cooked twice, but the flavour was amazing, the salmon was cooked to perfection but again bland and just needed seasoning.

Return visit with friends. Another excellent quality meal. Meals are not cheap, but you are paying for something special. Reservations essential.

Asked for 19 00 seating nothing available until 19 45 arrived only four dinners put next to front door and a draughty window food was average for the heavty price what got me a £30 meal was £92 and the server presented the card machine contactless towards me must have pressed the green button for ten per cent gratitudes onl noticed when scrutinised at home won't be returning

Attention to detail was fantastic from Simons warm welcome, the venue itself and all those little extras in the room. A wonderful nights sleep in an extremely comfortable bed and a lovely shower with the best smelling products which we are wanting to buy for home. Breakfast was very special too…highly recommended.

Outstanding in every way. A wonderful experience for all of the senses. The quality of ingredients/food/cheffing for our evening meal courses (and breakfast) was just superb and the wines we tried were absolutely gorgeous. The location is tranquil/beautiful and the wonderful, listed, main building oozes character and a warm, welcoming charm which essentially continues and evolves into a very cosy/homely 'old pub' ambience within but of a high quality. The main building (and the lovely accommodation buildings, plants, beds and grounds) are all beautifully maintained and presented (which is an extra effort and expense at this time of year) and many establishments don't bother sadly but the Wellington Arms do, which speaks volumes about their professionalism and care about the whole 'experience' there for visitors and our stay was a really refreshing 'joy', start to finish. The Wellington Arms is a genuine 'gem' and a really great find. It is head and shoulders above most other establishments of its type. Everything oozed real quality, care and attention to detail but without being pretentious. 'Quietly wonderful'. It all spoke for itself eloquently and beautifully. The perfect balance in my humble opinion. My only regret is that we didn't stay 2 nights. We shall be back.

I realise that I’ve been to The Welli three times and have never left a review – shame on me! This is one of the best, well organised, well-run gastro pubs in the UK and deserves every accolade it receives. The staff are gracious, warm and welcoming from the word go to the very end and you could, on that basis alone, only want to come back; the food is well thought out with something for everyone and especially game in season; the veg grows yards from the door and is un-mucked-about and left to sing for itself; the wine list used to be stupendous but unfortunately, Covid meant they had to sell their stocks to keep going; so now it is shortened but well-formed. Saying that, they only charged us £20 for corkage which was very generous. We hope to continue going there and that they continue to provide excellence as the norm. Many thanks…… Highly recommended.

This is such a great restaurant I've ended up going twice in one week. Between both visits, I had the excellent home-grown stuffed courgette flowers, a perfectly cooked ribeye, fantastic chicken potpie with foraged mushrooms, plus an exquisite elderflower trifle and some of the homemade ice creams. Plus some of the best brownies I've ever tried to take away. Everything on the menu is cooked perfectly. It's an especially nice touch that a lot of produce is home-grown and some available to buy and take away with you. To top it all off, the service is friendly and really welcoming, plus a great drinks list. This has comfortably become my new favourite place to eat.

Our first visit. We cannot praise & thank The Wellie highly enough. What a find! Peacefully rural on a quiet road to the south of Baughurst. A classic, pretty country pub, now converted to an excellent restaurant, with three rooms. What strikes you first is how immaculate The Wellie is, inside and out. The large garden is a delight. Masses of dahlias and all manner of bushes and plants. Birds, birds and more birds. Do check out the vegetable garden beyond the rear car park. You then walk inside to the warmest of relaxed welcomes from the owners, Simon and Jason, and manager, Sheila, and their lovely young helpers. Nothing is too much trouble. The first thing you’ll spot is the array of fruit, veg & salad for sale by the pub bar – the Wellie Deli. Along with home made jams, chutneys, quiches, etc. I then spotted the two hand pumps! Longdog Golden Poacher & Basingstoke Pride. The seating inside is for diners - every session is a sell out! But I was very happy to sup several excellent pints of well kept draught Basingstoke Pride in the garden – until I discovered their Negronis! Truly the best this side of Kwant (Piccadilly). We’d opted for the room in the pub: the Apartment. Two rooms on the first floor, knocked through. Enormous comfy bed, large rainfall shower, sofa, mini bar – two TVs! Free milk & homemade shortbread. One of the discoveries we made here is the fabulous tea they serve from Prince & Sons. As you can tell by now, we were very happy with our first stay at The Wellie… and then we went down for dinner! A truly exceptional menu from Jason’s kitchen, which changes each evening. Highlights were the scallops wrapped in pancetta, the pollack, the lamb pot pie, the twice baked cheese souffle, the NY cheesecake, the rhubarb ice cream, the treacle tart... All so fresh, tasty, and mainly from their garden. What we loved most was it was relaxed but fine dining without the tiny portions. The Full English breakfast the next morning was equally tasty. All in all, we did not want to go home! Thank you Simon, Jason & Sheila. We will be back, soon.

This is the perfect place for an idyllic lunch on a sunny day. The garden that you are invited to eat in is a delight so much so that I can't fairly say much about the inside of this establishment as I was completely charmed and captivated by the garden and outside space! I can have nothing but compliments too for our waitress. She was knowledgeable about the menu, friendly and efficient. And the menu...oh goodness. What a lunch we had! My husband even had desert, which is very rare, as he had so enjoyed his meal he wanted to keep doing so. So why would you go to the Wellington Arms at Baughurst...why for wonderful food in a wonderful garden prepared and served by wonderful people! Thank you so much to the team.

The wellington Arms was like staying in a mini 5 star hotel without the stuffiness. We stayed in ‘The apartment’ room - it was a suite. Beautifully appointed with stunning furniture, fabulous bed and just had everything you could need. Really high end products and delightful little touches. We had dinner in the restaurant and when we went up to our room after dinner the curtains had been drawn, radio playing softly, bed turned down and pillows fluffed. Tea tray cleaned and milk in the fridge replaced… such a lovely touch. Dinner was delightful. It was evidently locally sourced and seasonal. Good value and offered something for everyone. Lovely service too. Breakfast was also excellent. Overall excellent value for money ( we stayed on a Thursday night so a little less than a weekend) Would highly recommend and will return.

I have such a soft spot for The Welly! We discovered it by chance years ago after getting a bit lost during a weekend drive and walked in with the hope they could serve us some lunch. The owner Simon was so obliging and charming and did us fish and chips and ice cream even though they were busy. We’ve been back many times over the years and it never disappoints. Food is always delicious and appetising without being fussy. We recently visited for dinner at the weekend. I had a very generous piece of fresh Cornish cod, my husband had a perfectly cooked steak. Wine was excellent and a fair price. Service is friendly without being ott. It’s a well-heeled crowd, smartly dressed but a relaxed and convivial atmosphere. I love the historic feeling without it feeling old-fashioned or twee. There’s a beautiful garden and small holding if the weathers good. They also do take away pies, bread and marmalade. They have very nice rooms too if you wanted to stay. Thanks Simon and team for a lovely evening.

We had a fantastic experience recently at the Wellington Arms. Weather was beautiful so we were able to eat outside in the stunning garden. Menu had some very interesting and different options and there was certainly something for everyone. All waiting staff were incredibly friendly, courteous and efficient to a fault. All good was perfect and in our group we had starters of chicken liver parfait, chorizo sausage; mains of mussels and chips, pork chop and fish & chips. Everything was excellent and prices for what we had were very reasonable. Highly recommended.

We recently booked in for dinner, bed and breakfast. We have been for dinner before but not stayed overnight. Our room (the Cart House) was fabulous. Comfortable, spacious, clean, quiet (with the occasional sound of very sweet baby lambs in the neighbouring field) and calming which was perfect after the somewhat stressful day we had had before we arrived. On arrival Simon immediately made us feel welcome and relaxed. Indeed all the Welli Team are highly professional and welcoming. As always the food was superb. Thank you Jason and all in the kitchen. The French Toast at breakfast was heaven. The location is idyllic and the gardens picture perfect. We will definitely return as soon as we can think of another good excuse to do so!
