Turtle Bay Winchester Unit 2 - 4, Sunley House, Winchester

We visited Turtle Bay in Winchester on St Patrick’s Day 2026, and it turned out to be such a memorable experience. Although it was a quieter evening than expected, the atmosphere still felt warm and welcoming, largely thanks to the staff who brought so much energy despite it being calm.

From the moment we arrived, the service really stood out. We were greeted by our server, Phil, who was absolutely fantastic. He had such a natural, authentic presence and brought a kind of theatrical charm to the whole experience—in the best possible way. It felt like he genuinely enjoyed what he was doing, which made us enjoy it even more.

The bar staff were just as lovely. At one point, they surprised us with free virgin piña colada shots for no particular reason, which was such a thoughtful and unexpected gesture. It really added to the overall warmth of the place.

All in all, it was a great experience from start to finish. The combination of great service, a positive atmosphere (even on a quiet night), and those little extra touches made it really special. We’ll definitely be returning.

My family brought me here for a 30th birthday dinner, we had the Tokyo experience. We were skeptical at first when the first course came out as it looked very small but WOW the food was great. Enough courses to fill you up, the food was fresh and delicious. The servers brought out a special pudding and sang happy birthday which was a lovely surprise. Special shout out to our server, I don’t know her name but she was blonde and a fantastic hostess. Attentive, genuinely friendly and made sure we had a great night. I hope she gets the recognition she deserves ??

What a gorgeous evening. Both my partner and I work in the hospitality sector in London and, after a busy December, decided to take a couple of nights away in a nearby city. We stumbled upon this gem, and it could not have been better received by us.

The team were genuinely lovely, and the food exceeded even my partner’s expectations (and he’s a big foodie). I’m vegetarian and usually just go along with things for his sake, but I was completely blown away by the cauliflower main and the mushroom starter.

Lovely service, beautiful food, and a perfect atmosphere, even on a rainy Tuesday in January. The ambience was spot on, and we had a truly wonderful evening with you. Thank you so much to both Luke and Craig x

After dropping the little one off at Winchester College, my wife and I went for a stroll around the area. Lunch time arrives, so we pick a restaurant. We gave this one a try. The restaurant was busy with staff zooming around. The waiter that came to our table at first looked quite scary, but when he started to take our order, we found out he DOES smile and was actually quite friendly and polite ?. We had a 3 course set menu. Food was delicious and we didn't have to wait for anything. Instant service! Not bad at all. Give this place a try.

We discovered this great spot in Winchester and really enjoyed the atmosphere. The interior is incredibly cosy—a perfect place for us to settle in and relax. We tried the ceremonial cacao, which was rich in flavour and easily the highlight of our visit.

The staff member who served us was super cool and made us feel welcome from the moment we walked in. We unfortunately forgot to ask for his name, but he even gave us a thoughtful discount because it was Easter Sunday, which was a great gesture. If you're looking for a chilled vibe and genuine hospitality, RØST is the place to go.

For me, this place doesn’t live up to the hype. It felt like when you go to a restaurant in an incredible location, the view makes up for what else is missing. The food was very good but served on cheap plates and over priced. The portions were small and felt like they weren’t finished before being sent out. The staff were fine. Surprisingly few veggie options and lack of imagination for alternatives (I had the salad which is usually served with pork scratchings and there was no alternative offered). The paneer bao were excellent. I’d love this place to thrive but I’d like to see more care and flare. Photo of my cheesecake.

I and my friend went for a casual evening drinks. We didnt reserve. However the staff was very accommodating and gave us a table at the terrace.

This place is at the perfect location. If the weather is right then one would love sitting at the terrace. If its cooler then indoors are pretty warm and nice.
They have preserved the old British / Irish vibe to the place, so kudos.

Being a non-alcoholic, I struggled to find drinks for myself. However, the lady server lovingly made a virgin bloody mary for me which was delicious

The pub itself is a piece of history. The food seemed a bit pricey. The stake&ale pie was ok, not to my taste. I liked the side gravy that came with it. The cabbage was interesting, but not a wow thing. Service was nice and quick. The portion was huge, I would say 2 people could easily leave the place and belly full up. Overall not a bad place, I'll give it another try and try something different to eat.

From the moment my daughter and I arrived, we were greeted by Ben, the Manager, whose genuine friendliness and courtesy immediately set the tone for the evening.
This excellent first impression was more than matched by Jamie, who looked after us throughout the night. To describe his service as attentive would be an understatement. Jamie delivered a level of customer care and service that was exemplary in every sense — thoughtful, professional, and sincerely invested in ensuring that our dining experience was exceptional. He went above and beyond at every opportunity, making us feel both welcome and valued.
To complete an already outstanding evening, every dish and drink we ordered was absolutely delicious, beautifully prepared, and thoroughly enjoyed. We left the restaurant genuinely happy, satisfied, and certain that choosing to dine here was the right decision.

I am blown away at how good this meal was. I have been to the finest 3 Michelin star restaurants in the world, and this beats most of them. I’d highly recommend visiting.

To the chef, please don’t change anything about this menu so I can come back and have it all again.

The chef starts you out with three “snacks” all three are amazing the liver mousse being the star, and the salty ham and truffle bite was also incredible.

Get the pigeon as a starter, is absolutely beautiful and tastes fantastic. The sauces are so deep flavorful, you just want to eat more and more.

The bread course is by far the best bread I’ve had in a restaurant. The only complaint I have all night is, I would like 2 pieces instead of one, it’s just that good.

The pre dessert was stunning, maybe the best pre dessert I’ve ever had.

And the dessert was a show stopper. I had the coffee and chocolate mousse, with the banana ice cream it was a standout dish and one of the best desserts you will ever have. BUT the Mille-Feuille was even better. Honey Caramelized pastry crust, with sharp rhubarb and sweet orange zest. It was a top 3 dessert.

I can’t wait to come back, if you are on the fence about visiting, trust me, come now before Chef gets 2 Michelin stars and the price goes up.

My BF is a chef and I wanted to spoil him. After expert advice from Lainston House, I chose the table s chef and it was worth every penny. From the antique looking personalised scroll to the attentive and friendly service, we were exquisitely looked after. The sommelier recommended the perfect wine to pair and Ben was looking after us with him. The chefs were soooo good. Each dish was a delight and the finesse of the presentation was outstanding. Each chef came to introduce the dish they prepared. I guess we met them all. Very professional and friendly. My BF commented on how tight knit the team was. We were both also impressed by their thorough cleaning at the end of the night shift. All in all, an extraordinary experience where everything was just so. Next time, we ll try the Avenue restaurant

We went to the Albion as we came out of Winchester Train Station last night
The beer quality was the best we have found in Winchester
The location by the station but near the town cetre is excellent
It is a friendly pub, we walked in for the first time and were made very welcome indeed. The key reason for this was the barman called Sam - he really is the person you would want in the role if it was your pub; smart, friendly, knowledgeable about the beer and simply a nice guy.
The prices were excellent - we were paying £4.80 for a pint where the norm now seems to be around £7.00 which adds up to quite a difference over an evening.
So all in all the best we have found in Winchester.

This is a wonderful pub full of character and history. The moment you walk in you feel like you could have stepped back to the Tudor era. The downstairs is your traditional cosy pub feel with the log burner roaring whereas the upstairs showcases the history behind the building.

The staff were very friendly and welcoming. Good pub food, very tasty. My only critique is they could have been a bit more generous with the filling on the toastie.

I would recommend this place for lunch, it’s centrally located just off the high street and a stone’s throw away from the cathedral, with lots of history. No ghosts were seen on this visit!

It was our first visit to this pub and what an amazing surprise. We were tempted by a Facebook post about a Mauritian menu and thought we'd give it a try. On walking through the door, the pub was buzzing, barely an empty seat and a really warm welcome from Aidrian. The decor creates a cosy, snug atmosphere and the service was prompt without being rushed. We chose two starters and two curries from Sarah's Mauritian menu... which is available in addition to the usual pub menu 3 days a week. All the dishes tasted great, paired with a nice bottle of wine... we'll definitely be back

Delicious food served promptly. Pizzas were huge, and the pasta was amazing. I had the pasta with vongole (clams) and the portion size was just right for me. We were all stuffed by the end and the free hot chocolate tasters were delicious , as were the complimentary servings of fried pasta to nibble on at the start! My daughter loved her huge hot chocolate. My wine had something in it - this was swiftly replaced and taken off the bill completely, which was very good service and much appreciated. We go to this pub every year as a family since I started uni in Winchester and I'm one year graduated now and we still love to visit it, especially around Christmas time with the Christmas market just across the road. Amazing range of vegan options, especially love the vegan sausage and mash and the vegan cheesy chips, my dad says the vegan burger is delicious also. The vegan apple crumble and brownie with custard or ice cream option are amazing too! Lovely pub with nice atmosphere and I love the pride flags too, makes everyone feel welcome.

A unique pub with a great range of beers. The Scottish Stout was well kept and poured perfectly. Welcoming bar staff and the smell of an open fire will bring me back. But the pleasant surprise is the eclectic decor. Where else do you see a stuffed giraffe head and neck as you tuck yourself away in a cosy anti room. The BBQ was not open that day which was a shame … I guess I will just have to revisit next time I am in Winchester.

Went in with a friend to get a drink. Bar tender (a guy ) was really polite and good service and I’m assuming the lady manager really polite chatty and kind. They were busy ! 2026 update; Recently visited on a couple of separate occasions for lunch and an early evening meal. The BLT for lunch was superb and the Pizza was so good. Highly recommended.

We have a lovely dinner here last night. Lively, buzzy restaurant, staff are professional but smile and joke with you. A lot of house specials - my friend had duck Rossa, they had venison on the menu.. I had a tandoori mixed grill and tarka dall which came with a fresh salad. I was pleased they had fresh mango lassi for me as a non drinker.

This is the only place I know that sells coconut water. So convenient if this is your choice of drink, you're travelling and you're thirsty. Not sure why it is called pumpkin cafe though I couldn't see any of the popular oversized squash based vegetable on sale so maybe stick to supermarkets if that is what you were thinking they sold. Others on this site complain about the staff personally I found the lady serving delightful and I prefer her to being served by some AI Avatar who is attractive but unable to feel true emotion....and has blue skin. To offer a balanced view it is cheaper if you invest in a flask or buy your snacks before your journey in a supermarket but if you can't be bothered to be organised then expext to pay over the odds for flavoured hot water and don't Complain on here about it..... honestly this is not the right platform to inspire genuine change.

Sometimes when you feel like having a burger there's not much that will shake you from that. Fabulous gluten free burger and chips in a proper pub. What's not to love. The pictures are the GF SJT burger. Brilliant.

Dietary restrictions: Great GF burger. I'm sure there are other GF options too but I stick to the burger when I'm there because it's brilliant and never disappoints.

I placed a complicated half and half order which was so nearly correct - the only issue was the pizza still had peppers on when I asked for them to be removed.
