We didn’t book and turned up on the off chance we could get a table. We were warmly welcomed and offered table service upstairs. The staff were excellent and our server was particularly helpful and attentive, unfortunately didn’t get her name . The meals were delicious and quite large. We enjoyed it so much we booked to return again during our stay.

No booking and we were warmly welcomed. Lovely table and excellent service. Food and drink came in good time and was really delicious. I wasn’t very adventurous and had the chicken burger - wow what a thing !!

The food here is excellent with good sized portions and well presented. The service was excellent and a good choice of wines and beers to accompany. Will definitely visit again

What an amazing place service and food amazing. The guy who was incharge of the upstairs restaurant couldn't do enough for us. I had the most amazing chicken Kiev I had ever had and my partner had the baked salmon in honey and chilli dressing. All i can say is wow and an amazing old building

A great pub/restaurant, great menu choice and ample sized portions. Seems to be very popular so if going at the height of season book ahead otherwise you'll be disappointed

Good food swift service good selection. Polite pleasant staff. Gets busy in the season consider booking or take pot luck in the garden!

Myself and my partner visited the pub last night and the food was satisfactory. However we returned for a late lunch today where my partner ordered a crab sandwich which was advertised as locally sourced fresh crab. After much anticipation the food arrived. Fresh seafood as we all know should never smell strongly of fish, however this smelt like a tin of cat food and looked completely pre-processed. Eventually a member of staff appeared to clear the table at which point we offered our concern and explained in detail how awful our purchased turned out to be. In which point the young lady promised to speak to the chef, however nobody returned, no explanation offered and on leaving the premises staff were seen to be laughing and joking and having a splendid time and appeared happy to let us vacate. To add insult to injury 2 plates of lunch food and 2 drinks cost in excess of £40 and we feel some what ripped off!!! After all we don’t believe that fresh locally sourced crab should smell like cat food!!! Terrible service will not be returning

Just had the roast beef Sunday dinner. Would highly recommend but don't have too much to eat for breakfast as it is very filling. Sausage meat stuffing and the flash fried veg shavings a nic touch.

Attractive village pub, with friendly staff. The vegan burger was quite nice, and absolutely huge. Some of my family had the vegetarian mushroom stroganoff, which they said was very disappointing (lack of flavour, and more peppers than mushrooms). Would be good to have some other vegan options

The food was really good and the portions were huge. They had high quality live music and the atmosphere was great.Unfortunately, we were served only after 45min. The place was busy, but they could have warned us when we were paying.Since it was getting too late we asked them to remove some garlic bread from our order (not served yet to us in 45min although we expected it as a starter) they refused to refund us and even tried to argue with us that we did not order it as a starter. A real shame that for £6.50 that the bread costs they ruined our evening and have lost 2 customers (and any that asks us for recommendation)

First pub in Shanklin we went in to that had any atmosphere. The others were either old man pubs or really just family restaurants.Great chatty service, three real ales on taps, food coming out looked good but we had already eaten.Only pub I can see is going back to in Shanklin.

A pub with lots of seating both inside and out. The menu had a great deal of interesting dishes. Staff were accommodating as we were able to find a space in a very busy setting.

Usually visit this pub when in Shanklin unfortunately was very disappointed with food this time. Chips were boiling hot but unfortunately middles were raw & rock hard & felt rest of meal not up to usual standard doubt whether we will return again.

Came here with the family one evening but as it was full inside, so sat outside for some drinks. Used to be out go to place when holidaying in Shanklin but on this occasion the tables were left piled high with dirty plates and those that were clear hadn’t been wiped. Needless to say we had our drinks and left.

Having eaten at The Village Inn for the last few years when visiting the Island we always look forward to our last dinner at this quaint little restaurant. We were seated and browsed the menu where we noticed that the fillet steak had been removed and there was only one choice for steak. Meals ordered and we were looking forward to them, however when they arrived the steak and ale pie with a pastry topping left a little to be desired as the topping was too thick and not cooked properly leaving it looking like a little sponge, some meat was cooked where other pieces weren't and the two that were ordered had different gravy, one was runny and watery and the other was a little thicker, the chips were cooked unevenly leaving a little starchy taste. Quiche was ordered and again the base was very thick and not cooked through. Advertised on the menu was Pork Loin Chops and when they arrived they were just loin steaks which had been left on the grill too long causing them to be dry, chewy and not very edible. No member of staff came across to see if our meals were ok or to generally check in, which we had experienced all week in other places that we ate. Most of the meals were left and we left feeling very disappointed.
