Been here a fair few times and I was blown away each time. But tonight's dinner was awful, never like leaving bad reviews but consistency is key that's why we came back, have been put off coming here again.Starters, we're nothing compared to the same starter I had before. Specially for £9.The main was very very standard, mash was bit lumpy, grissile in the sausage & gravey was like water with minimal onion( baring in mind it's onion gravy). Everything just lacked in flavour. The only reason we ate was because we was starving. Was very disappointed.

Came here for a pre Christmas meal with friends…The actual setting is lovely being in a medieval style room..It wasn’t what I would say very busy..there was a big table in the extension area. We were seated by the waitress…there were candles on the table and I would have like to have seen them lit,the room was quite bright and could have been toned down a bit to create the atmosphere.. It was a while before our order was taken.. we ordered starters and wine. When ordering the main course,a lot of the dishes weren’t available, which was a shame….I had to ask for side plates as these were not on the table…my main course was Chicken supreme…now I’ve had this before and it should be in a cream sauce, but I ended up with a dry, leathery piece of chicken in a watery..not even gravy..liquid! but the person who was cooking is inexperienced of how things should be prepared…Also one of the waitresses came to take our dishes away and had obviously had smoked a cigarette as she was quite smelly….to sum up I think the place needs to have someone more experienced over seeing things font of house and chefs who know what they are doing….. prob won’t go back

went in for steak night, it didnt disappoint. simple food done well. nice staff, couldnt fault the service. first pint tasted a bit dodgy (think it was the first one out the barrel) so they quickly changed it for us. steaks were cooked exactly as we wanted them, served with a lovely big mushroom and nice chunky chips. buy one get one free on a thursday too - bonus!

This is a really beautiful pub. Staff were friendly and the burgers we had were delicious (special mention for the home-made chips). Unfortunately they are currently operating a "No Cash" policy, which is a totally undemocratic and dangerous stance to adopt - actively encouraging future digital enslavement. Unfortunately we will not be returning whilst this policy remains, which is a shame for all concerned.

We've been to the Powell on a few occasions this year, while we have been planning our wedding at Chapel House Estate.Every time we've been there we have felt so welcomed that it feels like we're locals, even though we live 100 miles away!We booked out all 6 rooms at the Powell for our wedding guests, who all could not speak highly enough of the comfort and service provided during their stay. One of our family members who is just over 6'7 even said the beds were big enough or him! Which was a joy and surprise for him! We've eaten at the Powell as well on a few occasions and the food is always exceptional! Byron, the owner and Head Chef never makes a bad choice when it comes to food! And we can't wait to visit one of his other pubs and restaurants in the future. We also decided that it would be the perfect venue for our rehearsal dinner the night before, and the team at the Powell couldn't have been more accommodating to us, allowing us to take up their restaurant space for the evening! 30 of our close family and friends all in one place, getting ready to celebrate our marriage together was just wonderful. My only downside to The Powell is that it is so far away!! We both wish that we could be true regulars to this fantastic place!!

I would encourage all musicians who book here to organise their payment method before performing as I was waiting over a week for payment and was lied to on more than one occasion!!!Had to chase the owner across different businesses in Kent to finally receive payment.

Largish venue lacking ambience by being empty- not their fault of course. Staff clearly bored but friendly enough and quite attentive.

They gave us a quiet table in the main dining room. The service was friendly and attentive. The food (sea bass and steak ale pie) was hot and tasty. We'll be back

Great lunch on a Saturday afternoon. Food was very tasty and staff friendly. Live music outside was really good and our group had a lovely afternoon.

Wow, we have just finished the most amazing meal, between 7 of us we had steak, pork belly, fish and chips and kids meals. Incredibly accommodating with fantastic staff and service, nothing was too much trouble and the food was delicious. Desert and coffee was yum ? the decor and

We had eaten a roast dinner here a few months ago and enjoyed what we had other then an issues with cream on a dessert. We decided to come again to have a roast dinner. This time the experience was totally different. My wife's roast pork was so tough as was my beef, roast potatoes were so small all 3 on my plates didn't even equate to one normal size roast potato. I did say as soon as my plate was put down that we need some more potatoes as they were so small. He did bring some more over but subsequently added them to the bill. Cauliflower cheese was cold so I asked for it to be warmed up by the time it returned to the table the rest of the dinner was cold. Also hardly any gravy if you wanted more then the small amount given, you had to pay. We eat out most Sundays travelling some distance and will never return to the Powell. It's also a concern that the Tilers kiln in Canterbury is affiliated in someway. Let's hope the chef is better there than here ?. Mr Ryan

We where looking for somewhere new for our anniversary meal, we picked the powell, the pub is beautiful inside, the staff where lovely and welcoming. We will certainly be there for a drink again in the future. We sat for our meal and sadly this is where the experience went a little down hill. We ordered the "bread whilst you wait" which showed after our starter's. Which we found to be strange as we presumed it was due to come before starter's. The starter's themselves where nice, typical pub grub couldn't moan and we enjoyed them. What we didn't enjoy is our starter plates where taken to the kitchen and in the same walk our mains of 2 rump steaks came out. We are normally not ones to moan but we asked for 2 medium rare steaks. I physically could not even take a bite to try mine it was so rare I asked to send it back due to not being medium rare at all. I waited whilst my partner started. Didn't wait long and the same steak came out, yes granted more done but still not medium rare in the larger meatest part of the steak. I had to leave the majority of the steak. My partner's steak was also not medium rare on arrival. He is a less fussed person than myself ate parts but unfortunately couldn't finish his steak it due to being too rare and this is a man than never leaves food so that says it all. I am one to leave a restaurant and just not come back to a place if i have bad food, but my partner urged me to ask for it to be removed due to how much id left and it ruined our anniversary meal. I did speak to someone and she with out question offered to remove it from the bill before I asked. I did ask the chef's experience and to our surprise we where told he came from the steak house grill over the road. It was a shame, we will be back for pints but will likely be avoiding the food.

People have complained that no cash is taken, however not found an issue. I prefer card payments as more secure and those that moan can easily go elsewhere have found this a very present place

I had the ribeye steak which was £24. I had to leave about £10 on the plate of grisle. Have been there many times but wont be back.
