Went to The Gate for Mother's Day. We had the roast, and it did not disappoint.There was a lot of good. The service was excellent and the staff were very friendly.I would definitely recommend this place.

Lovely pub food, freshly cooked and reasonable value for the area. The pizzas are always fab and the brunch menu is also great. Service generally okay - can be a bit slower at busier times for food & bar service, but that's understandable. Atmosphere varies, from quiet to buzzier & noisier, depending when you go. Fantastic refurb'd outdoor space for sunny days - so it's often busy summer Fridays after 3-4pm - and has some lovely comfy bench/booth seating in the bar area. Handy for/good place to stop after local walks along or around the River Ver or Bricket Wood Common. No wheelchair/disabled access - small step to both entrances/exits and uneven parking surfaces so the elderly/people who use walking aids may struggle to access.Vegetarian options: Decent range of vegetarian options.

We came for a friend's birthday lunch and what can I say we had a really nice time.The food was delicious, and we had service with a smile and a good handful of banter!My only complaint was the size of the plate for pizza was small, I wanted to put my salad on the plate and some of my fries but that was minor!We'll be back!

Great pub and great food we had a Sunday roast today it was so yummy roast beef with giant homemade Yorkshire puddings. Beef was soft and tender 10/10

This is a great pub that serves the local community and, judging by the welcomes and banter between staff and clientele, very much loved and well respected. It's very friendly (people and dogs) and you can expect a warm welcome and top notch food. Portions are generous and well priced. The pizza is delicious, as is the brunch, fish and chips, cauliflower bites, sweet potato fries... I mean I could go on. I've tried a lot of dishes over time and I've never been disappointed, in either taste nor presentation.They also have a garden and marquee that can be hired for events and they run quiz nights and band nights.This is a popular pub so book ahead especially if you want to chow down a Sunday roast!
