Warning: Anyone using just the postcode to find this place will be directed southbound on the A1(M), advised to stop on the hard shoulder and be directed to jump over the fence. Don't! Warning: Gluten free customers are not welcome. Unlike most restaurants, GF buns are not available for the burgers. Warning: The 'fish' in Cod & chips is mostly batter and skin.

We took our 6 year old granddaughter out for the first time (to a Panto) and wanted to give her lunch first. So we decided to try here and we are really glad we did. It helped to make the day. Everything was really good; we adults had a really nice lunch and the children's menu caters for a wide range of young tastes. Our granddaughter ate well. The atmosphere and surroundings were very pleasant and made us feel welcome. We ate in the restaurant, but diners with dogs are also catered for in the equally pleasant bar area. Car parking is extensive. Booking at busy times is suggested. Saturday lunch time was very busy.

Great food and excellent service from Erika our lovely waitress. The pub is in a nice location and really cosy welcoming atmosphere. I am really fussy with Sunday roast especially with the potatoes and they were spot on and they were not shy with portion size, I had a starter and could not eat all of my main after.

Excellent service from our server. Food very good, very tasty. Only negative was the lack of knowledge behind the bar for offering alternatives to the draft soft drink that wasn't working

Simply amazing food, great ambience too, I have seriously got no complaints. The toilets were a little questionable but everything else about the place covers it up. Kiran was an amazing host she took care of us and made sure we had everything we needed. She has great attention to detail! Will definitely be coming back with family!

We went for Christmas Day lunch and i wish we had gone elsewhere. To start with a positive, the food was fine. On arrival there was a big queue by the door as everyone was waiting to be seated, finally got to our seats and had the 'drinks on arrival menu etc' these didn't turn up until 40 minutes after we had sat down and then only 1 drink arrived.....i could go on and on but that set the tone for the whole lunch. Manager running around with an open computer, no candles lit on tables, no Christmas music just some sort of rock music. What a total let down, i couldn't wait to get away. Will not be back next year. What a shame.

Just had an amazing meal for my dad's 70th. Our waitress Erica was amazing surprising my dad with hand written happy birthday in chocolate with some fruit to go with it. Would recommend the pub and Erica as a waitress to anyone.

Appalling service. Being disabled in a wheelchair, to not be told when booking I had to go around the houses to get to other side of restaurant to sit down for my meal. To be sat outside in rain to then finally be taken round by bin sheds to get into restaurant. All night we had to keep calling waiters over for service. No one even came to see if we were happy with everything. One waitress came over and turned her nose up at us when we asked for menus to order food which took over 15mins. Food came out after drinks that not been delivered before food. Very disappointed. Sorry but I would not recommend

We've visited the Red Lion on several occasions over the years and it goes from good to bad - different managers, staff, ethos etc. When it's bad we avoid it for several months and then try again. Our visit last night was bad, unfortunately. The male waiter (possibly manager, certainly not young) did not place our starters on the table but instead handed the plates to everyone. Table service basics. We were sat in the middle of the room, so he could access all sides. I asked him to place my plate down, after watching him hand the rest of the family their plates. Then the mains came and he did the same - handed a very hot plate to my wife and said "careful it's very hot". It was! Why does he not place plates down? I told him AGAIN to place plates on the table, as it's now a safety issue. As diners, we do not go out with tea towels or oven gloves to safely handle hot plates. No apology, no understanding. Incredibly poor. The food was generally below average, but the 'crispy' fish and chips were definitely undercooked - probably because two of the mains came out 5 minutes before the other two mains, so they rushed it. Again, no apology for the delay. As a M&B shareholder this is the worst example of service I have seen in years. Do better. Much much better.

The service was ok but took 60 minutes for food to arrive and also quite a long time for drinks in what was not a very busy service, when the food arrived it was very average. I had a pizza which was edible, the only meal on the table that looked great was the beef and malbec pie. Had high hopes for the meal as the website and decor looked fantastic. Also seemed like we weren't the only people that received mediocre food, such a shame.

We booked here for our team meal and we had a great experience and we felt very looked after. The festive menu was excellent value for money and I have already booked my team in for next gear

We had a lovely meal here. Very impressed to see Asahi beer available on draft. Food was great and we’ll be excited to return

Looked forward to our traditional Christmas Drinks here for our father who has spent many years frequently this pub over the past 60 years, and something we have done with him for the last few years on Christmas day morning/lunch. So a walk through the woods with the dogs looking forward to a pint, only to be turned away because they were too busy, 12.10pm. Just to mention and probably something he wouldn't have done on his own, but he and his old friends spent over £500 on a meal for old friends a week or two ago and he said then that the service and food was awful, so don't expect any custom back to this once loved pub any time soon...
