Staying nearby we booked the Stonemill for my birthday lunch and were not disappointed, although sadly the roast local lamb which the three adults chose was quite difficult to cut and eat (I had to leave about half of my meat) although the flavour was good. We mentioned this to the waitress to feed back to the kitchen. The starters were all delicious, as were the desserts, and portions were excellent with lots of veg and extra gravy when requested. Recommend for a meal in unusual surroundings.

Have been a customer for many years and have always enjoyed the food quality of service and atmosphere Sadly today that was not the case. As ever the atmosphere was as ever great and the service was good. Sadly the same could not be said about my food. The smoked salmon starter was delicious however my main course slow cooked lamb was cold and so salty that it was inedible. To be fair I was offered a replacement meal but just couldn't face it Such a shame

My wife and I visited the restaurant recently in February whilst away for a long weekend without the children. I booked the restaurant on the basis of the reviews on Tripadvisor given we did not know the area. Overall, the quality of the food and wine was very well priced and was very good and the set menu works well. Unfortunately we did not get around to trying the deserts due to time ( note - if you are not from Monmouth and are planning to visit the restaurant please make sure you book your return taxi a week in advance as Monmouth seems to have a very limited supply of taxis), though sure the deserts would have been good based on the previous 2 courses. My only constructive points of feedback was firstly, we could not add a tip onto the bill at payment thus requiring cash (so bring some extra cash!) and secondly, the owner seemed to be quite sharpe when telling us what was available or not on the evening menu (and therefore did not come across as the most welcoming of hosts) . However, I understand that the restaurant had been closed the previous day due to the extreme weather conditions so this could have been due to the result of loss of earnings and available of supplies being delivered due to the weather etc. Overall though would recommend and would return if we came back to Monmouth in the future.

Let's start with just one negative. Roast potatoes were a little let's say over cooked. But now the positives. The Venus is great, spacious with character. All the staff were polite warm and effecient. We were a group of 4. We had their Sunday lunch with 3 courses and all at a very good value. The beef and lamb were cooked really well, as were the veg.The other week we were also out at another venue, so to compare I would say the Stone mill comes up the better.Overall I would recommend the Stonemill for a warm good setting meal.

Excellent food, wonderful service, and help organising us getting home when our taxi driver abandoned us . Thank you !

Beautiful setting for a special meal. However, the steak and vegetable side were heavily salted to the point of being inedible. Another steak was offered by the chef, however we were no longer hungry. No reference was made to our complaint upon paying the bill or any offer given of a reduction in the bill. Will not be returning to this restaurant.

This was booked for my daughters 30th birthday by her partner. Josh made a fantastic decision to do so. From our warm welcome all the way to dessert and the cake we brought along the staff were fantastic. The food was exceptional from start to finish. Wonderful value. Thank you to all the staff you are doing a brilliant job. So looking forward to another visit very soon.

My wife took me to the Stone mill for an evening meal just before Christmas and I couldn't fault the service, ambience and flavour of some great locally sourced and prepared produce!Thank you.

Nice venue, food ok, if a little light on portion sizes. Good quality drinks. Most staff friendly and amenable. Bill worked out around £50 / head.

On the whole, the food was delicious (other than one dessert which had split and had to be returned) but the front of house staff let the side down with a catalogue of errors. They were all very young and it looked like they needed direction by someone with more experience to point them in the right direction! Firstly, when you have champagne you do not serve it in red wine glasses! Next came the waitress trying to take dishes away while we were still eating! We then had two courses where they brought the next course along before clearing the table so we were asked to clear the old dishes ourselves to enable the waitress to put the new plates on the table. The after meal coffee was then served with the desserts and instead of after that course was finished and having the dishes removed and then we were kept waiting 15 minutes for the check after we had asked for it even though there were only 4 tables and 3 waiting staff to cover these. All minor points but when you are at a higher end restaurant you certainly do not expect this catalogue of very basic errors

Large group, very well catered for. Food was lovely on the whole. Rib eye steak a little disappointing (not the best cut) but I’m a fussy customer when it comes to steak. Overall a great experience. I have heard the Sunday lunch is out of this world, will be going back for this very soon. The venue is absolutely stunning!

Location: Restaurant is located is a lovely area. An old barn was converted into the restaurant today 20 years back. Restaurant has a lot of character and very pleasant. Service: Excellent service from the staff and minimal delays during delivery of drinks and various food courses. Food: We chose the set menu. The starters were excellent, very tasty and well presented. As a treat we also sampled some bean soup which was very, very good. Main meals of steak (Sirloin, Ribeye) were grilled as requested, however the quality of the steak was a little disappointing. Puddings (Apple pie & Ice cream) were delicious. Value: Value for money for the 3 courses. Would recommend as lovely place for dining out.

Stunning restaurant with fantastic staff and a great atmosphere. I had wood pigeon to start and longhorn beef sirloin which were sensational. Highly recommended! Excellent in every way.

invited to a meal by friends. Lunch at a table for 4. Staff receptive and attentive. Choice of food very attractive and quality superb. Table conversation resulted in us staying beyond the hours set for lunch but the staff never pressurised us in any way..Full marks and commendations.
