Very good takeaway fish and chips; decent value. Friendly service, good-sized portions. Just what you want from a chippie.

What a lovely place! We were attracted by the family meal deal 2 adult and 2 children Fish & Chips for £22 is great value for money. The place was clean and the attendants friendly and even when we paid for an extra ketchup we got more than one sachet which surprised us. The food was perfect, Piping hot fish and crispy batter with fresh potatoes. That’s all you need but my wife still wanted some mushy peas and gravy like when she is up North.

We had a takeaway at the Happy Haddock, The Fish and chips were excellent we had to wait about 15 minutes but it was well worth the wait.

Nice to see a fish and chip shop open on a Monday evening. It was busy but was surprised how quickly we were served our food. Chips nice and fish was fresh and crispy batter. I thought it was good value for money, two cod and one large chips around £17 more than enough for two people.

terrible. lady got my order wrong, failed to tell me yet charged me for the wrong order anyway. on top of that she didn't give me a receipt for my order so i had no idea what order number i was. she gave the people before and after me receipts so i know the printer was working. then i was standing in the shop waiting for over half an hour whilst the customers who ordered before and after me were served. they had called out my order but as it was the wrong order i didn't go to claim it. after a while of waiting a different employee asked me what i had ordered and when i told her, she said the only order that could be mine was the one that had been called out ages ago. i had to take the now-cold food with no refund or new order. poor customer service also the portions are crazy small. 0/10 experience would not recommend

Our go to Fish and Chip shop when we stay in Shanklin. Opted for the senior cod and chips and wasn’t disappointed. Light batter, a thick piece of fish and chips cooked perfectly. It’s a shame that in the local press it’s been reported that it has just shut down until further notice.

Our son is Gluten Free and researched where to get Fish & Chips prior to departing for our holiday. This place advertised Gluten Free (GF) available. Tried to order On Line, as GF needed to phone. After 30 mins with no answer went to the premises. We were told had to Order by phone for GF, explained we tried. The assistant checked with the Fryers and we were told as it was busy there was no chance of GF which was a disappointment to our son. Although I understand the situation your Website should have a warning that in busy times phone order cannot be taken and GF will not be available. We also had an ordinary meal which was ok, but not especially good.

We've been coming to the happy haddock for a lot of years. There are a few negative reviews which worried me, but I wasn't disappointed, I'd ordered online and our food was ready just after I arrived. Really tasty fish and chips, The best you can get. They don't allow you to have plated food inside like the old days which I guess is down to staffing, but at least you can grab a chair now whilst you're orders being cooked!

Wow one busy Fish & Chip shop! Clean shop and toilet. Haddock was really fresh and beautifully cooked. Lovely chips too!Parking available opposite for £1.05 for 30mins.

Ordered just nuggets and chips, was busy but not a big order!Waited 40mins, not enough staff, when phone orders are being taken too, after 40mins, it was realised that my order slip was misplaced so the nuggets had been sat there the whole time, was apologised too, but order thrown into a bag.Don't seem too be able to cope with the volume of orders in shop and taken on the phone.Shame as food tastes good.

The Happy Haddock was recommended by several people, and it didn't disappoint. Good freshly cooked fish and chips, well priced and (as an added bonus) right in front of a large car park.

Had delicious chicken and chips form The Happy Haddock, good portion size and good prices compared to where I live. We got takeaway, not sure I'd have liked to eat in, restaurant is small and you would be sat surrounded by people queuing for their food. Also furniture, particularly chairs were quite tatty looking, not very inviting to sit on. Definitely worth a visit for the food though!

Delicious gluten free meal, neither the fish or the battered sausage, or the chips had grease on them. The best chips I’ve had from a chip shop, well worth the wait. When we arrived were were told it would be about half an hour because 2 of us required gluten free options. I’ve seen people complaining about this, but we were comforted by the fact they were having to set up separate fryers to avoid any cross contamination. It shows they take it seriously. The queue was out of the door all the time we were waiting, which is a positive sign in my opinion. When our meal arrived it was delicious and well worth the wait. We would recommend the happy haddock to anyone, but especially coeliacs visiting the island. Thank you!

Great to get lovely gluten free fish and chips on the Isle of Wight. Do ring in advance so they can get it ready for you and they know you’re coming. One small criticism is it was actually made early and put in a bag before we arrived, so it was slightly soggy, but still delicious. I and my mum have coeliac disease and were happy to get fish and chips.

As anyone who has to be gluten free knows, fish & chips are a rare treat. So when I read about the Happy Haddock, it was a "must try" on our recent holiday in Shanklin. When I asked about gluten free, I should have taken the "it'll be 20-25 minutes" as the hint it (with hindsight) clearly was that they didn't really want to do gluten free. In fact, another customer asked about gf and was told they were out of luck. But given my experience, I think they were the lucky ones. We went back to collect our food after 20 minutes, only to find it had been sitting there for heaven knows how long. We walked back to our holiday property, 10 minutes' walk away, and realised that we were missing one of the fish we had ordered. I phoned to ask for a refund but they said they couldn't do that over the phone. So my husband ate his chips & peas then went back in the car. He was assured that the fish we had was definitely the GF one, and was offered 2 fish as compensation - who on earth would want TWO fish? I would have insisted on a refund, he didn't. On his return, I ate the fish, having already eaten the chips which, if I'm honest, weren't that brilliant anyway, although that could be because of how long they'd been standing in the shop plus the 10 minute walk. What followed was a very uncomfortable, sleepless night & almost 2 days of digestive discomfort; either the fish or the chips were NOT gluten free. I can't prove it, of course, but I know when I've been glutened, and I know (because of when the symptoms started) what the cause was. So our evening meal was disjointed & unhappy, and I had 2 days of my holiday blighted by being glutened. My advice is avoid if you're gluten free, which is a shame as it's one of very few fish & chip shops to offer it.
