Probably the worst food I've ever had from a chip shop. The venue itself is what's saving this from being a 1 star review. The good:This place was really clean, staff were friendly and dogs welcome in the garden. Portion sizes were large and presentation of the food was really good. Good selection of cans of pop.The bad: The food. There were so many bones in the battered fish (I know, it's fish you can expect a few bones) but there was so many that it was completely inedible. The cheesy veggie burger was incredibly dry (i asked for two sauces, and recieved the tiniest amount of mayo and none of the other sauce). The patty was less than half of the size of the bun, and the bun was stale. We had a portion of curry sauce each, and it was so salty neither of us could eat it.Cost £18 for food we couldn't eat, and nobody came round to make sure the food was okay.

The worst fish and chips ever...tasteless fish, poor batter and undercooked chips. Small portion of fish for a so say large fish. Waste of money.

Stopped here on a December lunchtime on spec. Decided to eat in. Fish, chips, mushy peas, bread and coffee. All piping hot and great quality. Good service, pleasant staff. I couldn't fault it.

22 minutes for someone to take my order, and that was because I was putting my coat on. Uninterested staff in a half empty restaurant. Can't imagine what they are like when it's busy.

I went into this fish bar and found the two young ladies too busy talking to serve until I asked was anyone serving and then I was acknowledged. I asked for 1 large and 1 small fish and separate chips, the chips and fish were bagged up together and when we came to eat them the small fish seemed to be fish skin and batter, no fish inside. As we don't live locally I didn't take it back so because of this I will never go into this shop again. As a suggestion two more mature ladies I'm sure would do a better job

Pleasant young man counterpointed by an unsmiling woman prepping and frying . . . This was a meal to fill time so asked for takeaway to eat in the rain by the bridge. The chips were in the top few percent of a long lifetime of eating chips and fries all over the UK and the world. Fresh, crispy on the outside and fluffy inside. The fish (cod) was fresh from the fryer and texture was fine though this was not the deepest flavoured fish . . . batter was excellent though I'm not supposed to know (Shhh . . . don't tell!). All was served in a papier-mache clamshell, great because they bio degrade and can be recycled, the polystyrene ones are an ecological menace!Price wise, a little over the top but then, Monmouth is a surprisingly pricey place considering itself very 'upmarket' - M&S and Waitrose cheek by jowl!

Lovely food!!! Fish and chips was absolutely beautiful, freshly fried and flavoursome. Service was also great, staff friendly. Good value for money.

Expensive considering the small portions. Large fish was a small portion . Fish was cold and staff were not customer focused in managing concerns.

Very disappointed, fish tasted of nothing at all, very watery maybe frozen, but the worst part was we spent days after with food poisoning. My only advice to anyone thinking of visiting this establishment is best to keep walking up the street to the proper chippy and save yourself a dozen toilet rolls in the process.

Popped into day 4 dinner on our way home. Had the chicken curry, it was nice but small and hardly any curry sauce.

Tasty. Just had the fish and chips for two. Very busy but didn’t have to wait too long. Freshly cooked and reasonable price. Sat next to the river.

Slow service Unclean Poor hygiene(picking chips that had fallen out of the tray with hands and putting them back on the tray for the customer. Pink in the middle sausages, staff using same meat thermometer on fish and sausages and not washing in-between Staff weren't shocked that sausage was pink in the middle, just oh sorry like they weren't bothered. Would not give them a 2nd chance.

Just had fish & chips from here & wish I hadn't bothered. Ordered one large & one small cod both with chips & a pot of curry sauce which cost over £15, the large cod was about the size of a small portion elsewhere and the small cod was about 2ozin weight, the batter on both was slimey and uncooked inside, chips were vile and as for the curry sauce I don't class a takeaway espresso cup a portion, even my 8yr old grand daughter was disgusted, wish I'd stopped in Ross on Wye for chips now.
