We spent the day in Winchester @ the Christmas Market so had pre-booked a table for two at the Royal Oak - tucked down a narrow lane just off the High Street. The pub is on several levels and has good atmosphere. We had a light lunch - ordering food @ bar our food arrived in good time - nicely presented and had flavour. So an interesting pub with history / decent food and good service. A good choice.Even better if - perhaps putting a name or initials on the reserved board on the table - that way there is no confusion on whose table is whose - and also some attention to the 'domestics' - the dusting would struggle to pass a white glove test !A great location and we will recommend and return.

The Royal Oak had some wonderful internal architecture and ambience, really gives off the feeling that an olden days pub should have. The food (Squid, Onion rings, chips and a burger) was all delicious, served piping hot and fast given the time of day (05:00 - 10:00PM).Rated down the atmosphere purely because the outdoor heaters were; quite understandably, on a timer that needed to be pressed every 10-15 mins.

Fab food and a wonderful atmosphere. Its like loads of little rooms attached on top of each other and there's way more seating than I expected. If you can't find a seat it might be that there's some in one of the little branch rooms and hidden floors. It gives a magical vibe really. There's old beams and walls which really make it feel cozy and old fashioned, then the food is amazing. It can get a bit busy by the bar but that's because it's popular.I'd recommend the halloumi

Called in for lunch and although it was busy The service was quick The staff couldn’t do enough for us and checked numerous times if we had everything we needed Returned later that evening and again the service was excellent Even though very busy Plenty of staff on and all very pleasant and efficient Highly recommended

This is the oldest bar in Britain apparently. We found it by chance and just had to go in. It's very welcoming and very impressive all round and the food was delicious. Definitely recommend it.
Neat pub in Manchester! According to the locals this is where kings and queens would stay when they passed through town. In the basement there was a wall that was built in the year 1002!!

Although the food was very tasty, the reception was cold and indifferent. The restaurant is mixed with the pub seating and diners order their meal at the bar. It’s a lively space.Dietary restrictions: There is a clear readout of allergens on a tablet.

Went for a Sunday roast. The food was great, we had the pork belly as well, which was fantastic.Lovely pub overall!

Probably the oldest pub in a whole England (circa 1002). Inner layout is quirky, because is it consists from a number of sections on different levels. It was full of guests, what made my moving around a bit challenging. I think it is the most importnat pub to visit when you are coming to Winchester.

Followed the sign promising the oldest bar in England. It's quite a claim. Anyway, tick, I've been there now, done it and got the t shirt.Proud.
